Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
The lenses we use to view events in our lives can greatly affect our perception of those events. I'm sure you've seen pictures of galaxies, with their magnificent colors and shapes. The naked eye will only see a black space because it is only capable of seeing visible light. But with the right set of tools, you can…
I wake up at 6:47 AM and the first thought is: I'm not going to smoke today. The second thought, three minutes later while I'm already on the balcony with a cigarette between my fingers, is: Well, fuck. It's not like I forgot. I remember saying it yesterday—actually saying it out loud to myself while brushing my…
Going out with friends that have the same hobbies as you is just another level, today we went to the museum because we had a sketching assignment. It felt so cute that we were all walking with our sketch pads and pencils and sitting on the floors of the museum to appreciate artworks. I'm actually studying what I love…
Is there anything worse than feeling alone? To believe you are worthless. To envy those who aren't alone. To regret your decisions. To question your very existence. To feel your life passing, surrounded by love and laughter, and yet so far away from achieving it. To write and hope the pain dulls. To invite sleep with…
'People don't quit companies, they quit managers'. Just like the way companies do background checks, you also need to do background checks on managers/teams/companies. Oftentimes we don't put in the effort for two reasons - 1) lack of choice, we need this job 2) we don't even know how to do it. Glassdoor reviews can…
Hola querido lector, lectora.
i'm getting in a cycle of - being afraid of running out of books that i'll consider a "favorite" book or a "five-star read" - frantically searching for books while i'm still reading - constantly reading like 4 books at the same time because i don't want my library loan to run out even tho i could easily renew a loan -…
The anti-hustle people will tell you that if you're procrastinating on something, it doesn't mean you're a lazy good-for-nothing loser. It means your subconscious is sending you an important message. At the time of writing, I've just spent 5 hours pointedly not doing the real-life paid work that has been stressing me…
I got in to a discussion with a friend about some bill that was signed into law in Florida that, depending on your political orientation, either (a) made it illegal to talk about being gay in classrooms, insinuating that anyone who supported it is a homophobic bigot, or (b) was an attempt by concerned parents and…
The world announces itself loudly. It never asks for permission. It arrives as friction, metal against rail, voices colliding, engines coughing smoke into the afternoon. People move with purpose or pretend to. Everyone is going somewhere. Everyone is late. Noise becomes the proof of existence. I stand inside it and…
The problem with being an expert on Twitter is that there's no obligation to back your claims up with any real world experience. The fact that you can regurgitate other peoples ideas with little to no consequence means that, over time, people on twitter drift towards more talk, and less walk. I can't believe I'm…
A friend once told me that her husband hates the phrase ‘diversity in a work place’. I was hooked. No one in today’s woke culture says this openly. Especially a man. This sounds wrong. She told me how hard working he is and feels let down when less deserving women get priority in promotion. This made me think. How do…
Being a second-year law student, it is my personal goal that I need to develop my legal writing. This exercise will not only help me perform better in law school (I hope), but also give me an idea of what my strengths and interests are, thus giving me an insight into which path to choose after completing law school. I…
2023 - a new year. A new year where people will make and, inevitably, break new year resolutions. Like last year. I resolve to begin my writing journey…with consistency. I prefer short form - short and succinct. This is my aim. What will I be writing about? People say specificity wins. Maybe that will evolve over…
I don’t have a niche. Or to be more precise, I probably have several different niches depending on who I’m talking to and what I’m doing. I talk about PR and public affairs with students and clients and fellow PR people. Within these fields, am I a tech specialist? A B2B specialist? A charity specialist? I talk about…
i have to treat myself like prey because i am loathe to follow the commands of both internal and external expectation, i cannot declare: "this is what i'm going to do today" and follow through the only way i can behave is to stfu about what i'm going to do and just do it. the only way is to say NOTHING AND JUST DO IT.…
We're already used to interacting with wallets in this manner. But it's wrong to assume that our wallet should be the only key-card that opens all the doors. That's not the version of the future that I want to live in. The one where you flash your black amex at the door to get into the VIP room behind the VIP room.…
I'm a big fan of Steven Strogatz's writings. He's an applied mathematician with Cornell & has a flair for making you love mathematics. A concept from one of his books - 'Infinite Powers' stuck with me for a while. "You can reach potential infinity but not completed infinity. Unless there's calculus." It's a beautiful…
As a new year's resolution this year, I would like to write a book. Nothing too complicated, something small that helps software engineers learn to make homemade ramen from scratch. I'd love to package what I know into something I can hand friends when they're in a funk, eating too much processed food, and spending…
I am writing this right now, so that’s how I know I’m a writer. But the problem with me as a writer is that I have no experiences of note that anyone would want to hear about. The advice I’ve always given myself (distilled down from advice I’ve heard others give) is “write vignettes, write them detailed and vivid and…
People don’t like getting sick, but I do. Getting something like the cold has several stages. First, there’s the feeling that it’s coming. Then you’re actually sick—the low point. After a while, you start getting better. It’s the getting better part that makes me like getting sick. Why is it enjoyable, exactly? You…
Back from spending time with "family" - not blood, but "adopted". had to drag myself out a bit to get there, but had a thoroughly good time with them, some of whom I hadn't seen in person for several years. It can be nice to have non-family family around. No word from my buddy, but then again, for all his faults and…
What does a businessman or an entrepreneur do? If one is to take up the definition in trend, a person who identifies problems, make and sells solutions to people, and risk whatever he has in that pursuit is called a businessman or entrepreneur. Who else risk it all in pursuit of something? A stupid person. So to…
We quote Steve Jobs a lot on how we can connect the dots looking backward. To pick and choose parts we remember well to craft a narrative that we call our story, in a way that makes sense. Retrospective parenting is what I call consoling the kid who got hurt years ago. To make sense of the hurt that hasn't healed.…
The only thing that bores me more than my opinion is yours. I haven't heard a new take or a hot take in more than 20 years. Most of my takes are bargain basement off the shelf opinions that I hold true -- I think? -- not because I believe them but because of some delusional image I have of myself. I am not the only…
I'm writing this while waiting at the entrance of Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay. I'm here to accompany my uncle for his cancer treatment. This Nicheless post has no purpose. It's just a stream of consciousness from the perspective of a person in an unfamiliar situation. Hospitals are a sobering place to spend time…
Of course it's been pointed out with increasing frequency of late, but I believe it bears repeating. This addiction to seeking out the comfort of the likeminded to the exclusivity of all others and recoiling from the sheer audacity of differently-minded people to exist cannot possibly lead to anything good in the long…
Gotta be living the best at every moment. Ang mo vs Asian mentality Do you like yourself at this second? Would you be liking yourself if you were someone else? You don’t need to decrease your energy level to match the same as PS You need to stay focus and be focus Not thinking of something else dirty with her You need…
There were few mass shootings in the US over last couple of days and this got me thinking what could be the root causes of such a hideous act of crime. The incidents were given different names such as - gun violence, hate crime, domestic terrorism, white supremist attack etc. based on which media outlet you consume…
Ontem, em uma aula do mestrado, me senti burra. Burra, pura e simplesmente.
Twitter is not so much a social media company as a core part of the global digital infrastructure. Today, that core infrastructure that hosts billions of messages - from the public communications of governments, corporations, civil society and celebrities to the mundane rants of ordinary citizens - is about to pass,…
We're always optimising that we lose the ability to really enjoy any moment. We are always trying to see, "How can I get the most of this moment". If you look at Efficiency as a formula = Value out of this moment / Time spent on this moment. Then we have begun to optimise for both = Getting most value, whilst spending…
I woke up today with anger. I’m just so angry and so frustrated. Nelson told me about how he reacted to Pandu saying that your girlfriend is only not on your side, don’t talk. He was so upset then that I wasn’t on his side. And now he realises that he never thought about it from my side. That unless I saw the logic,…
India is undoubtedly facing challenging times. This isn't solely due to a specific party, but rather the collective direction we are taking as a nation. Our control has slipped away, replaced by desperation and misguided efforts. The current government's lack of action or passive endorsement of lawbreakers exacerbates…
Are we here for power? Are we here for sex? OR Are we here for meaning? When you are born, the consciousness inside of you doesn't know any labels. When you try to look a newborn baby in the eyes you will notice that it's eyes can't focus. It has to learn to interpret certain frequencies into certain colors. I'd say…
i feel like every person with a solid sense of self has "themes" for ex: - outdoor sports, traveling, nature, wanting to discover the world, wanting to have fun (japanese with shun) - environmentalism, human rights activism, politics (some swiss ppl i know) - money, how much money they have, how much more money they…
This is what I'd like to say: "Hey, how are things going with Project X? Do you require more time?" What I have to say is this: "Hey, how are you doing? I just wanted to check in on Project X and make sure everything is running smoothly. The deadline is approaching, so please let me know if you require extra time. :D"…
We often romanticize the quiet. We take holidays away from noisy cities and plug in earphones to cut out the noise in our surroundings. It creates a sense of focus-the quiet. We seek quietude through meditation and exercise. Sleeping well is one of the other ways we get a sense of quiet. But I often feel we avoid the…
I don't know where to start. For some reason I find this medium intriguing. I only found it a few days ago, but can't remember where now. I feel like I am going to need a few accounts. I would love to have one that is totally anonymous. I'll fess up to this one at least. I don't even know how long 300 words is. I…
Is knowing the things but spending time to argue/fight your way through things that don’t matter. Like PS circling round and round the words she chose; trying to prove a point where all of us knew there’s no use Boomer is a derogatory term. Being boomer is a sign of being stupid; not clear of what you wanted to convey…
I finally jumped onto the startup bandwagon towards the end of 2021 at the time when offices were sending emails to their employees about opening up. It occurred to me then that if I did not do this, then the only choice left to me would be to go back to the corporate world. I decided to start my own corporate world…
Also, given I am at a distance now, can I give him the credit he deserves for the effort that he put in to fix it? Can I slowly let this ghost of 2017 Nelson lose power over me so that I can gain inner peace? Can I forgive? I am a very vengeful person, and I know I have felt like "I want Nelson to suffer for what he…
somewhere for this to live! - my thoughts on loving friends, blurring the platonic (or my exploration into the actual etymological/philosophical origins of the word cause.. i keep wanting to make it include romance.. which i feel is valid rn) --- "friend crushes" and what that even really means/is it a thing -…
It is important to intervene when you get into a negative self-talk rabbit hole. It happened to me today: "It's 5 pm! No haven't been 'productive'" "What are you doing? The client is billing you!" In these times, you need to ask the sergeant to relax. I call this alter-ego, the Sergeant. Intervene in the following…
