The break
What happens when the community and beliefs that helped shape our minds and lives start to fail us?
When the questions start to accumulate and remain unanswered or unacknowledged, a gap starts to form.
If we’re fortunate enough, the community recognizes this and starts building bridges.
If not, we’re forced to jump blindly or turn away.
Either way, distance is created between the person and a source of meaning and community they once held close.
For some, this distance is a breath of fresh air and opens us up to new experiences and ideas.
For others, it just leaves emptiness and longing.
I’m not sure why it must be black and white. Maybe it isn’t so much anymore. Maybe change has snuck in.
When the gap started to form I wish I had a bridge that would have kept me connected to people without being constrained by beliefs I could not hold to any longer.
Instead, it was judgment, fear, and anger.
Isolation.
What I wanted in that moment was community.
Acceptance.
What I got was a break.
