Of broken clocks and activists
I have a love-hate relationship with most activists.
I admire those that fight for things they believe in, irrespective of personal recognition. But I detest the other kind. The loud ones that play attention-seeking status games shrouded in holier-than-though claims. I get irrationally triggered when I see them shilling their latest cause – mostly because they're annoying, but also because I know they'll drop it and move to the next one the moment the spotlight shifts.
However, I think I'm a bit of a hypocrite.
After all, even if these folks are being social media activists just for personal gain, occasionally they end up fighting for good causes. Even broken clocks are right twice a day. And in a society like ours where the political class routinely makes ridiculously selfish decisions, some activism is better than no activism.
So today, I want to apologize to those armchair activists whose content I've cringed over, sometimes publicly. Like a true hypocrite.
Thank you for your service. Keep at it. Society needs you, even if you're only useful twice a day.
