There's a famous story of a group of blind men who wanted to know what an elephant was like.
These men had heard a lot about this majestic creature, so they travelled together to the king's palace to visit an elephant. Since none of them could see, each man had to use his sense of touch to feel what an elephant was like.
One man touched the side of the elephant and thought that an elephant was broad and strong like a wall. Another man touched the ears of the elephant and thought that an elephant was like a fan. Another touched the elephant's trunk and came back thinking an elephant was similar to a snake. Another man touched the elephant's tail and concluded that an elephant was just like a rope.
When they finally sat around to discuss their firsthand experience of the elephant, they broke into a verbal spat. Every man's experience was quite different from the other man, but every man was completely sure of his idea of what an elephant looks like - as he had experienced it himself. The blind men were correct in their own right, and none of them had the full picture.
In a sense, this blog is also like one of those blind men. It offers an insight into law firm life, but is based on the personal experience of one person. Some may vehemently disagree with what is written here, but that's alright. Just because others did not experience it - that doesn't make it untrue. Also, just because I experienced it - does not mean you will experience it too.
In the end, we are all blind men trying to grasp onto our own realities in this hyper-connected world.
