Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
After mulling it over for a couple of weeks, I made the change. I gave writers the option of adding a single image at the start of every Nicheless post. I'm not confident that it's the right move, but I'm eager to find out. If you're a writer here, I owe you an explanation. That's what this post is for. Firstly, let…
posts in the discover tab only shows posts from 2022, wonder if this platform is still active.
I was reading a post by one of the Nicheless users about how he became a Corporate Lawyer by fluke. This reminded me how life doesn't make sense if we look forward. But it makes sense when we look backward and connect all the dots. I started curating and writing a newsletter in October 2020. I didn't have any plans…
Some days, my brain can be a chaos of endless worries and scenarios that give me anxiety. These thoughts can be exhausting, but deep in my heart (very deep inside), I appreciate this aspect of my mind. It probably comes from my survival instinct, a part of me that is trying to anticipate and prepare for any possible…
There are times when I look at contact list in my phone and feel like talking to a couple of them without any agenda. But I am afraid today to do so. I could do it easily in my younger days when the only purpose of phone was calling; SMS and listening to music were additional features. I did it for years and it helped…
Never be stressful about relationships Even when the Grab driver is doing stupid things such as driving a bit to the front when you walk towards it - I don’t know what is his intentions but if I step forward and go forward and fight: it’s a waste of time. I will keep thinking about the negative points and I’ll be…
The title sounds cliched, but is so true. My current read, Four Thousand Weeks - Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman is peppered with gems in the first three chapters. Phrases like Stubborn Gladness, Bright Sadness and Sober Joy jump off the pages. These describe what a cancer survivor feels when they come…
The lucky ones among us get a chance to grow up with our families which in most likelihood have a parental figure or two to provide for our education, medical care and learning. The lucky ones, someone calls us the lucky ones and we don't believe it. How can we be the lucky ones? Everything is laid down for us - which…
reflect & manifest reverb23 in january adapts the reverb10 event shared about in this post - https://nicheless.blog/post/before-%7C-reverb-in-december-20 "... online initiative to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next ... an opportunity to reflect on what's happened, and to send out reverberations for the year…
One of the biggest productivity “hacks” that doesn’t get the attention it deserves is time blocking. Cal Newport has been detailing the benefits of time blocking for years. He even built a planner around it. If you are not currently managing your busy life with a calendar (any calendar!) then I cannot understand how…
There are many things you automatically do better at, if done a second time. For me, when writing a piece of software, I get it all wrong the first time. It may work, but I can see how the code could be written in a cleaner and more effective way. If I get the chance to do it over, the result is better, and it doesn’t…
We must spend and manage these well in order to achieve our best experience of life. Time is the toughest as once we spend it we cannot get it back, so we must cautious in how we spend it. This is a difficult thing to do though, as we human beings love love. We love being loved and we love showing love, and one of the…
For five years, I had a hectic commute to and from college. I have used Mumbai locals for all of those five years because it was the fastest mode of transport. Conveniently, after I graduated, I did jobs that didn't require a commute that would tire me. However, I just started working at a new job and anticipate some…
It's the decisions that you made right? No matter consciously or subconsciouly - you put the water in the kettle for it to boil. You get back to your workstation and continue to work while waiting for the water to boil. Once the water is boiled: - You travel to the kettle and took the kettle and get back to your…
Is a mix of competency and warmth. Find the balance - you can’t be too friendly but don’t know anything at the same time. To have charisma you need competent And you need to radiate out with the right amount of body & language works (way of converse, thoughts, vocabs - language is the best way to exhibit & market…
ahh some ideas initially spark a lot of enthusiasm. now that same idea does not interest me, it lacks substance. the hard question to answer is do i continue to peruse the idea by giving it more substance? only if the idea to better it sparks stronger enthusiasm than the original idea. this would become a totally…
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi says flow is the secret to happiness. I agree. Not just because we were born in the same city (but not in the same country — Europe is fun like that sometimes). I feel great when I achieve a state of flow. There’s no self-doubt or bad ideas. Creative juices are flowing, and I lose my sense of…
ahhh dont let design go around in circles, indefinitely. it must stop at some point, when is that point...
I think the hardest thing I’ve had to do is to decide who to be as a creator. Helping others explore and develop their creativity felt much easier than developing my own. There is such joy in standing with another creative and helping them t o aim their creative arrows toward their desired target.…
One of the biggest news right now is the deepest image of the universe pictured by NASA through the newly developed James Webb Space Telescope. The picture shows hundreds of galaxies which could not earlier be captured by Hubble, NASA’s old telescope which has been replaced by the Webb. NASA’s website says that…
Nicheless seems neat enough. I look forward to seeing how it pans out in the community. I don’t really post on social media of any kind because so many posts and comments are just looking to be the next viral slam quote to make the rounds in their author’s respective echo chambers. I just avoid it for the most part or…
people want to have good intentions. and often, they do. but as with all things human, the reality is blurrier than that. we ourselves can be tricked by these intentions. disguised as selfless, acts of kindness can be like a shield from responsibility. how quickly we devolve from the purest aims to bitterness and…
On a recent trip with my friends, I asked them if they were ok telling me how much they were worth i.e. how much money they had in the bank. During the trip, I had skirted around the question by asking what their "number" was. But that evening, I just asked if they'd be ok telling me. I've been thinking a lot about…
Writing is something I enjoy doing. Not because it's easy. It's hard, so hard I always avoid it. But It gives me a sense of improvement or fulfillment. ever since I've read "How to take smart notes", I've been writing more and more, for myself. At one point, I wonder "why do I write?" To learn, to think better. So…
Over the past 20 years, we've gone from shipping software on CDs to instant updates on the web. Though, as with most things in engineering, it's only a tradeoff. Let's explore why. When it took months to prepare a release and literally ship it, teams took their time to make sure everything worked as expected. Mileage…
As much as it hurt a bit when I wrote the title for this piece a month and half ago, I also realise it sometimes takes time to form a thesis or coherent set of thoughts to say I think this is what I was after. I wrote a Substack articles on social apps 2 Septembers ago. I'd thought of these apps for about 1.5 years at…
I expect that someone in my family will be on Mars in the next 10 generations. After all, I'm part of a tribe that travels. My ancestors were constantly on the road, exploring opportunities for their next generation and the ones that come after. It's baked into my genes. But it presents a conundrum. What mindset,…
i'm getting in a cycle of - being afraid of running out of books that i'll consider a "favorite" book or a "five-star read" - frantically searching for books while i'm still reading - constantly reading like 4 books at the same time because i don't want my library loan to run out even tho i could easily renew a loan -…
Weird huh. They always say fall in love young. I did. And I screwed up. There must be something wrong me with me. I think I secretly enjoy the tragedy of a lost relationship. Sick I know. I'm just psychoanalyzing myself. All those years invested into relationships with nothing to show for it in the end. Just a broken…
Running around my neighborhood has made me bitter. I see piles of trash on the side of the road and I tell myself a story about people that don't care. I see more and trash and I feel more anger. What can I do? What control do I have? The same control I tell my kids that they have - I can only control myself. So I'm…
In one of the online communities I'm part of, I once saw on a guy's bio that he wrote: "Passionate about not making a mistake twice. Only new mistakes." I thought it was funny at first. It was like "yeah, that sounds cool". But then my mind thought it was interesting enough to save that memory long-term. And it's…
For a change, I'm not fishing for a topic in the river of my thoughts. I was thinking about the idea of feeling heard today. In fact, I got thinking about it when I first interned as a journalist. I spent most days in those two months running from pillar to post, attending press meetings, gathering 'newsbites' from…
When I was a sophomore in high school, I got pulled aside by my physics teacher after turning in a paper on the internal combustion engine. He asked me who wrote it. "Huh?", I responded, genuinely unsure of what to expect from this interaction. "This paper is far beyond the level of technical detail expected for your…
Thirty years ago, a mob brought down a mosque in a town I thought existed only in stories. I do not recall it's violent aftermath in Bombay. I was only eight, shielded from much that was frightening about our world. But, I remember the news of the bombs going off. Especially the one near the Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar.…
Another favorite Hebrewism, which translates literally to "living in a movie". It is used to indicate to one's interlocutor that he is so bound up in his own narrative that he has lost contact with external reality. It's a refreshing refrain from the inanity of the counter-claim, that reality is in fact socially…
Must I have a title here? What if a paragraph suffices? Does this site allow for microblogging? So many questions!
i think nicheless is the place where i slowly give shape to my becoming of a writer. see, all these years i have struggled to find my authentic voice. i have always found myself impersonating the style of the grandiose writers, philosophers or poets - depending upon whom i read last. there may have been elements of my…
think of me like a torch in your hand, a helping light. someone who helps you see through the dark tunnel. but not as someone who latches onto your wrist and pulls you through—without you seeing, without noticing the world as it rushes by. the tunnel is yours, not mine. we are in our own dark tunnels, carrying tools.…
My friend Shashish died on the 9th of January. We joined History honours in 1985. Sometime during the first few months of college, we became friends. With Shahid Imam, Amitabh Tripathi and Rohit Jha, we studied for exams together, smoking 25 paise Now cigarettes during our many breaks. He was smart, very smart. In our…
Adulthood is all about being with people you love. Away from home, Lost in a City of strangers, Getting introduced to a new world. It gets lonely in the Adulthood but the only way from here is finding your Community, friends, art, media. I find people complaining on twitter about being lonely and not able to make…

ahh my imagination has been sparked by a utopian concept by Superstudio. 'The Third City: New York of Brains' is a concept where a cube houses 10,000456 living brains so they can survive humanity's destruction. however i imagine what if humanity is never destroyed? we will be able to go visit this place, it would be…
i'm starting to like music that makes me feel the way that literature does ; i'm enjoying picturing things. i think my third eye is opening again (every psychic ever told me my third eye was closed and it's true; i couldn't even picture things when i was reading for a long time; but now i hella can and i prefer music…
Hoje é o aniversário do Ola, o meu marido.
I have realized that I have grown into a different style of traveling, normally we don't travel together with my family and the times my mom and I had traveled when I was a kid were mainly work trips, me walking around while my mom would be looking at products. Now that I'm older I have realized that this traveling…
