boring young people

it's better to spend time alone than to be bored by people.

after the norwegians left, i haven't really enjoyed hanging out with other people our age because all they want to talk about is BOAT PROJECTS

and i sit there thinking about how they're wasting my time and how i wish i could go read and write but when you're such a small group it's hard to excuse yourself (parties are much better in that sense; parties are actually great when they're not loud. i can't stand having to shout over people; but parties in the spring or summer, outside, by the pool, NO MUSIC and tons of interesting people you don't know...are just wonderful; in general i think it is an assault on the ears and mind to blast music at uncomfortable volumes and to treat music as a background thing. music needs to be listened to the way books are read: with full concentration)

the older people are much more interesting i think. they talk about philosophy. even in a loud bar with music played at an uncomfortable volume, they shout philosophy into your face. it's wonderful.
