Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Excuse the generic title, I am programmed to type those words first on all social media- Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google plus, etc. For me, internet in the late 2000's was about discovering humour blogs. We used to have those neighbourhood newspapers complete with satirical takes on our everyday lives. A…
Louis Pereira's perceptive post on not trusting intuition reminded me of something. (https://nicheless.blog/post/disregarding-intuition) A dear friend once told me that when someone close - friend, family, colleague - says to him: "read that book, its just your type of writing," or "think about taking up tango…
I procured a taxi driver poster at 18. It followed me everywhere since then, much like loneliness did with De Niro in the same movie. The poster was perhaps a silent token of my acknowledgement of my struggles with loneliness. Upon graduating, presuming that perhaps loneliness would no longer follow me, I left my…
As is customary for me, I didn't contribute last night. I had a long day and barely even got my daily skateboarding in, which I am skipping tonight due to the weather. Today was crazy at work with so much going on and only so much time to do it in. We got it done though and everyone really busted ass. So part of my…
Soon I'm going to start a new chapter in my life, one that I have been waiting for years: moving to a new country where I will study my dream degree and do what I am most passionate about. This is something I have manifested, talked about and it's actually happening. Honestly, right now, I can't even picture it; I…
Never be stressful about relationships Even when the Grab driver is doing stupid things such as driving a bit to the front when you walk towards it - I don’t know what is his intentions but if I step forward and go forward and fight: it’s a waste of time. I will keep thinking about the negative points and I’ll be…
Remember when paper towel dispensers were exclusively mechanical? They did not require a source of electricity. Fewer moving parts. No motion sensors, no motors, lower cost of manufacturing. Sturdy, reliable, efficient. K.I.S.S. Sometimes, ascending the technological hierarchy results in superior products. Fuel…
A friend shared with me today - "But I was not so productive during the last two days." Her past two days She led a hybrid (in-person, video) workshop, started transcribing guided meditations for a case study on how to engage people in using apps to take care of their mental health more, worked on a blogpost, and…
Last night I finished reading a book I rather enjoyed—You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine by Alexandra Kleeman, which I thought shared traits with Tom McCarthy's Remainder—and this morning I followed Goodreads' call to action within one of their "You finished reading this, what's next?" emails by following the author…
I need to recognize that taking decisions is one of the worst things for me. I like what Shubham said - do things that you can which are in your control and hope for the best. I am finding it very difficult to take a decision. And I think the reason I struggle so much with it is because I: 1. strongly fear the blame…
Hello, self! You're receiving this email because uhm, you subscribed to yourself. I think Louis is onto something here, and I hope it catches on. I just find that welcome message a tad funny. "Subscribe to yourself to receive your messages!" At least I know someone will read it later. Writing anonymously does give…
First draft: 4m50s; final draft: 16m50s Well, first let me say that I have been remote working for about 15 years off and on. Before it was cool and well before folks had the opportunity to do it for their full time job, I had the luxury of working remote from Hawaii, Los Angeles, etc. When I decided to get a full…
i've been thinking endlessly about sex lately either my biological clock is ticking and i'm ovulating and the body is desperate or it's because of the things i've been writing, creatively or i'm writing those things because the clock is ticking i'm writing the story i can't get out of my head the more i write it the…
ENGAGE IN DIALOGUE AND REFLECT Ask your local plants for advice or insight and reflect on how you might learn from their lived experiences. Here are some examples: “a garden doesn’t shout into the void, it stays put and complexifies. It quietly grows” - Max Anton Brewer “A garden can create ‘finished products’ but not…
Teachers always wrote - "Can do better with more effort" on my report card. I was smart but not smart enough to match the truly brilliant ones. I was hard working but could not match the real work horses. The truly elite I observed were the ones who were both work horses and naturally gifted. I worked when I felt it…
The internet has given rise to a new genre of humorous content and I personally love it! The ones I find particularly amusing are around wine and comparing it to life. ''Yoga Class? I thought you said Pour a Glass''. You get the drift. When did wine become such an ubiquitous part of corporate lore? I for one of course…
Two young fish were swimming along. An older fish swimming the other way nods at them and says, “How’s the water?” The two young fish swim on for a bit, then one of them says, “What the hell is water?”[1] According to Alan Kay, thanks to the above exchange, the IQ of each of the two younger fishes increased by 80…
Today is the last day I can do one of those ramblings only 20-somethings do. As the clock strikes midnight, my trial period of adulthood will end and the actual subscription will begin. This is like one of those SMS services that you never signed up for and now there’s no way to unsubscribe. I’ll be 30 tomorrow. About…
Hola!
i've apparently made it a quasi-tradition to start editing a new site or writing a new blog post (or if i'm feeling super ambitious, both!) right on the new year. two years ago it was substack, last year it was buttondown, and now it's omg.lol (and here too, i suppose). last night i entered the new year alone (with my…
You should be asking yourself what’s the goal Else you’ll be working under G And problem with people like him is they never tell you their details They just want what they wanted People working under them won’t feel so appreciated and it’ll be in another words: pain in the ass You walk through IKEA finding yourself…
Now that things are opening up again, I've been thinking of the importance of being in cities that are known in your space. For e.g. Bombay for Media/Finance, Bangalore for Tech, Paris for Fashion. This was really important for career growth before Covid and remote work. Does it still hold now? I would think so. Let's…
i feel energetically a little STUCK do i: - do more yoga - get the package - read - write - eat - watch youtube (this seems almost certainly like a bad idea bc i am so annoyed with booktube people but i am curious about just one little video...) ? i'm hungry. fuck. my body has decided. i guess i'll eat leftover…
Fome…
I've always been fascinated by things that don't belong together in any context. Monkeys and forget-me-nots. Pencils and wheels. Embers and bubbles. They don't, have not, and will not belong together in any plausible context. I suppose the magic lies in bringing unlikely beings together, a trope I absolutely adore. It…
This PPT from Jim Keller is suggesting roughly 30% of Performance increase with a slightly increase in clock speed. We are talking about 23% of IPC increase. If we were to fit this number into Geekbench 6.1, assuming linear scaling of performance with clock speed, you get about 2250 Single Core Performance at 3.5Ghz.…
Sometimes you are just doing the daily job and then thinking what am I doing and what I really want to do?? You are at cross roads just trying to push yourself through and at some point you loose all of it and start to questioning all the things in your life. Then suddenly you look at people who have become great by…
What is the relationship between marginal, radical, or heretical beliefs and one's status or standing in polite society? Status predisposes us to think and believe in certain ideas about the world that reinforce or confirm our location in the hierarchy by virtue of demonstrating to others of equal or higher status…
A professional is someone who is paid to perform a task. A dentist is paid to care for teeth. A teacher is paid to impart an education. There are clearly defined and agreed upon definitions for professions; organizations are established to accredit individuals and revoke those credentials when ethical norms are…
"...a gente quer ter voz ativa, no nosso destino mandar, mas eis que chega a roda viva e carrega o destino pra lá..." Ontem isso ficou bem claro. Mudanças de planos, surpresas nem sempre boas, algumas boas notícias, mudanças na rotina, doenças, notícias de morte. Como dizem, o homem põe e Deus dispõe. E só nos resta…
I wanted to save myself from me. It was a horrifying experience where I was so scared of my life that I wanted to end it because all I could hear myself say was that I am not enough. I started chasing money, power, fame. It then reached a point where I wanted to do everything to prove a point to myself that I am…
Today, my friends surprised me after my exam with an outing to an escape room. There were three of us, and initially, we thought we needed a leader. But once we started, my friend (1) and I couldn’t help but get distracted by all the information we could find. Friend (2) focused on the written clues while friend (1)…
The social web is for ̶c̶o̶r̶p̶o̶r̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ the people. •ᴗ•
As a man, a husband, in my forties, who has moved more than 5 times in my life and had to get a new collection of local friends, one piece of advice I wish I could give myself is: never is an opportunity to "get real" with someone. When folks ask: "how's it going?" the reflex is to keep the response as shallow as…
I think some way or other people are connected. they always stay connected maybe not physically maybe not socially and even not mentally but you just have the instinct in you that you miss this person but somehow you have this gut feeling of what they have been doing or if something serious takes place in their life.…
I’m sitting in a cabin in Port Austin, Michigan, the very tip of the thumb. I woke up to the sounds of the lake, small waves crashing ashore beneath our back porch. Every few seconds, another crash. I could feel my body sway with the tide as it crashed in and rolled out, crashed and rolled, crashed and rolled. My…
Comecei uma nova série. New girl estava na minha lista ha anos. Olhos grandes e azuis.
My clinic has been objectively doing well. Two of my fellow chiefs reached out to me to ask the secret to our success. I attributed our success to: a)Size b)stability c)Culture d)tools For size, we are small and when you look at the performance of the small vs. the large clinics, small wins. For stability, no other…
The working Tom is struggling for air And it's making Dick a Millionaire Harry's watching the news...he's got no clue Just wants to stay away from this worldly zoo...
When I started journaling, I read about all the benefits except one. Journaling is a tool for change. If you journal, you are ready for change. If you’re not a journaler, you need a daily journaling habit to assist you in making a change. Journaling provides four strategies to use when seeking a change. 1. Knowledge…
''We come for the jobs and stay for the weather.'' Famous words by a friend when I could not stop raving about the cool Bangalore evenings in May. Unlike coastal Mumbai, Bangalore which is set in a valley is a basin with pockets of land that collect water, eventually giving rise to lakes. I have almost no working or…
I missed journalling yesterday. But i do want to capture my thoughts. So here goes. I had a conversation with mummy today. I was as usual badgering her about not having confidence, not putting herself out there, etc. But after a while, i realised something that I have always known, but did not register. Mom's problem…
last night was norwegian taco night. e was like "do you guys want to play a game?" i said "yeah" then he made us take a political stances test and he put in my scores and said "it says right here you are a fascist"
“Keep it simple stupid” - Skunk 🦨 Works Lockheed Martin My favourite quote, and something I try to live by
I saw a tweet by Democratic congressman Ritchie Torres accusing dissident journalist Glenn Greenwald of being a "useful idiot" for believing the fake backstory of recently elected Republican congressman George Santos. I know who the first two people are, and I've never heard of the third. I Google his name and the…
