Changing Priorities
I'm always surprised when I find out that I'm not who I thought I am.
When I was younger, I thought of myself as a go-getter. Someone who pursued. A manic worker. But I find satisfaction now in not pursuing every possibility. In being selective and leaving a lot of room and time to digest and think rather than just doing.
I used to want to start a business. Own my own thing. Excel. But I'm happier doing my own thing without the need to do it for money. That I can make money doing what someone else wants and then have the time to do what I want for the simple joy of doing it, without compensation from the outside.
I used to think that I wasn't likable or worthy of love. As I do more of the fun things and the social things, I'm finding that to be untrue as well. People do like me and I'm nice to be around. I am very surprised to learn that I see myself this way now too. I am a good friend and like being around good people.
And I find myself slowing down. I'm not as anxious. I'm more myself. I'm happy. What a nice discovery to find out this is me.
