January silences
Have a different flavour
One room has mismatched socks
Another, discarded earrings
And yet another a space on a pillow.
The kitchen is silent too
Empty vessels that make no sound
Wine and water turned to stains
On spoons and rims of glasses.
And the flowers on the balcony
Nod silently
And bloom regardless.
December was a daily celebration
Lives connecting and reconnecting
Weaving a warm safety net
To hold memories
Hanging now in January silences.
