Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
a new platform shows up on HN, so I'm here, just in case I miss out. I'm also on urbit, just in case I miss out. I'm also on urbit because I am a pseudocoder, but I like fp and weirdness. My real field is [humanities], and after five years I'm only beginning to come to terms with liking it, and being able to undertake…
You've read or heard the quote before. Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. - Albert Einstein It's a very famous one thrown around online to the point that's almost becoming a cliché. And yet... That's what many people do daily, myself included some times...…
This 100-day project does not take weekends off. But I'm staying true to my overall writing philosophy: write something every day. In my mother's immortal words, "Keep Saturday Saturday: start late and go slow." I started very late, 2pm, and the 15 minute goal to write anything project-related became 30 and 45 and…
ahhh! today creation is hard. it frustrates me. reoccurring in my mind as an emotion, fades from top to bottom. somewhere in the gradient is the perfect colour that represents the output of my frustration
Sometimes your brain protects you by thinking of the future. Anticipating scenarios. Sometimes your brain protects you by reminding you of all the difficulties in the past that you’ve survived. One of my difficulties is saying goodbye
Imagine my third-grade surprise when I got to Kingston the first time since migrating and found out our driver was named "Drugs." My grandmother arranged the pickup and everyone was saying this name like it was a normal title. Like his name was John or Joe. Except, it was a word that'd been drilled into my head the…
Very happy with the typo pun in the heading. Been trying to onboard close friends to the first social protocol and also been tinkering with figma make to have a mini app by next month. I've been trying to pitch the premise and thesis to people. Some jump in to product feedback mode without even trying the app and some…
My grandfather's 66th death anniversary was a few days ago. My sister and I never met him, but we join our mother in lighting a small lamp in his memory. A recurring thought on death and bereavement came to mind, perhaps a truism for anyone who has experienced deep personal loss. No matter how empathetic a person you…
I have heard (and read) from many people that writing is not so much an activity done for others, it's for oneself. Writing is a way to take something from all that jumbled mess of thoughts on the head and put it down on paper (or online). What happens when we write is that notions we have, that we think we know well,…
Growth is a function of experimentation; when you stop testing new ways of doing things, you stop growing. -Omar Itani I was waiting in a coffee shop when I discovered Itani’s newsletter, “The Optimist.” The above quote jumped out at me. Newly retired, I was in the coffee shop, optimistically experimenting with ways…
Childhood As a child, my weekends meant catching up with friends, enjoying a little extra TV time, or excitedly heading to the supermarket or the movies. For better or worse, my parents didn't push me into extra classes, whether for studies or homework. So, if I didn't have anything to do, I would simply hang out.…
comecei a ouvir leonard cohen. que voz visceral, profunda, né? profound. eu entendo poucas palavras soltas. leio enquanto ouço, então é mais sensorial do que inteligível para mim. the last time I saw you, you look someone older. poxa. hoje tive uma conversa com uma colega de trabalho sobre luto. tudo começou porque um…
running away is easy. you can run away from problems. you can run away from solutions. you can run away from reality. you can run away from delusion. you can run away from love. you can run away from hate. running away from anything is easy because you're afraid of stopping. you're afraid of stopping one day and…
Remember those boxy robots from a couple of decades ago? The ones that spoke to humans and passed witty quips? I remember being so hooked to it that I'd have given an arm for that experience as a kid. Safe to say, we fell rather short in our attempt to make that a reality. We used the language of computers aka logic,…
Question 1: What unactivated dream are you holding onto today from those before you? My name was given to me by my great-grandmother. I was an infant when she held me in her arms for the first and last time, somewhere near the coast of Nigeria. From what my parents told me about the interaction, she looked at me and…
I'm currently reading a highly recommended history of the American Revolution. It's a fairly big book with nearly 800 pages, and I'm about a third through. I'm not going to write much about the book itself, because I plan to write a more detailed review when I finish. I like history and read a lot of history books.…
Maybe there’s more way to go about it. Why I feel anxious when something is not going my way - is because I was not used to acting or behaving this way. Too much of my own comfort zone. So to not feel anxious - be comfortable in feeling uncomfortable. Know that you’ll fail no matter what in the first place and it’s…
I was 13 or 14 when access to the internet became something that lots of 'normal' people could have. I instantly got it, this was a complete shift in accessibility of information AND the ability to participate in 'publishing' and sharing your own creations. It took me 6 years to go from there to building websites,…
Day-4 of my 30 day atomic essay streak. This one's about how I used mindful repetition to teach myself meditation. For my essays so far, the concept of 'Mindful Repetition' has been the only anchor. If you're unfamiliar with it, then please read 'Essay 2: Mindful Repetition, Compounds.' I have been wanting to practice…
You close your eyes it's silent Your mind is filled by a scenario you saw in a documentary. 30 seconds later you're trying to solve a problem. And BOOM! It clicks. You found a solution. You're in love with the new idea. You feel like a genius. I know. It feels good! Is this really the best way to get new ideas? Or…
We as a society have always glorified selflessness. Selfless by definition means : concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own. Whereas selfishness is lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure. We do our jobs because we either like…
Greetings, Today was a fun day, although I didn't get much work done. I had some enjoyable moments and really liked the way I spent my time. I feel that today is a day I will remember, as it marks the beginning of my journey to follow in the footsteps of Dante. I want to enter the "Hell". I was never disciplined or…
1) when striking a conversation - don’t allow negativity 2) it’s a brain training: how to continue the conv Intelligence: is judged not based on the preparation But your current status: what can you come up with on the spot Can you hold the fears The ego and the inferiority You gotta feel very steady and calm To do…
i got a myspace y'all i'm still waiting for that email verification (and am completely LOCKED OUT OF HEAVEN until i get that done) but let me tell you it is a different experience. it's completely VIP, completely next-level. it asks you to identify yourself. and so i'm clicking through the options and each click is…
Pari hey. Let’s be real. Are you feeling bad that Shivani is dating Nelson? And if so, why? I think yes, I am. And maybe it’s because I’m feeling like her liking nelson enough to date him is like her taking his side? This person, whom I carry so much grudge and dislike and disrespect for, my own best friend (Who I was…
Austin Kleon has the right idea. His lesson in Steal Like an Artist applies to more than your creative output. It applies to anything you are trying to build. A website A business A new habit What is the first action you take when you delve into something new? You research. From your research, you pull ideas you can…
I’m not a big fan of competition. For many people, the race to the finish line is irresistible. No matter the game, something drives them to seek nothing less than first place. The idea of first place doesn’t motivate me. Whether I place first or 31st, it feels about the same. I don’t have any particular elation when…
The world is changing too fast. I'm not sure what the turning point was, but I went from thinking of people as old school, to realising that I'm finding it hard to keep up with the times. Social media is a constant reminder of this. A few years ago, I consoled myself that it was ok to stay off the gram as the negative…
I finally jumped onto the startup bandwagon towards the end of 2021 at the time when offices were sending emails to their employees about opening up. It occurred to me then that if I did not do this, then the only choice left to me would be to go back to the corporate world. I decided to start my own corporate world…
I can be very restless and impatient; and sometimes surprise myself with my patience while watching birds. Watching birds going about their chores assiduously pleases me like nothing else. It's fascinating to watch a swallow build its nest drop by drop of mud, a lammergeier soar high with a bone and drop it on a rock…
Know what others have that you don’t have. Don’t focus on what they don’t have. Focus on what will benefit you I want you to - Take accountability of things you didn’t DO Rather than trying to delay using time To do it NOW And not doing it - that’s the difference between success and stagnant Doesn’t matter if you…
Don’t aim to do the easy things. Don’t aim to think the fastest short cuts Think 3 more seconds - work towards the hardest and the best solution always. Remember to not stuck there In solutions Conversations Presenting yourself to others Body language Be fully aware and be putting 100% Say thank you Take initiative…
People don’t like getting sick, but I do. Getting something like the cold has several stages. First, there’s the feeling that it’s coming. Then you’re actually sick—the low point. After a while, you start getting better. It’s the getting better part that makes me like getting sick. Why is it enjoyable, exactly? You…
Today I had a goodbye dinner with my parents at a nice restaurant, before leaving for San Francisco tomorrow. It was the same restaurant where we have been for a goodbye dinner nearly exactly two years ago, before I left for my exchange semester to Taiwan. It felt melancholic to have a similar moment again. And it…
Good sleep - middle of the night, I'd wake up, see the time, relax and continue pleasant deep breathing for what seemed like an hour, then checked to see it was only 10 minutes later. Actually felt good. Work? OK. Lots of filing, meetings & meeting notes, then word of a major "dig up old stuff" project coming up. If…
无形的力量 There’s some power that you can’t be seen Discipline Trust Vision Knowledge All these are not superficial All powerful things are not visible. Not in clubs Not in monetary terms Used to feel so weak or anxious Because I didn’t practice discipline which would make me strong Some people consider music as power…
proust said that the hope of being soothed gives one the courage to suffer. i just read dostoevsky's "white nights" and i gained courage for suffering. i felt as though i confronted suffering right on, hand in hand, with the narrator. i feel like an utterly different person now. // i've hit a stride -- i'm getting…
What are you doing with your time, that makes you feel like it's not being wasted?
Have you ever been pretty drunk but had these fleeting moments of clarity? Like you snap out of the buzz for a few seconds and your mind functions normally? Sometimes you have these moments even when you are not drunk. You could be going on with life as usual, going through the motions. Suddenly you snap out of it.…
I recently saw a photo on LinkedIn of someone I met a few years ago. I felt an unexpected resistance to respond, that moment sparked a deeper thought. At any stage of life, you hold a certain view of yourself and often assume that others see you the same way. I call this a self-image snapshot: a frozen perception of…
First post. Of many I hope. I'm here to support Louis. Because he came up with a great idea. Built it. Marketed it. See a problem, solve a problem. That is how mankind makes progress.
I love synthesizers. I own a couple of vintage ones, and other bits of vintage audio gear. There's something very interesting about how they look and how they are designed, they're like a little time capsule of a bygone era, fascinating for a wide number of reasons. But it's also true that electronic bits of kit tend…
Hoje, num evento super cansativo do trabalho, uma das colegas veio me falar do nada: vamos fazer um encontro regional no sul da Bahia, quer ir? Perguntei onde era. E a resposta me assustou. Exatamente o assentamento que minha avó mora! Apontei isso pra ela, chamei meu chefe e perguntei se poderia ir. Ele disse que sim…
I have always been anxious when presenting, I even get this increase in body temperature when I answer questions in big classes. But, for some reason I have been feeling comfortable when presenting in class, the groups are small and personalized, there is no pressure from teachers, because for them by doing the task…

Today morning I awoke with the dial of time cinched around my waist. As I folded my sheets, made my bed, brushed my teeth, I felt the seconds tick around me and subsequently my throat closed up. Not a good thing to happen, especially, when your mouth is full of toothpaste and a brush. Very absurdly I felt like 15…
How do my daily actions respond this question? What I have done this week: - Worked until late the past weeks. - Spent 2 hours thinking what did we miss? What questions to we need to ask. With these actions I am getting better at: - Managing a project that I will never get credit for - At getting a "good job" "good…
The harder you try, the farther it goes. I've noticed every time I try to coddle or pet my cat, she runs away. The more I try, the farther she runs. She's a cat. I know. But...when I ignore her, she comes asking for pets. The law of reversed effort says when we chase something or someone, it moves away from us. But…
