4. I am afraid to call friends without agenda.
There are times when I look at contact list in my phone and feel like talking to a couple of them without any agenda. But I am afraid today to do so. I could do it easily in my younger days when the only purpose of phone was calling; SMS and listening to music were additional features. I did it for years and it helped me build a dependable network of friends without being on social media. People still call me to connect with others in my school and college. Now I am hesitant to call friends.
Why have I changed? Why do I think that it’s creepy to call people without agenda? I have been committed for well over a decade and no longer chasing anyone. I have never thought myself as a creepy person even in my dating days. Neither did anyone respond to me in any undesired manner. So what has changed?
The phones have multiple meanings now. It fulfils many purposes and it varies from time of the day.
So have people changed, they are more conscious about applications today - each one is after their data and manipulating them in their own ways without coercion. With humans, does it get even more scary?
Or is it some guilt or prior experience that is deterring me? It is both.
The guilt brings back the memories; good ones - that started it all; the embarrassing one - the last of conversations.
There have been times when I friends did not call back knowing that I called without any agenda.
