Nasal Convention
My mom has found a unique way of pranking me. She'll throw a random but believable assertion related to my life (or so I think). Consequently, my inquisitive trait kicks in, trying to trace the reasons and origins of it. The ordeal ends by her revealing the farce behind her statement and how it revealed my deep-rooted sense of insecurities while I was defending myself. She calls it a prank, I call it taking advantage of my trust.
Naturally, it takes a toll on my self-esteem. I could feel the storm of emotions rising within me, desperately waiting for an outlet. The obvious things for me to do is start sketching. Not instantly, only when I get reminded of it during day- dreaming several years after.
Day dreaming can happen anytime. This time it happened in the middle of my International Environmental Law class. My professor was making a compelling case of Basel Convention, being a stalwart amongst international environmental conventions. It was at this moment that I decided to let my emotions reflect on the back of my notebook.
I took the pen I borrowed from one of my friends and I started dancing on the canvas. I took the opportunity to produce the emotion I felt exactly the moment (plural) when I was at the receiving end of my lovely mom's wretched pranks.
Those were the best five minutes I could have ever spent during the class. I got engrossed and shamelessly stared at my work for another five minutes before I clicked it's pictures.
I wanted my friend, who I borrowed the pen from, to be the first person witnessing the masterpiece. With the excited walk, I approached her. She saw it and immediately said "Haha, Nasal Convention".
I am never borrowing pen from her again.
