Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Design has become an "ism." A philosophy. A doctrine built on a foundation of frustrations, endless debates, and subjective truths. It’s a never-ending story - one where we never quite agree, because, frankly, there are too many perspectives on what Design actually is. We dissect it, redefine it, gatekeep it, stretch…
when you transfer money from one account to another account, in the memo/notes section write a self-affirmation i wrote: "i am full of love" next time i could say something like: "i have everything i need to be peak happy" which is true i do have everything i need all i need is my imagination and fresh air and…
My PKM includes not only fingertips to keyboard and screen to type but also fingers around a pen or pencil to write on paper. (Yes, I use Rocketbook. No, I don't have a tablet - yet.) Listening. When a prompt in LYT Workshop 9 was posted to share memorable podcasts, I immediately thought of and shared - this podcast…
Last night I finished reading a book I rather enjoyed—You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine by Alexandra Kleeman, which I thought shared traits with Tom McCarthy's Remainder—and this morning I followed Goodreads' call to action within one of their "You finished reading this, what's next?" emails by following the author…
Knowledge sets us free, art sets us free. A great library is freedom. -Ursula Guin. Public libraries are where we witness the entirety of human existence. The youngest members create their imaginations while the oldest are constantly trying to understand the present and future. The middle aged are upskilling…
Yesterday we started a road trip around Scotland. Our search for lunch was constrained by the lack of variety. Fish & chips, fish & chips ... oh, and another fish & chips shop. Hungry and without alternatives, we settled for a meal that was pricey, unappetizing, and unhealthy. Why is such food prevalent and who…
We hadn't formally launched Trilegal yet when my friend Vinay, who was with a law firm in London, called. It was early March 2000. Him: "Have you guys opened for business yet?" Me: "Why do you ask?" Him: "Because I have a deal for you." Me, struggling to hide excitement: "Well yes, then we're open." This was a…
it's been a while. i'm again reminded of the power of seasons as I come up for air after another whirlwind summer. time to slow down, reflect, and reset. I love this phase, like I loved the last. but winter in particular always feels a bit like mourning. removing another layer of habits, insecurities, outdated beliefs…
My parents video call me everyday. It could sound like I am complaining but that's not it. I like that they do. Most days I do pick up the call regardless of if I am out, at a party or at a friend's place. Usually, the conversation goes as follows- where are you (when I'm out) did you eat? what's happening? what else…
At times not doing anything even though you have a lot on your plate and too much in your mind going on is actually relaxing. I have been in that phase for the last three days and i feel lighter a lot. Too many thoughts passed through the mind and they did not bother me much. Often we are told don't take life too…
Journaling has many benefits. One benefit you may not hear others talk about as much is increased productivity. My morning journaling session prepares me for a productive day. I use these three strategies. 1. Set priorities. I write at least one sentence for each priority task. I simply write what I plan to do. I may…
ironic isn't it? the things we run from loom near like shadows, inescapable contorted and twisted into new forms sometimes even be mistaken for something new entirely no use in trying to run - instead delaying the inevitable power drawn from denial of its existence a brief respite, just enough to get by what's the…
I don't really know what to write about. I just like the look and feel of this thing, and rather than thinking about what my first post here should be, I figured I'd rather just write whatever comes to mind. Even if it's the weaksauce you're currently reading. This is a pretty cool UX though, as I'm typing this I like…
Autonomy and decision-making as an adult really does seem like a simple concept that I should have in my pocket by now. Somehow still, this practice has continued to elude me. Until now… It’s so strange and exciting to finally accept that I can move forward in such a decision as lifelong marriage commitment. And…
after coming back from indonesia, and having thoroughly enjoyed the people there, i feel WEIRDLY more /japanese/ than ever (having no japanese heritage whatsoever) what i mean is that the "weird" desires arising in the hearts of a people who have been increasingly burdened by capitalistic demand, materialistic…
Tip-toeing that razor-etched line between minimalism and dysthymia.
Yes, I have a sweet tooth. I love me some sweets: pastries, candy, cakes, cookies… you name it, I love it. But there has been no better sweetener in life than community. Combining community with all aspects of my life has provided that extra 🤌 But how? I’m currently learning how to DJ right now, and sure, learning…
This page serves as my personal digital diary. Due to my overly active mind and severe ADHD, I often forget thoughts that never even make it to my consciousness. It's as if I've thought of everything, but in reality, I'm not thinking at all. The topics covered will range from the silliest reasons to serious thoughts…
For years I've struggled with a mild internal conflict. Maybe like me, you see yourself as someone who is drawn to minimalism. There is something so appealing about clean lines, uncluttered spaces, and carefully selected objets de art. But then I turn and look at my own abode and realize that my heart is just not here…
I received a text saying, "Hey, Keshav! I had spoken to you about an internship at Goodread", a couple of days back. On the out-front, it seems correct, but there's one massive problem here. To set the context: I work at a company called Goodera. I had initially reached out to the person and progressed through the…
There’s a quick way to find your talent short cut. Do the actual hard work not the societal pressure (means thinking hard and giving high standards to yourself) Once you got there you’ll have so many things you can do - and you have that “do it now mentality” same as “enjoy it now not later” Do more and reap the…
Spoilers ahead! Joy/Jobu, a character I resonated with after a long time. The anguish, lost mind, unheard sobs, hopeless eyes and whatever she was made of. I was feeling nothing like her. I felt it when she said "If Nothing Matters, Then All The Pain And Guilt You Feel For Making Nothing Of Your Life Goes Away." The…
Sometimes, an urge suddenly pops into your head - you feel the need to visit a website, check your Reddit feed, browse promotions in an online store, or look up stock values. These impulses can disrupt your deep work session and break your flow. Resisting this recurring, nagging urge can be challenging. The good news…
Push for more! There’s always something else to study/that you didn’t know Action Action will lead to more things in the future Act first align yourself to that actions Do with a goal study is for you to be more ready be more powerful save time to study but when you study you need to study well Focus will let you…
Unstructured work is under appreciated. It's the kind of work you do when there are unknown unknowns. Or when you're searching for a solution that might exist, but you don't know where to look. Or the work you do in pursuit of perfection, which can never be recognised, except in its absence. The process can be…
Alright, guess the calendar block did not help at all. Let me not bore you with the details of inconsistency. But one of the reason why I start with this is because all around me in social media, everyone seemingly makes habit building a really easy task to achieve. I really want to put my genuine self of struggling…
See that? That’s a sticker on that glass door you’re about to open. It says PULL. But here’s the thing, the sticker is on the other side of the door. It’s an instruction on opening the door, but it’s not for you. For your eyes it’s backwards, like a mirrored version of the word, but your brain still reads the word…
A golgappa is an emotion. For most of us who have grown up in India, regardless of which part, it is symbolic of acceptance and surrender. Surrendering to the magic of the vendor who assembles the puri and dunks it in the spiced water before handing it over to you. Magic, because we really don't know what to expect.…
Over the years, my relationship with my parents has been very superficial. They haven't known much about my life beyond the most general aspects because I wasn't really allowed to date, go out with friends, or try sports like surfing or snowboarding. So, I had to keep things low-key. Now that they’ve realized I can…
I remember I started writing blog posts about 13 years ago, during my gap year when I was preparing for my university entrance exam, kind of like the SAT. But when one of my college friends found my blog, I suddenly felt so embarrassed that someone I knew had read it. I ended up deleting the whole thing. At the time I…
Ontem eu tive terapia.
Good intentions. Plans and goals. Expectations. Reality. The struggle for me is accepting the intentions I have as good enough. I aim to be a good person, to be kind, to remain open, to be healthy and active. But so often, intention is met with opposition. Whether it’s internal or external, what I wish to do gets…
Back in India, I read an article called "Travel is no cure for the mind" [https://moretothat.com/travel-is-no-cure-for-the-mind/]. It illustrated how changing your surroundings is not the answer to existential angst or the pursuit of joy and fulfillment in life. And while the article covered sufficient ground…
Today I had an inspiring call with Alex West, a solopreneur that runs a $600K/year automated lead generation business. He has been very outspoken about his journey over the last few years, and done so in an extremely authentic und reflective way. In our conversation, he mentioned daily writing as the reason for this…
This is the deal. There are no "one size fits all" solutions in reality. You can see this out there in different realms. Be it the product creation, the medical, online course, financial and so on. It's like that meme of the different characters along the bell curve. Which also relates quite well with the graph of…
Hello, As a kid I spent many hours gaming and one of my favorite genre was "RPG" (Role Playing) because these game were open ended and played out based on the choices that the player makes based on internal & external considerations. The effects of these choices are consequential. Everything in a good RPG effects the…
It’s kinda a different feeling living without social media. It wouldn’t be this way if I hadn’t tried it for years. All my adult life was spent before a screen waiting for approval. Now I just sit in front of it.
being the nice guy is not going to get you anything. you think you are doing people good but no you are just killing yourself bit by bit. people will go on doing what they want to do. hurt you. worse, not even care about you. people are just trauma. you got to be an asshole to get what you want. put your own needs…
Anytime I come across a person who lives based on streaks of achievement, I feel concerned. I've noticed this the most with regard to fitness. Gym rats is a commonly used word to highlight an individual's dogged resolve towards exercising. It is quite funny to me that it's called gym rats. I immediately think about…
It’s Saturday. I should be grading homework and unit assignments. I have a master’s portfolio proposal to write (separate, apparently, from the actual master's thesis I wrote last semester). I have grad school homework to do. Instead, I’m on the couch. My youngest child has his legs draped over mine; he’ll follow me…
you once told me that i looked beautiful. what choice did i have but to manifest your vision? you were my beholder i saw you seeing me
Tomorrow the New York marathon of 2022 is on. Me and my wife are joining 50 000 other runners in NYC in the starting line. Everywhere you look tonight you’ll find runners preparing for tomorrow. Did I get the right energy? Have I prepared my breakfast right? How much time do I need for my morning routine to make it to…
Have a different flavour One room has mismatched socks Another, discarded earrings And yet another a space on a pillow. The kitchen is silent too Empty vessels that make no sound Wine and water turned to stains On spoons and rims of glasses. And the flowers on the balcony Nod silently And bloom regardless. December…
16g of coffee ground at a setting of 1/30. 240g of water heated to 95 degrees. Bloom the coffee with 30g of water and leave it for 35 seconds. Then pour the remaining 210g of water in slow concentric circles. That's my daily routine to prepare my first cup of coffee upon waking. As long as I stick to light or medium…
I love travelling by the Metro. I know Bangalore's Metro isn't as tentacled as Delhi's or as old as the tube (of London) - but by god, I adore the Metro. And this isn't even due to its ridiculous affordability. Stepping inside, you can almost taste the bustle of people hopping from home to work. When i see men and…
My office consists of cubicles for associates and cabins for the partners. The partners take up the perimeter of the office, having glass walls with blinds - allowing them to observe us and prevent us from observing them. A subliminal show of their power over us. All in all, very panoptican and something I ruminate…
