to read or not to read
i'm starting to look down on people who don't read but at the same time i'm starting to worry if i'm reading too much?
i wonder if i'm missing out on living my REAL life whilst i read about people living theirs
i have a whole fucking routine of reading.
(1) reading a rotating lineup of books but also looking for new books to add to the roster so that i never run out
(2) reading while i brush my teeth
(3) reading between doing things that must be done
(4) reading in the cockpit to absorb the remaining bits of sun (today it was still quite warm out but tomorrow it will not be this way; and tomorrow i will do stainless steel work outside -- on the one hand i feel "LA rich" because i do yoga, live on the ocean, eat salads and read, ride my bike; on the other hand i'm like John-Steinbeck-real-American-man, doing stainless steel work)
(5) reading on the couch with the heater on and tea and cookies
lately i wonder what it means to "really" live my life. is it enough to do fun activities?
-yoga
-hanging out with friends
-biking around
-meeting new people
-reading (i'm suspicious of this one...does it count as "really living my life"?? i think it depends on the book)
-HAVING A FUCKING GOAL/DREAM AND GOING FOR IT!!! (my current goal/dream is to write but now that i read so much i don't actually know what to write anymore--it's like reading cured me of the neurosis which prompted me to write)
and why i look down on people who don't read:
i guess because i imagine most people either READ BOOKS or WATCH TV or SCROLL THE INTERNET. given those options, reading is the only one that isn't profane.
