I'm watching a YouTube video called Network: The World is a Corporation. It's a single scene from one of my favorite movies, Network, written by Paddy Chayefsky and directed by Sidney Lumet. I'm not a big rewatch person, but I like to quote and reference this scene a lot to people, and since my memory isn't as sharp as it used to be in my twenties I sometimes get the urge to look at the clip just in case I remember some things incorrectly.
It's a really great piece of cinema by the way, some turn of phrases of the thunderous speech are seared into my mind, like the sharp utterance of the word "DuPont" which I find it so memorable here for some reason.
Technology is really amazing that way. I don't have to mess around too much to being instantly thrown into that iconic conference room, YouTube is literally at my fingertips 24/7.
But today something else happened: I glanced at the comments. Some, maybe most even, are from enthusiasts like me, lovers of this weird little corner of the internet. But some others are, well, not so appreciative, or confused even.
Like clearly some people are commenting here having never watched the film in its entirety, or not even knowing this is part of an award winning classic movie.
There's people making jokes about some outdated references, people requiring an explanation about the title of the movie, generally making all sorts of inane comments that would be answered by just watching the rest of it.
For a moment I found this quite depressing. But then I closed the app and got over myself.
