Your Personal Growth Requires Experimentation
Growth is a function of experimentation; when you stop testing new ways of doing things, you stop growing. -Omar Itani
I was waiting in a coffee shop when I discovered Itani’s newsletter, “The Optimist.”
The above quote jumped out at me. Newly retired, I was in the coffee shop, optimistically experimenting with ways to connect to my community. I’m working to make new friends with similar interests. I was in the coffee shop for an art class.
Oddly enough, I wrote in my journal this morning a list of what I was experimenting with.
Books
Recipes
Hobbies
Places to go
Ways to journal
New ways to meet people
Physical and mental exercise
My rule of thumb is to try new adventures more than once.
Depending on what I’m experimenting with, I set a time frame for the experiment before deciding whether I like it. It may be two times, two weeks, two chapters.
Sometimes new has to grow on us.
All of this is about learning and growing as a person, something I hope I will never stop doing.
What about you? How are you trying new ways of doing things?
