Are You Thinking of Starting Something New? Steal an Idea.
Austin Kleon has the right idea.
His lesson in Steal Like an Artist applies to more than your creative output. It applies to anything you are trying to build.
A website
A business
A new habit
What is the first action you take when you delve into something new?
You research. From your research, you pull ideas you can use. You try them on. A tweak here and a tweak there. You make others’ ideas work for you.
Children copy others’ ideas naturally.
After watching a children’s show on TV, my 5-year-old granddaughter wanted to film her version starring her and me. She explained the layout. We recorded a five-minute question-and-answer "show" about pandas on my phone.
As adults, we shouldn’t fear ‘stealing’ a place to start. Starting a journaling habit with prompts is a form of this process.
Any source that sparks your desire to begin should be used.
Steal an idea and get started.
