Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Coming back from a week of traveling, being in nature, and pretty much not working at all, I am realizing how much I love working - understanding new concepts, creating something new, deeply engaging with a problem and thinking it through. Sitting in the train on the way back, already working on a few things and…
The term "mastery" or become a "master" of X skill is being thrown around too lightly in recent years. Seems like everyone who writes marketing copy about an online course or other resource like it enjoys using the term a lot. For most it's not their fault. I agree that it sounds appealing for the user that's reading…
I would have never discovered wonders of a co-working space, had I not started on my own. The hunt for my own office space made me look for options beyond traditional spaces. The real estate in Mumbai is so expensive that anyone with limited finance has no choice but to be imaginative. The pictures of spaces, within…
I tell myself as I count down the minutes to 10:49am. In the middle of work, in the middle of a life I should be focusing on. "15 minutes of thought," I say - and I attempt to figure them out right here. I'm overwhelmed by own lies (of secretly working on a task I don't like doing, of pretending to work on things I…
A nice lunch, cooking from scratch, having different dishes and trying new recipes, a couple years ago it would had been ordinary, but now with all the convenient meals that are premade and delivery services it just becomes a more special experience and feels rewarding. I want to try to cook more often, its healthy,…
You want it - you need to get it. Speaking like yourself And having that “qualifications” and deep thought process Having a mind is one thing But speaking eloquently and able to convey your messages to the world is one too You think of mum - speaks and shouts loud but no content - people look at her for fun Think of…
Me deixa…
last night i slept worse than i have in months. i mean i’ve been sleeping like shit since we landed on this rock but last night the pain just took over me. the night before, i snuck out on my own to see if I could figure out what the orb was composed of. i thought, if i could just get close enough to chip off a shard…
For five years, I had a hectic commute to and from college. I have used Mumbai locals for all of those five years because it was the fastest mode of transport. Conveniently, after I graduated, I did jobs that didn't require a commute that would tire me. However, I just started working at a new job and anticipate some…
It’s Saturday. I should be grading homework and unit assignments. I have a master’s portfolio proposal to write (separate, apparently, from the actual master's thesis I wrote last semester). I have grad school homework to do. Instead, I’m on the couch. My youngest child has his legs draped over mine; he’ll follow me…
It's used to justify atrocities, it's used to discriminate, it's used to oppress and most importantly it is used to squash debate on critical topics. The very opportunity to improve a good endeavour can be shut down by using the "making the world better" card. They key is not whether it is making the world better or…
The "techlash" — the widespread negative public perception of Big Tech — marches onward, gaining intensity with every new tech-related scandal. For major tech companies, the techlash has contributed to low profits, falling share prices, and fleeing users. It seems people are wising up to the negative side-effects of a…
I'm a big fan of Yes Theory and their open, serendipitous approach to life. And I try to take them as an example, to seek more discomfort myself, to say yes, to approach strangers, and to face new situations openly and curiously. That's easier said than done, and it's still not easy for me. Too often, my comfort zone…
I am far from a frequent flier. However over the last decade or so, I've taken more than my fair share of flights from Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore airports. Hyderabad, Goa and Delhi have figured a close second and in third place have been a smattering of flights including to cities like Lucknow, Leh, Indore,…
Things I did wrong in the relationship: 1. I did not walk away 2. I was not truthful about what I was feeling to myself (though I feel like my feelings were criminalised, I do think I need to take responsibility for this) 3. Self regulating my actions despite him begging me multiple times not to - I almost felt like…
Teaches you that: you can get whatever you want to get by just focusing on it Focus on the "CAN GET" rather than the stagnant "WHAT IFS" - "WHY DO I WANT TO DO" Say NOO to negative thoughts - JUST DO IT And move on with life. Because they are so many aspects of life & You gotta do well in everyone of it. Remember the…
I’m pushing you away because I don’t know how to go back. And I miss you so much. How we used to be. I’m already not recognising myself. I want that care again. I want you in my life. The way it was. Mixed signals and all. But I can’t just walk back into it without an explanation. But how would I even begin tell you…
As a person in their late 20s, aren't you sick of being constantly told that you're not good enough? It may not be the case for all, but I am sure most of us don't feel good enough about anything we do. I am happy to be corrected. Every other day I see some new development or a new business propping up to tell me that…
Crossing the threshold into tranquility. Silence. Figures reading, learning, absorbing. You tread lighter than usual. Paces slower. A softness of the feet as a sign of respect to the literature. A wave of colour greets you. Blinding brightness, as you search for familiarity. A name, a face, a feeling. Row by row of…
(original: 2010 August 03) i connect dots. random? NO. shuffling around of dots? ALWAYS. including people? YES. mindmapping in motion ... i often find myself connecting events, information, people, and activities that seem unrelated to some but are (or should be) related. back in 1995, i called it POE's Corner -…
Somewhat comically, Nicheless has found a couple of niches of its own. (1) Content creators who use it to publish content outside their niche. (2) Other creative people who use it as a low pressure environment to publish their thoughts. Besides copious amounts of gratitude towards early adopters, my mind is filled…
When we prepared for our move from plush to mush, we planned to live mostly without electricity. Solar power was - and still is - part of our plan. Since that part requires more funds than currently in our tiny bank account, we rely on whatever electricity is available. I have mixed feelings about just how easy it has…
Congee served in a ceramic bowl, cubes of salmon still cooking slowly in a thickened broth of grain, stock and minced pork, each bite velvety on the tongue. Tangerine pollock roe smushed into a paste, generously seasoned with salt, pepper, lemon, egg yolks and a spoonful of Japanese mayonnaise. Expertly tossed through…
These throughlines are my five paired strengths - CliftonStrengths and VIA character - serving my five areas of focus, interest, roles - https://nicheless.blog/post/now-%7C-areas-of-focus-interest-roles joy & service . ACTIVATOR + KINDNESS for others and for self health & physical . ARRANGER + GRATITUDE for…
Are you struggling with a habit? Look at your materials and tools. Your materials and tools can inspire you to show up every day. Showing up every day makes a habit. This idea works. I first noticed this with my husband's hobby. My husband is a stereo fanatic. We don't have the same tastes in music. As he perfected…
That first step is a doozy. It can be hard, even if it’s a step you've taken before. Maybe it’s a difficult step, a step you don’t like, a step you fear, or a step you have taken in a while. The reason you're not taking the step doesn’t matter. Not taking it does. I restarted a project I set aside 20 years ago. I…
When all the memes of Bangalore weather have been read, the one which is difficult to drag on for too long is the one about Bangalore's weather. When it's a pleasant 24 / 25 degrees centigrade, a gentle breeze and at 5 pm, one sees the first glimpse of the sun which will set a little past 6 pm, Bangalore can be…
I prefer packing last minute. It has helped me pack better and not forget the essential items. But this preference is in stark contrast with that of my parents. My mum packs about 2-3 days in advance, and my dad at least the day prior. My preference started changing when I began traveling without my parents. At first,…
I don't know what else to call it. And jump-working sounds fun. I'm trying to describe my preferred way of working, where I basically do... whatever the fuck I like. Schedules and plans don't work for me. Themed days can go die. The absolute scatter-brain that I am, I grew frustrated with my inability to focus on…
We quote Steve Jobs a lot on how we can connect the dots looking backward. To pick and choose parts we remember well to craft a narrative that we call our story, in a way that makes sense. Retrospective parenting is what I call consoling the kid who got hurt years ago. To make sense of the hurt that hasn't healed.…
"What's your name?" One encounters this question in an ever declining frequency. As you add years, the frequency of the question reduces. Recollect the moment you answered with pride with your chest bloated Pronouncing your name. As one ages, one takes increasing offense if asked "What's your name?" So courtesy comes…
Ahhh observe from behind. an alternate message is revealed. is this a message you want to share? if not iterate on the original until both messages are what you want to share because the alternate view from others is just as valid as your own...
I love the structure of a routine. After being out of routine for the last three weeks, I finally returned to it. I felt the burden lift from my shoulders when I pressed “publish.” My sacred hours are in the late evening. I write an essay, something like an organized brain dump, on my topic of choice. The last task of…
Ramesh was sick of it. Sick of a mediocre life. Sick of being an average employee, of having a middling personality. But hope is a thing of feathers... or something... he never particularly enjoyed poetry. Why couldnt they just write what they meant instead ? He figured that his problems emerged from his drifting…
Woke up around 2:20am feeling impending doom. Worries about taking care of people. Worries about not being able to do what I want. Worries about always being at others' beck & call. Watched some food & self-help videos on YouTube. Got back to bed better listening to train "chu-CHUNK=chu=CHUNK" noises to distract me.…
Everybody knows that the quickest way to kill a hobby is to turn it into a profession, i.e., to get paid to do it. A hobby is an activity performed for its own sake. The reward is the pleasure derived from performing the activity itself, generally accompanied by some progression of technical or artistic skill over…
It's the fourth quarter of 2023, and I chose to replenish my 6-month undated Roterunner planner - https://roterunner.com/products/purpose-planner - partly out of convenience, partly out of utility. Meanwhile, here's a list of planners which folks have shared -…
The paradox of life is, It gives, the lightness of joy and the burden of pain; and takes,so we may learn the worth of what was given. Every gift of joy or burden of sorrow, arrives with the promise of its leaving. And though we may celebrate or grieve its passing, It was never meant to be kept....only experienced. Time…
Recently, I've noticed an uptick in conversations around 'content.' Too many creators want to decide what should be called content and what shouldn't. Most comparisons stem from a sense of self-superiority on "the process" one has, before one publishes or creates. The complaint is usually one or the other variations…
All thanks to Winters: I'm basking in sun while writing this. Sun's warmth feels too heavenly these days. My society's ground is filled with people, majorly grannies with their grand kids. Every person present here has come down of their matchboxes to soak in some Vit-D. I can see so many teletubbies having fun,…
Moods, nausea and fear washes over me in tides and recedes just like that. Like my therapist said, fear needs to be embraced. It's an emotion that serves one quite well if embraced properly. I try to slowly build a friendship with fear because something tells me she will be a companion for life. Fear is a sneaky…
I had been thinking about writing this series for a long time, but I just would not manage to find the time to finally sit down and pen my thoughts. I think the procrastination was probably due to being in a constant state of extremes - either of hyper anxiety due to workload, or absolute boredom and laziness due to…
https://voca.ro/1hJFed3yuwpt me, practicing for gig night i need to file my nails it is so hard to play the F chord
Creating is hard - so much harder than consuming. Sometimes I find myself trapped in a consumption hole, paralized by the amount of blood, sweat, and tears it takes to create. Consuming might be way easier and more stimulating in the short term. However, it is not fulfilling; it's a trap. Creating is hard, but it is…
Sim, odeio é uma palavra muito forte. Eu também acho. Mas vamos lá de novo. Eu odeio sair a noite.
