(Essay 4/30) '27 min' Meditation, anyone ?
Day-4 of my 30 day atomic essay streak.
This one's about how I used mindful repetition to teach myself meditation.
For my essays so far, the concept of 'Mindful Repetition' has been the only anchor.
If you're unfamiliar with it, then please read 'Essay 2: Mindful Repetition, Compounds.'
I have been wanting to practice meditation for the past 1 year now.
This is how it usually went -
I would start with simple breathing routine, continue for few days - then loose steam midway.
In fact I built a streak in 'loosing my streak' with meditation.
Fast forward to present day: I have been meditating '27 min' every day without fail for the 28 days now.
I created a meditation system based on mindful repetition.
This system consists of 36 chants of 'OM' or 'AUM'.
Each chant is a set of 2 full breaths (deep inhalation & exhalation) & 1 full recitation of the word 'AUM'
What do I mean by 'full recitation'?
1 full recitation puts equal emphasis on three sounds: 'O', 'AU, 'MMM'.
Thus each chant is a set of 3 breaths.
On the 3rd breath, I recite OM - an overlap of 3 syllables
Each chant takes 45 sec.
36 chants takes 27 min.
During meditation I keep my eyes closed.
There's no way of checking a clock. Neither, do I set an alarm.
So, how can I be so precise ?
This precision comes from the rhythm of my respiration.
During the course of meditation - each inhalation, exhalation & recitation approximately takes the same time ~15 sec.
This periodicity channels my focus towards my respiration, silencing my mind chatter. This feedbacks positively into my quality of chants.
Thus, an equally spaced repetition of breaths, helped me build a complex & precise meditation routine that lasts exactly 27 min.
