Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
your wife wakes up. opens the curtain. looks at you sleep. i imagined how you would look when sleeping. i don't know how i look when sleeping. i imagine do you smile when she brushes her hand on your cheek. i think you do. she makes good breakfast, doesn't she? i don't make breakfast. does she ground you? does it feel…
Happy new year, everyone! I'm looking forward to 2023. Many possibilities are already showing their faces!
Professional sport is portrayed as being the pinnacle of human physical ability. I call BS. Sport is entertainment. And professional sport is professional entertainment. There is no evolutionary advantage for millions of people sit down to watch 22 grown men chase a ball. We do it because it entertains us. In the past…
All human organizations are hierarchical. Decision-making is concentrated near the top of the hierarchy. One can conceptualize the organization as a complex function whose input is information, which flows upward into the decision-making strata of the hierarchy, and whose output is power, which subsequently flows…
[since pretty much no one would be able to find this link unless they saw my goodreads account, i've decided to put a lot of my book-focused ideas here] some readers are also writers, but sometimes people are just purely readers. i'm watching tokyochemist on youtube compare virginia woolf and ottessa moshfegh and she…
I’ve been so supportive to Shivani. I’m so excited for her. That is true. But I’m also going through pain but don’t want her to have to see this because I don’t want it to affect her relationship. I can already imagine nelson saying “oh, you’re such a liar, you’re such a fake, yada yada” Fuck off okay? Take your own…
Age is just a number Remember you can be young By being in your own skin Treat funny stuffs as funny stuffs Try to light up mood Your job would literally affect who you are as a person Comparing your engineering job to jobs in sales Environment are more light hearted But don’t get affected by your environment Think…
i love books that are "aggressively pointless" like they make a point to be pointless (i learned this term from a goodreads user who condemned a book for having this quality that i so dearly cherish. btw; that guy with mainstream taste from youtube named "jack" actually disliked jordan castro's /the novelist/ which…
In every job, there is a toughness and a hardness (difficulty) - everything has a level for you to attain; not everything is easy. In every job. Even if you’re not in the dream job yet you cannot lose your identity. You have to fight hard and do your best in every situation - earn as much, or learn as much: and do…
Crazy thought -- I know -- but what if much of what ails this world could be fixed simply by finding the right place for people to fit? Now, I know I'm CrAaAzY but maybe -- just maybe -- that's because sanity is defined by the contrast of perspective; what is sane to you is insane to me, and so forth. "Well, WE are…
Every single human society that has ever existed, past or present, has had to contend with the question of how to control the generative impulse. Variously identified as the will to power, yetzer hara (יצר הרע), or "toxic masculinity," it is almost always referred to in terms that are more male than female, and…
Ontem eu tive terapia.
The startup journey is full of hidden traps that can destroy even the most promising companies. I've seen too many talented founders fall into these psychological pitfalls that silently kill startups from within. This happened with myself during a certain phase and thankfully a coach held the mirror. These aren't the…
What a humbling experience has been this one week. Met some wonderful people and felt the pain of some random people sharing the same space as us on planet earth. All of us have it so different and our needs/ demands are so diverse but when you participate in medical camps as these you realise how privileged you are.…
A student made a comment in class about "planting the bomb." His teacher asked what he meant, to which he responded by making fart noises. The teacher reported him to admin, admin called the police, and the police hauled the boy off and detained him for making a bomb threat at school. This is a real story from a…
i just called myself "we" like i'm fucking King Henry the VIII
The distinct feeling I'M SULLYING THE SPACE WITH MY AWFUL WORDNESS. But it's also nicely distraction-free, conducive to taking more care with my words in general. And I have to say 300 words is a pretty good limit. Hope people keep giving it a try, might turn into something.
In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tech industry made two inferences that broadly informed strategy: - Software is now going to eat the world at a massively increased rate - Many people now like to work remotely and have a better work/life balance The industry accepted this as a package deal: fine,…
Yesterday I started working on ramen based on local ingredients from Goa. So far I've swapped the traditional pork topping for a Goan Choriz and I blended cashew nuts into the broth. As I gently pushed the boundaries here I constantly found myself asking what makes ramen ramen? The black and white answer is that Ramen…
I need to recognize that taking decisions is one of the worst things for me. I like what Shubham said - do things that you can which are in your control and hope for the best. I am finding it very difficult to take a decision. And I think the reason I struggle so much with it is because I: 1. strongly fear the blame…
People find their own ways on how they want to give back to society and people in their lives. Giving back to society is about making a positive impact, and there is always something out there for everyone. My mother was not from a very wealthy background, so she would say there will never be a perfect time to give…
More need to realize the age we as a species will soon enter. While the old system titters at the brink, the dawn of a new way of life will follow quickly and make the suffering of this age die like a bad habit. Let me explain (and this is the perfect platform to do this). Every technology we’ve built has iterated…
Our world is shaped by shared myths What is a shared myth anyway? Shared myths are things which has zero or near zero intrinsic value by itself. Its value is provided by the people believing in them. They lose their value if everyone stops believing Most people do things for Pleasure,Money & Religion Money does not have…
The road behind is lined with trees that are tall enough to puncture clouds and obstruct birds. Some people of the world call it a single-lane road, but most know that it is more a passageway, a corridor through which we're expected to move heavy-duty vehicles with big fat asses through. And you best hope that there…
Last weekend, I ran for two and a half hours straight. No music, no podcasts, no one beside me, just me, the road, and whatever my mind decided to say. I used to think that sounds lonely, but it actually never feels that way. It’s something I look forward to all week, those long, quiet hours where I can hear myself…
Advice from successful media creators must be taken with a pinch of salt. "Start writing online". "Start a podcast". "Start a YouTube channel". Okay, but hold on. Imagine two scenarios: 1) An online writer making a $500K a year 2) An investor making $5 million a year Both love what they do equally. Both work the same…
there are artists and then there are Other People and i'm having a hard time not devaluing those other people. but who are they? what do they do? what is their MO? i'm not sure how to trust them.
how come most people (me included) can name Lewis Caroll off the top of their heads but cannot name J.M. Barrie, when Peter Pan is just as iconic as Alice in Wonderland? I've never read Peter Pan and now I want to. I put on my winter scrunchie, a red tie, and I feel like Wendy now. How many Alice in Wonderlands are…
last week, i fell into an argument with jaime who pushed back against my desire to investigate the workings of the orb. “theres no figuring out how it works” they said. “nothing here makes logical sense, nor should it. we just have to trust in the path that this planet is giving us. the orb is an opportunity to…
If only I could.. Left in the liminal spaces Adrift
That is life these days. The moles keep popping up. I’m knocking them down but not at the pace that feels sustainable to keep them at bay. So, time to figure out how to kill the moles before they’re out of control.
the act of cooking alone fills my appetite, I guess I'd been picturing eating it so much that I got full is this true also of sex and love? that the thought of sex fills you such that you have no more room for love? i made tom yum soup and realized that the secret is a ton of lime juice this is the "essence" of tom…
my sleep was really poor i blame it on (1) lack of exercise (2) having to sleep next to a person (3) said person "forcing" me to watch movies with him, but delaying the start of the movie until late because he has to "work on something", causing unfavorable screen lights to enter my field of consciousness and…
Tons of people Tons of things to do Tons of places With all this, I just go into a very extrovert personality to protect myself
I’ve been working on building some reverb tanks the last few weeks. I got the first one wired tonight and I messed up something. The two circuit boards, that are not connected, are somehow interacting with each other. I’m going to try and wire up the second one tomorrow and see if I can find what I did wrong the first…
Shephards pie with chicken mince, mini pomfrets on a bed of buttered spinach, pasta with a medley of ''english'' vegetables in a tomato sauce. Green salad with a generous topping of feta. Of course, some very garlicky bread. For dessert a christmas plum cake with fresh cherries in a custard. Topped off with a bottle…
I vividly remember my mother's outburst in the summer of 2013 when I ran away from a Bangalore internship within five days of joining. She was angry at my incompetency to stick to a job. She compared me to neighbours who settled in soulless jobs. Her disbelief in my post-graduate design education fueled my own anger.…
I noticed a thing about myself a couple of times - I go into the "I'll prove I am worthy of this" mode too soon. It is a pretty natural reaction to feeling rejected or challenged. I guess some of it also comes from a childhood where quite a bit of validation came from achievement. On most counts that need to prove is…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqs5sdCPm8E i just ate a bowl of curry udon noodle soup and i'm ready to take on the world the game plan: -yoga -laundry -clean the LEAKY ASS TOILET (FUCK)
I recently started playing Dungeons & Dragons again after about 25 years. I used to play it as a kid, but now that I’ve picked it up again as adult, I’m with the idea that you can sit around and talk, yet this structured, elaborate immersive experience unfolds. Now we have a regular tuesday game online, and a one or…
This is by far the most important and most difficult lesson I've learned over the past years. I'm still getting better at it more and more but it's not easy. The whole gist of it is that you should do what you have to do at the time that you have to. Sounds pretty simple but you'd be hard pressed to find someone out…
I am quite sure that it's not an uncommon thing for any desi/middle eastern child to declare the following statement - My mom's biryani is the best in the whole wide world! And I'm no such exception to this. I do believe my mom's biryani is the best and every other person who has tried it so far has claimed the same.…
Shit day - but never forget where you came from & lose sight of where you wanna be. Be like Alvin Tan. Confident, if not anything he at least brings his best out. Don’t have to be shy and negative about yourself - thinking what you say is not going to be correct. Just say you whatever you want to say. At least you’re…
