Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Alfred Hitchcock said, "Happiness is a clear horizon." -- Feelings of joy or excitement are not happiness; happiness is a place of contentment. The problem arises when we place happiness so high on our list of priorities that we forget it comes from taking action. Yes, I'm not against happiness; it is desirable.…
Hateful admiration. Painful pleasure. Relaxing chaos. One of the things I want out of life is to experience the full range of emotions. Listening to music takes me close. Happiness, sadness, anger, affection, hate, angst are some of the few I've identified that I've felt, but as humans we are capable of so much more…
To begin some things either there should be passion or fear in your heart. Guess I have both and additionally the overwhelming feeling in my head which pushes me away from my tasks and also pulls me back from long procrastination. I remember learning this word "Overwhelmed" in my 10th standard. My English teacher told…
When I touch my thumb and my index finger together, if feel a sensation. I can try to convey my experience to you in words. Pressure, skin, temperature, bones, soft, hard. These are just words. We love words, that's why were are here on nicheless. But in no way, you can ever know what this sensation feels like for me.…
Ahh reading of an old utopian idea with a realization that it has a possibility to exists in the context of today...
The dark elf is a political type. He (and it's almost always a he) is a member of the privileged class, either by birth or by wits. All the opportunities for success were made available to him. The social graces, mannerisms, and noble lies of the elite were inculcated in him from a young age. All of the social…
- andy warhol - tao lin - megan boyle - jordan castro - sheila heti i really want to eat some raisins right now what do all of these people have in common? their ratio of thoughtfulness to playfulness is just right they exude a level of wit&sillies that is just below the threshold required for actual laughter but that…
We are all lied to in childhood. The very first one in the West is about Santa Claus. When people lie, they usually do so to advance themselves in a self serving way. But this isn’t how I viewed my own behavior towards my kids. I was typically lying to protect them. Spare them from a cruel truth that they didn’t need…
What if augmented reality (AR) went beyond simply projecting (virtual, simplified) models of objects into our existing world? AR should be a true expansion of our sensory inputs, enhancing how we experience reality. Scientific instruments already achieve this by allowing us to perceive phenomena beyond our natural…
my sleep was really poor i blame it on (1) lack of exercise (2) having to sleep next to a person (3) said person "forcing" me to watch movies with him, but delaying the start of the movie until late because he has to "work on something", causing unfavorable screen lights to enter my field of consciousness and…
I was born in the late 80s, which means I grew up playing Starcraft. For those of you not born in the 80s Starcraft is a computer game where you'd build little armies and conquer the map. There were the future humans called Terrans. There were fancy hi-tech aliens with their spaceships and laser beams called the…
Notifications control our lives. Every minute of my day, as my phone buzzes, I can't stop this unending desire to see what the notification was. I'm consumed by the apps on my phone. In a day, it doesn't seem so noticeable. But as the days add up, I live my life by the notification, more than by the moments. We all…
Why are we so unhappy with our work? And if we are unhappy? Why are we doing it? Who is making us do it? Is it the govt? The society? Your family? The ‘top 150’ people who run the world? Why are they called ‘top 150’ anyway? Is happiness even a correct measure of us working? Or should we just be satisfied? Is it…
When you were a child, this was a recurrent scene: It's Sunday, all your family gathers around the table to have breakfast. Your mother is pouring the coffee and your father is reading the paper. You see him scanning the pages, looking for something that grabs his attention. He reads and nods a few times, doing some…
Geralmente eu escrevo…
Is there anything worse than feeling alone? To believe you are worthless. To envy those who aren't alone. To regret your decisions. To question your very existence. To feel your life passing, surrounded by love and laughter, and yet so far away from achieving it. To write and hope the pain dulls. To invite sleep with…
Life is just a game - don’t feel so uptight and harsh on yourself; especially if you f up too many things It’s just consequences; every action and thought process will lead to one and another I just hope at this age you’ll be mature enough to know the significance of - Not going to the gym Sleeping early Don’t think…
Focusing on work can be quite a challenge when your brain is racing like a little engine. More and more thoughts and desires try to derail your workflow. How can you catch those thoughts, suspend distractions, and transform valuable ideas into something productive when they keep coming? Having a solid plan and…
A short one about an interesting sliding doors moment. Louis Menand’s 2021 review in the New Yorker of Glenn Frankel’s “Shooting Midnight Cowboy: Art, Sex, Loneliness, Liberation, and the Making of a Dark Classic” contained a brilliant tidbit. It's believed that a key element contributing to the mood of Midnight…
Creating is hard - so much harder than consuming. Sometimes I find myself trapped in a consumption hole, paralized by the amount of blood, sweat, and tears it takes to create. Consuming might be way easier and more stimulating in the short term. However, it is not fulfilling; it's a trap. Creating is hard, but it is…
We are having an argument. On social media. Well, you know, not exactly an argument. That's what everyone always calls it. Maybe it's a conversation, a dialogue? It's hard to tell. Sometimes it feels tense, but I can't really know can I? Is there a goal in mind or are we just passing time. What is the endgame, I being…
After a day full of tasks, meeting friends, and spending time with my family, today I finally had time to sit down and study. But the focus just wasn't there. My attention kept drifting away, and I couldn't to bring it back. I've realized that I have more motivation to study at night because there’s nothing else to…
Most of us work towards building a life you don't need to escape from. A free life. "F(ree) You". There are few moments in life where your perspective to life alters completely. One such event was when my investments started to cover my monthly expenses and beyond. I managed to reach this point owing to many reasons,…
A serious daily journaler may have an extensive journaling routine. Three morning pages? They take 30 minutes or more, depending on writing/typing speed. A multiple-component journaling routine? My routine takes 20 to 45 minutes consisting of the following: gratitude, intent for the day, sometimes I need an…
I'm always surprised when I find out that I'm not who I thought I am. When I was younger, I thought of myself as a go-getter. Someone who pursued. A manic worker. But I find satisfaction now in not pursuing every possibility. In being selective and leaving a lot of room and time to digest and think rather than just…
I've recently been feeling like the effects of pandemic burnout were at once stronger and more severe than I ever considered. That's besides the plain fact of contracting Covid twice along the way. Shit has been rough. Sleep overtakes me even after God doses of espresso and cold brew. Fresh air can help, but sometimes…
It’s time to lock in. Lock in on your dreams. Lock in on your work. Lock in on your standards. Do the boring work and it will work. Leave nothing to chance. Create your own luck. Lock in.
Frenchman Jules Allix, in the mid-nineteenth century, popularized a kind of organic Internet made out of snails. Drawing upon the physician Franz Mesmer’s theory of “animal magnetism,” which postulated the existence of a universal magnetic force connecting living things, it was predicated upon the idea that any two…
Since I retired in June, I've struggled with feeling like I am doing enough. I stay busy and accomplish a lot. For some reason, changing from full-time to retirement makes me think I should do more than I am. I think I found the secret to feeling good about slowing down. Stop worrying about the next thing. Be and stay…
People don’t like getting sick, but I do. Getting something like the cold has several stages. First, there’s the feeling that it’s coming. Then you’re actually sick—the low point. After a while, you start getting better. It’s the getting better part that makes me like getting sick. Why is it enjoyable, exactly? You…
I have been a heavy user of the internet since 2000. There were years between 2012 and 2016 when I was very active on social media. Since then I have shied away from maintaining any online identity. There has been a constant urge to build an anonymous identity (to find like minded people) but I don’t want to build any…
my memories glitch past scenes painstakingly ripped out. sugar we're falling down screaming, "I LOVE WATCHING memoryTV!" oh you again. every time it's the same goddamn movie: my chest swells, autumn smells then you, you disappoint me. 1+1=2 crosslegged i sit in the piles of tangled tapes waist-high. 6:00pm, the cinema…
Its not an existential question, more of an introduction if you have stumbled here and thought - "who is this, why should I place any value on what they have written?" Like all of us, I'm many things, depending on how you know me. Personally, I'm a father of two teenagers and husband to a funny and patient wife.…
why is it so hard to communicate and be understood? i feel like this is the hardest thing we have to do as humans.
This isn't the first time I am attempting to maintain a streak. I've done it before. In 2019, I kept a diary and wrote a line or two about each day of the year. Sometimes it would be detailed, while at others, not so much. In 2018, I started doing the daily house chores with full intention. I would help at home as…
I have realized that I have grown into a different style of traveling, normally we don't travel together with my family and the times my mom and I had traveled when I was a kid were mainly work trips, me walking around while my mom would be looking at products. Now that I'm older I have realized that this traveling…
I've been running up against lots of large, intractable issues recently. The nature of work, the problems with capitalism, climate doom-erism, the absence of any kind of regulation on social platforms (or tech in general), my role in all this... All heavy stuff. It's exhausting. These are not things individuals can…
Jensen said it is the AI of iPhone era. I was a little bit sceptical at first. Now I think it is true, may be for slightly different reason than Jensen's. We continue to see LLM / Generative AI improvement every single weeks or months. And most expect we have at least another 5 years of these improvements. While we…
Do not have a backup plan Try things more radical Drop out or do something that is more extreme You’ll perform better Just trust your ability of your brain You’ll be surprised where that would take you And I think you found it by being an archi coordinator in K You did achieve amazing things by trusting yourself Don’t…
Death is a known factor that disrupts all projections. The only problem is we don't know where it fits in the timelines of our lives. Today a friend left the office early. I joked to call out his half day. He smiled, winked and said he's just tired. He promised he'll pick the rest up tomorrow. He will never come back…
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi says flow is the secret to happiness. I agree. Not just because we were born in the same city (but not in the same country — Europe is fun like that sometimes). I feel great when I achieve a state of flow. There’s no self-doubt or bad ideas. Creative juices are flowing, and I lose my sense of…
she is a core memory in my heart long gone, but never forgotten, just too many memories with her, you may delete the photos, but not those imprinted in your mind. she has had the single greatest influence in my life, came at a dark time, left at another. some never leave your soul, she was one of them.
pulled the thread of despair i took to bed last night, the "why bother?" that hovered, unbidden, writing roadblock 97, the one that combines worthiness with approval, the one that questions whether anyone reads anymore, if the world needs another cooking story, the one that tells me i can't for so many reasons. pulled…
Is it fucked to think that If you want to get attracted TO other person The first thing to do is to be attractive yourself (girls trying to be pretty; guys trying to make money) Then you’ll attract people who WANTS it (kinda fucked up to think people you attracted will be lesser than you) Be a great story teller, a…
Today, I met with a friend who was upset about a recent experience at a car dealership. He felt disrespected by the salesman and was still angry and frustrated about it even a week later. We discussed how holding onto these emotions wasn't helpful for him and that with more information, his feelings could change. I…
