"never change a running system"
I don't think anyone except Germans uses this English saying. It basically means “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it“.
And I think that is complete bullshit in todays dynamic world.
Sticking to established methods without seeking improvements is not neutral, it is destructive. But too many people think like that, because it is just way more comfortable than embracing change.
A couple of days ago, I had a big photography job and was about to fall into the "never change a running system" trap when sorting and editing the photos. After a few minutes in my old and repetitive workflows, I overcame the comfort of the familiar and started looking for new ways and tools to approach this task. I quickly stumbled upon new AI-enhanced software, took some time to understand it, and saved roughly 90% of the work time while achieving a similar, if not better, result.
When I suggested this software to a friend who runs a media production company, his response was something along the lines of "never change a running system."
If you don't adapt, sooner or later you are gone.
Embracing change is vital.
