Bzz Bzz
My office consists of cubicles for associates and cabins for the partners. The partners take up the perimeter of the office, having glass walls with blinds - allowing them to observe us and prevent us from observing them. A subliminal show of their power over us. All in all, very panoptican and something I ruminate over about regularly.
They decide if we stay past 7pm for a call, they decide whether our sickness if worth not attending work for and so. Other small things that rub it in your nose that you're a faceless worker bee is the security guarding noting down your IN and OUT hours, or the fact that the partners have a roomy bathroom of their own, while we have to share it among all the associates and the adjacent company's office.
A truly depressing idea that in exchange for your income you give up control of your own life. But fret not reader, of late, I've been trying to ignore or get over it.
Okay perhaps a little bit of fret is warranted. I seem to have taken a few steps back when I realized that the only places in the office with windows, to the outside, are the partner's cabins. It's not enough that you're scrutinized, but you're not even deserving of looking outside - that privilege requires 10 years of elbow grease. 10 years of being a replaceable cog, 10 years of being a worker bee. Maybe I'd rather be a worker bee - they do after all, have a brilliantly brief lifespan of 30 days.
