Leveraging Cravings
Sometimes, an urge suddenly pops into your head - you feel the need to visit a website, check your Reddit feed, browse promotions in an online store, or look up stock values. These impulses can disrupt your deep work session and break your flow.
Resisting this recurring, nagging urge can be challenging.
The good news is that you don’t just have to fight it—you can actually leverage it!
One habit that works well for me is keeping a list of these cravings. Whenever one pops into my head during a work session, I simply jot it down in a special list, which I keep alongside my other to-do lists or in task organizer.
It no longer fixates on that urge because it knows there’s a promise:
💡 “First, we focus. Then, we reward.”
Suddenly, my brain is more eager than ever to power through the task—because it knows a well-earned dopamine hit is waiting on the other side. Instead of distractions breaking my flow, they motivate me to finish strong.
🚀 Try it. Take control of your impulses and make them work for you. Turn distractions into drive, and let them push you toward deeper focus, greater productivity, and the satisfaction of rewarding yourself on your own terms.
