Oh my Goodread!
I received a text saying, "Hey, Keshav! I had spoken to you about an internship at Goodread", a couple of days back. On the out-front, it seems correct, but there's one massive problem here.
To set the context: I work at a company called Goodera. I had initially reached out to the person and progressed through the first video interview with her. She stepped out of the process for personal reasons, and I recommended that she reapply when convenient. She did that, and indeed, there's nothing wrong with it.
But here's the kicker, how can she get the company name wrong?
On her end: There could have only been 3 scenarios
- It was an unknowing typo
- She must've mixed up the two companies
- Auto-correct
Let's assume that it was a genuine error on her end, but isn't that the fundamental thing you don't get wrong? Especially when you have had a decent exposure to the interview process?
I am not trying to rant at her expense, but I believe it is basic etiquette when it comes to job searches & internships.
It could also be a prevalent situation folks find themselves in, and I am over-reacting. Either way, the experience wasn't ideal, and I think one should check the text they send out, especially in a professional setting.
PS: Our team's hiring was done by then, but I forwarded her email to other functions in our company. I hope the best for her.
