Are humans supposed to be Selfless?
We as a society have always glorified selflessness. Selfless by definition means : concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own. Whereas selfishness is lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.
We do our jobs because we either like the work or money, in some cases we like both. We choose to take care of our families because we need them. We get into relationships because we want a partner. Are we participating in any kind of charity which doesn't bring us either one of this to us : happiness or fame ?
How many of us are doing any of these things where we don't want them and the other side requires us to do that? Like do the job because the org needs you, well we know we are very replaceable so if we choose to leave today they will replace us with someone else, probably someone better than us tomorrow. If we choose to not take care of our families they will eventually learn to deal with it. Are we getting into a relationship because our partner is seeking companionship and we are not?
We are all being selfish in nearly everything we do, maybe the degree of our personal profit or pleasure varies in every other thing we are doing. But are we really being selfless? Are we doing a single thing in a day which isn't centered around us? I can barely think of anything like that. But we are still making this world a place worth living without really being selfless.
I wonder how the world would turn out if we all become selfless people, aren't we doing just fine with being selfish? I wonder if the world will become a sad place without selfishness.
