Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Hola!
In a talk, Kathy Schultz asked people how it felt to be wrong. People said it was embarrassing. But she said they answered how it feels when you realize you're wrong. Being wrong feels like being right until you know you're wrong. This makes us think about why people want to change the world but not themselves. In…
Omfg, seems like something big is happening in La Paz City. === anon8858 I’m still recovering from the shock of the assassination attempt on General Rodriguez. I was there covering the General’s speech for El Subsuelo. This is the most disturbing scene I’ve ever witnessed. The General was arriving at the stage when a…
I love the simple process of journaling. Experimenting with new ideas to enhance the journaling experience keeps the habit fresh and interesting. I’ve tried rearranging my journaling components, using prompts, and adding doodles. I finally settled on the order of components. Prompts and doodling didn’t last. I…
Culture is not something that is written in documents/slides or on walls. Culture is created during everyday moments during company building. Culture is the unspoken actions and behaviors of the team during daily operations. Culture starts with founders. Culture is the extension of founder's behavior and personality.…
Earlier this week, a friend shared the official first song of his son, released in mainstream media. Very deep lyrics for an 18 year old to sing, about grief, death, the transient nature of our lives, before moving to the main theme of gratitude. Listening to it, immediately brought an inner smile to my being. I…
Perspectives are so important.. You can be whatever you are if you put yourself to it Really there’s a “better” way to do it than you did - and you’re getting there; Calling off MC Telling people no Striking conversations Putting yourself into uncomfortable situations And growth. However there some thing you can do.…
Why do you always “huh” and assume what people say. Don’t do that Focus on what people say to the 100% and - actually ask & listen very very carefully. Even if you’re doing anything or not doing anything. Don’t become lifeless and mindless zombie Just have own thought and critical thinking - think clearly before…
I have a love-hate relationship with most activists. I admire those that fight for things they believe in, irrespective of personal recognition. But I detest the other kind. The loud ones that play attention-seeking status games shrouded in holier-than-though claims. I get irrationally triggered when I see them…
a few days back,an old friend of mine had lost his wife, watching him made me feel the deep pain that greif holds. Yet, i believe it is a beautiful thing and it shows the purity of ones love, so i wrote this short story. Back in the day, in the town of Jasilam, there was a man named Kabir. He was known for his…
I'm currently finding great enjoyment in qualitative research. Diving deep into a topic, and rethinking and processing all the information until something clicks in a "Eureka" moment is very satisfying. It requires effort to get started (the lazy part in me is fighting against getting started), and costs a lot of…
It is a fact of civilized life that there exist rules which govern and constrain individual behavior. You can't steal your neighbor's car because you don't have one, or because his is faster. Regardless of one's moral philosophical framework, just about everyone agrees on that. We tend to put the people who don't in…
Today is the last day I can do one of those ramblings only 20-somethings do. As the clock strikes midnight, my trial period of adulthood will end and the actual subscription will begin. This is like one of those SMS services that you never signed up for and now there’s no way to unsubscribe. I’ll be 30 tomorrow. About…
The distinct feeling I'M SULLYING THE SPACE WITH MY AWFUL WORDNESS. But it's also nicely distraction-free, conducive to taking more care with my words in general. And I have to say 300 words is a pretty good limit. Hope people keep giving it a try, might turn into something.
As much as it hurt a bit when I wrote the title for this piece a month and half ago, I also realise it sometimes takes time to form a thesis or coherent set of thoughts to say I think this is what I was after. I wrote a Substack articles on social apps 2 Septembers ago. I'd thought of these apps for about 1.5 years at…
What happens when the community and beliefs that helped shape our minds and lives start to fail us? When the questions start to accumulate and remain unanswered or unacknowledged, a gap starts to form. If we’re fortunate enough, the community recognizes this and starts building bridges. If not, we’re forced to jump…
I’ve been meditating on compassion lately, which has led to me trying to figure out what it means. Does it mean wanting people to be happy? Having their material needs met? Does it mean giving people what they want? Satisfying their urges? Wanting freedom for others? Wanting what they want for themselves? Or wanting…
Sometimes I feel like I see my grandmother in your eyes. The way the soft lines across your speckled face crinkle when you laugh. How your hair reaches up to the sky like the winding branches of a tree. I think sometimes I see my grandmother in you where she is not. When your eyebrows crease and I can't tell if I had…
Imagine being a part of a moving circus, but always being a spectator. After all, the only people who get to be a part of a moving circus are the stunt folks, magicians, gymnasts. Spectators don't really move with the circus. Just 48 hours in Bombay, I've realized that my relationship with movies and the media…
i'm starting to look down on people who don't read but at the same time i'm starting to worry if i'm reading too much? i wonder if i'm missing out on living my REAL life whilst i read about people living theirs i have a whole fucking routine of reading. (1) reading a rotating lineup of books but also looking for new…
i feel energetically a little STUCK do i: - do more yoga - get the package - read - write - eat - watch youtube (this seems almost certainly like a bad idea bc i am so annoyed with booktube people but i am curious about just one little video...) ? i'm hungry. fuck. my body has decided. i guess i'll eat leftover…
There are almost no obese people in Copenhagen. Most people are obese in Lexington, Kentucky. It is not that people in Lexington are lazier or dumber or more morally flawed than people in Copenhagen. In Lexington, you can't walk anywhere and it's really hard to buy decent food. In Copenhagen, it's hard to buy shitty…
Happy new year, everyone! I'm looking forward to 2023. Many possibilities are already showing their faces!
Not really sure what to write here. Just checking this website out. I'm thinking of using this more if I find it fancy, as I don't really have the habit of writing and I'm sort of thinking about getting into it. Peace out.
i've never felt there was a stronger case for being selfish. in a good way. like, for the first time, the demand side of the internet has outpaced the supply side. like it finally makes sense to just... be. and maybe that seems oddly specific, or convenient. a reason to realize what has always been true. or maybe it's…
the startling, borderline terrifying -- yet strangely comforting in its reassurance of purpose -- ephiphany: this is FOREVER, this writing gig, this cook & tell revival. like the jarring middle-of-the-night realization in early sobriety. and then, as it did almost a quarter century ago, the universe gave a little…
What happens when your environment does not match your needs? As our need for food and safety is fulfilled, a new void opens up. The need for love and connection. This is where we start noticing other aspects of our environment. A friend, a beautiful lady in the street, a like on a post.. Our environment is the same,…
I'm terrified of this one word. It's just one word but contains an unknown universe within. A universe that I am part of, that I live in, yet that which I want to get out of. I was born into this realm and I continue to live within this reality. Even death does not seem to be a meaningful escape from this multiverse…
26 May 2022 0342 I'm on a date with a woman I don't know IRL. We're walking around in the south side of my home town and go into an old bank building I used to frequent. It's a combination library, pool hall & convenience store. There's a yellow & black strip down the middle of the floor dividing the room in half -…
I wanted to save myself from me. It was a horrifying experience where I was so scared of my life that I wanted to end it because all I could hear myself say was that I am not enough. I started chasing money, power, fame. It then reached a point where I wanted to do everything to prove a point to myself that I am…
In the last weeks I haven’t spent enough time defragmenting my thoughts. Too much stimulation, too little processing - and I already notice the negative effect on my mental wellbeing. I need to take better care of my attentional space. More carefully select the external information I consume, and give more time and…
We started with Simple HomePage, an HTML or even just .txt file. And then Graphics, Links to a few more pages. We needed more so we have CMS or a program, Perl Script on the Server, so we could publish online. It will Generate the Page from DB and Store it as Static File. Basically Moving the Web Site Editor from…
As a positive person, I still have a strong Eeyore characteristic. I have doubts. You seldom hear me express this side of my personality. Acting positive and confident follows the belief that you should act like you want to be. So I appear to have a positive outlook. Which, of course, I do have, except for when I…
Some days are better than others. A couple of days ago, I ran the fastest I probably ever have for that distance. I was so happy and proud. But today, I just couldn't keep up; my pace was as slow as it was a couple of months ago. I kept having pain and couldn't breathe because my nose was dripping. There are so many…
When was the last time did you try or buy some thing out of your own curiosity or without any feedback? Must have been a very very long time i am sure. Today for everything and anything we have an app and someone would have written a feedback about the product or the service which you want to buy or try. This has made…
Every once in a while, it's good to make a break from the traditional routine. This is outside of the normal breaks that one should have during the day or the different activities done in the weekend. Those are fine and work well but there's need for something more drastic sometimes. Changing the routine, changing the…
i feel like every person with a solid sense of self has "themes" for ex: - outdoor sports, traveling, nature, wanting to discover the world, wanting to have fun (japanese with shun) - environmentalism, human rights activism, politics (some swiss ppl i know) - money, how much money they have, how much more money they…
today should be a good day if we would be a could be.
Notifications control our lives. Every minute of my day, as my phone buzzes, I can't stop this unending desire to see what the notification was. I'm consumed by the apps on my phone. In a day, it doesn't seem so noticeable. But as the days add up, I live my life by the notification, more than by the moments. We all…
slow sunday . routines shape-shift. a day of self-forgiveness. no need for speed. languish on couch and, fueled by words of other writers (some intentionally motivating, some effortless), a sticky note: the mini plan for today's writing. NB: dear self, why do i feel compelled to make everything sound just right in…
We like to think of ourselves as rational decision-makers who are persuaded to accept arguments and ideas on the basis of logical merit. This is laughably divergent from how things really work. The idea itself that humans are rational decision-makers has no basis in empirical observation; it is just some wishful…
Most of the work I am most excited to accomplish feels nebulous in nature. Maybe it's partially my level of current understanding (true expertise is abstraction/compression of complex ideas into mental models, frameworks, puns, analogies and stories), but living in the unknown is one of my most favorite feelings. In…
Cash is king. And sales brings in the cash. Prior to working for startups, I my broader education largely came from my MBA and following the "startup press" - i.e. the thought-leading founders and VCs who produce so much content about startups: blogs, Twitter, podcasts, etc. With some notable exceptions neither had…
Using a person's name in conversation is more than a simple courtesy; it's a powerful tool for building connection. It can foster a sense of familiarity and trust, particularly when meeting someone new. I've noticed that when others did it with me - the interaction feels much more engaging. Now, I am trying to make it…
People love to talk about themselves. They may be busy and difficult to get on the phone. But once you get them started, they are delighted to tell their life story. Use that to your advantage. -- If you haven't worked at a startup before, you probably have some idea in your head of what the experience will be like.…
I recently began working as an electrical apprentice under a Master Electrician. He's a Colombian immigrant with a work ethic that is simply staggering. He's up at 3:45 in the morning, goes to the gym, intermittent fasts, is at work by 7am, prays with his team and hits the road. He is calm, patient, neat and quiet and…
