Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Well, I asked for a piano keyboard and Santa delivered. Sitting right next to me is a second-to-cheapest-I-could-find 88-key keyboard with a stand and seat. I have been using FlowKey about 30 minutes a night. When I was between eight years old, I took piano lessons. I quite after three months. Learning the piano is…
Two ways to look at a weekend being spent alone - I have nobody around me who wants to spend time with me. I am all alone. OR I get to spend time by myself without having to worry about making plans with others. There needs to be a fine balance between both of these, I guess. Anyhow, definitely feeling sad about being…
Lembre-se que todo minuto dentro da ficção custa tempo da sua vida real. Durma direito. Tome sol pela manhã. Hidrate-se. Faça uma atividade física. Caminhe. Alimente-se melhor. Escolha bem suas companhias. Semeie e cultive bons relacionamentos. Aprecie a lua. Passe mais tempo com quem te aprecia. Saiba lutar pelos…
Today I went to pick up my parents from the airport. First, the parking ticket didn’t go through, and the car behind me started honking. My dad went and shouted at them. Then, I took the wrong road, and we ended up in a bad area of the city. My dad was furious. Every word that came out of his mouth was loud,…
We as a society have always glorified selflessness. Selfless by definition means : concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own. Whereas selfishness is lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure. We do our jobs because we either like…
i used to feel like i have to figure out who i am first and THEN get a persona and THEN write but i've got it all backwards i'm supposed to just write and filter out the persona through the writing like a piece of artwork and it is not exactly myself but an art project just catch the thing and THEN shape it. and not…
My clinic has been objectively doing well. Two of my fellow chiefs reached out to me to ask the secret to our success. I attributed our success to: a)Size b)stability c)Culture d)tools For size, we are small and when you look at the performance of the small vs. the large clinics, small wins. For stability, no other…
Exciting times! I just bought 2 holidays this weekend. In March I'm going to Cyprus for one week with my two older boys. D won't be joining us - She will've just changed her job and -although they say she can work anywhere she wants- she doesn't want to test them on this yet. But I need a week in the sun every Feb/…
Oh my god! This was another key insight that I was missing my entire life. I have at various times considered myself a dark, brooding loner, a deep man of mystery, or too wounded to let someone in to my world. Introvertive Anhedonia makes a better case for an explanation of my relationship issues. The short definition…
The environment can be sick, the music can be sick, every single detail is sick, But if the people are not right everything can be off
Something remarkable had happened. I took that for granted, as so often happens inside a dream, having already accepted the events — whatever they’d been. The shape of society itself had changed, The Events having shaken a greater sense of our collective responsibilities into us. Well, most of us. One such…
I'm watching a YouTube video called Network: The World is a Corporation. It's a single scene from one of my favorite movies, Network, written by Paddy Chayefsky and directed by Sidney Lumet. I'm not a big rewatch person, but I like to quote and reference this scene a lot to people, and since my memory isn't as sharp…
and we are standing there match in each hand in a room full of petrol pretending not to notice the air shimmering in a quiet resonance something we’ve seen before fairy-tale tangled in ‘what ifs’ scared of bruising whilst knowing exactly one wrong move and the place is ashes and dust
Life, it seems, will fade away Drifting further, every day Getting lost within myself Nothing matters, no one else. While the rest of the old Metallica banger Fade to Black doesn't really apply to this post, I wanted to borrow generously from the past kings to start it. In a remote hyperconnected world, it is easy to…
There is a way to do it better If something is wrong Fix it - don’t let it gone by and just let it cruise - take in charge of the ship And find a way to guide yourself to the correct path. Apply discipline - and make sure that you’re doing the right one As small as - or should I say ESPECIALLY the small details. (Like…
There's a famous story of a group of blind men who wanted to know what an elephant was like. These men had heard a lot about this majestic creature, so they travelled together to the king's palace to visit an elephant. Since none of them could see, each man had to use his sense of touch to feel what an elephant was…
As we grow older, we experience the pressure to enjoy ourselves. Unlike family, peer, or societal pressure, this one stems from the self-realisation of new preferences. For the longest time, you didn't have preferences. Specifically in India, the activities you'll indulge in are decided for you. You enjoy those…
Since 2020, I had been on a steady tech detox, a la Cal Newport. I switchd to DuckDuckGo, I traded my android for a feature phone, I started writing notes by hand. And in cursive! It was beautiful, I was present. No "Power of Now" needed. I could take my kids to the playground and be perfectly happy with my face in…
it would have been cool. me & you, the chance at romance. i think you would like it. i wish -- just let me know.
"What types of jobs are you looking for?" It was an obvious, straightforward question. But to be honest, I didn't really have an answer. I was in business school. I know. I know. (I'll talk more about the pros and cons of business school later.) There is a glut of information about startups. Search twitter, tech news…
Coming from a small village, it was pretty uncommon to hear people discuss things like wealth, assets, capital etc growing up. It was very strange and unsettling when I met teens from Mumbai. Many of them seemed miles ahead in their business vocabulary and had a strong sense of business more than most of the "biz men"…
The day your parents come Is the day you test your emotional intelligence Remember it’s not always what you want It’s doing what THEY WANT Give it all up and relax for these 3 days 说话温柔体贴… ———— You used to always feeling not confident Is the result of your 4 years experience in uni You have your decision to choose You…
We are chaining ourselves to knowledge representation that were necessary, not because they served us optimally, but because of physical constrains in out environment that made them necessary. Why do we still stick with serialised and sequential learning if they are mostly misaligned with human learning? Tradition is…
it's better to spend time alone than to be bored by people. after the norwegians left, i haven't really enjoyed hanging out with other people our age because all they want to talk about is BOAT PROJECTS and i sit there thinking about how they're wasting my time and how i wish i could go read and write but when you're…
This morning I read a timely article by one of my favorite writers and thinkers, Derek Thompson (@DKThomp on Twitter). It was titled, "Your Career Is Just One-Eighth of Your Life" and it got me thinking (as his writing and podcasts usually do). I spend a lot... A LOT... of time thinking about this one-eighth of my…
Now in the early years of my fourth decade as an adult, am trying to determine what will end up being my go to cocktail in this decade. Wine has and will always remain my trusted and loyal companion at home. Beer will be that calm, peaceful and silent friend walking by my side. But a cocktail will take on a…
I don't think anyone except Germans uses this English saying. It basically means “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it“. And I think that is complete bullshit in todays dynamic world. Sticking to established methods without seeking improvements is not neutral, it is destructive. But too many people think like that,…
i'm reading the kāma sūtra and it is not a great book in the sense that if you were to do what it says to do, you will be further from the goals it promises you'd achieve. (namely, that of taking general pleasure in life) but the kāma sūtra is great as a glimpse into the lives of wealthy indians of an ancient past if…
It occurred to me then that Kiwi is the Annabel to Kippy’s Lolita. And truly I don’t think I ever recovered from her death. This whole meme is getting out of hand, this cometragedy of beloved animal soulmates
For the past few years, I spend my time working in an ecosystem where colleagues, clients, and donors share concern to bring impactful solutions to improve the life of people who are often excluded socially and economically. We talk about low income segment who earn less, who rely on cash because she/he does not have…
What do we say to the god of procrastination? Not today.
Recently, the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi lambasted what he called 'revdi' culture at a public event. He was referring to the political practice of enticing voters - especially the poorer and lesser educated variety - with material goods in exchange for votes (revdi refers to a food item). For anyone who is…
The dark elf is a political type. He (and it's almost always a he) is a member of the privileged class, either by birth or by wits. All the opportunities for success were made available to him. The social graces, mannerisms, and noble lies of the elite were inculcated in him from a young age. All of the social…
Call me A.S.J. Just turned 16. Dont expect some Shakespeare words in my blog.I mostly use this like a digital diary when i have a shitty day or im going through smth. My interest -linkin park -cry of fear -afraid of monsters -nu-metal -playing musical instrument (guitar & piano) -video games -midnight -silence -music…
more than words, silence speaks harder. more than being full, emptiness makes things clear. more than always being occupied, space makes things happen. being present everywhere can make you empty from inside, people need space to fill themselves up and come back with an better understanding of who they are. Charles…
My mom has found a unique way of pranking me. She'll throw a random but believable assertion related to my life (or so I think). Consequently, my inquisitive trait kicks in, trying to trace the reasons and origins of it. The ordeal ends by her revealing the farce behind her statement and how it revealed my deep-rooted…
It snowed today. During the school year, snow means the possibility of a snow day or at least a late start. Snow falls so softly, blanketing the ground in silence. My desire to stay inside to enjoy the scenery from the shelter of a warm home is strong. If I were many years younger I would want to run out to be the…
After all this time,I still keep falling for you.
This is not a post where I tell you that getting bored is good and all. But to see why actually am I getting bored! I just said that I've been working as an Intern for the past 9 months, and yet when my room mate is not around, it seems that I don't have anything to do apart from work. My room mate does not make a…
Today has been another day of just constant “Shivani-nelson” static. On top of that, I saw a slack ping from Varun (top boss) on a thread, where he directly addressed me. Here’s me noting down how my body reacted to it; 1. Immediate heart rate increase 2. Sinking feeling in my stomach 3. Thoughts in my mind about -…
Humans have a tendency to over-imitate and copy people of high status, in order to gain prestige, knowledge and skills. This is why people often imitate the habits of successful people, such as the morning routine they follow. However, it is wise to be cautious before blindly imitating others, as success takes more…
I'm not saying I've discovered the secret to happiness, but daily fiber supplements and a bidet is working out great for me.
On days like these I normally switch from "work mode" to "chill mode" and just relax, take it easy, and don't worry if I'm being productive or wasting time. But today, it was a little different because I had to wake up early and go out to run some errands. That made it more likely to go back, get breakfast, and be…
On a recent trip with my friends, I asked them if they were ok telling me how much they were worth i.e. how much money they had in the bank. During the trip, I had skirted around the question by asking what their "number" was. But that evening, I just asked if they'd be ok telling me. I've been thinking a lot about…
To be synthetic is to recognize redundant patterns in information. Familiarity arises when these patterns align with what we already know, while differences emerge when they don’t. Synthesis is about compressing this new information into a rule or simplified understanding, a process that is inherently personal. What…
Most people want to be free. But being free is hard. The moment you have FREEDOM, there will be: - Nobody to blame, but YOU. - Nobody responsible for anything, but YOU. It's hard. That's why the majority of us trade freedom for safety and certainty.
As is customary for me, I didn't contribute last night. I had a long day and barely even got my daily skateboarding in, which I am skipping tonight due to the weather. Today was crazy at work with so much going on and only so much time to do it in. We got it done though and everyone really busted ass. So part of my…
