Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
1/n My first Nicheless post. You know ... experimenting. One thing that I do not quite yet get is the word count of 300. The site very clearly reads; No fluff. Just 300 words. Each post has one (optional) image. Followed by a maximum of 300 words. Long enough as to allow for nuance. Short enough as to not bore your…
Blogs on what I learn or what appeals to me. Read on a topic over a single day and then write, unassisted (except for quotes), at the end of the day. The goal is to develop concise and coherent communication skills. Feel free to drop a text if you have something more to offer on a topic. Let's see where we get with…
My friend Rahul and I recently exchanged messages praising the 1977 Fleetwood Mac album Rumours, particularly Lindsey Buckingham's gorgeous guitar in Never Going Back Again. Which reminded me of how I started building my CD collection. It was 1989 and I'd just arrived in New York as a student with no cash to spare. I…
You generally feel that you must have that urge constantly to create something which needs to be useful and meaningful for the majority of the humanity and/or your customers. Yet it's just your boring job with daily mundane tasks. You feel stuck and cannot find a space to move further or expand your knowledge. Hence…
O título do texto anterior ficou estranho.
I just watched a great movie about Franz Kafka, a famous German writer. What particularly struck me was the way he used words and language - so precise, so articulate, so aesthetic. There is a lot of untapped potential in our everyday use of language to express our thoughts and feelings.
I’m a big advocate of making the most out of the cards you’re dealt. Take what you have in the current moment and start fixing things. Slowly but surely, and within a reasonable timeframe, you’ll get what you want — or at least you’ll be 2X or 10X better than when you first started. Even if don't get what you want, or…
I am wondering what it takes to be all right today or on other days. Yesterday — or maybe two yesterdays ago — I was unsteady. I woke up and the breaths didn't want to escape my lungs through my mouth or their proper airways. I realize what was calling to me wasn't the mortal drag of my eventual drop to the ground.…
one of the nicest things about being a hospital for over 5 hours is the kind of people you meet. note that when i say 'meet' i don't mean small talk, making new friends type of meeting - i mean instances where you start recognising another's face and when they smile at you, you smile back. those type of interactions…
Last night, Erik, Seb and I went to Erik’s favorite restaurant. He’d been wanting to go because last time we went, he had some potato wedges off of Seb’s plate and declared them the best potato wedges in the universe. (He’s also the type to say “do you mind if I take a little bite of your sandwich?” I love his lack of…
It seems like someone disagrees with the previous poster: === anon2080 Don't let the naysayers fool you. The Art Symposium was a success and will benefit all artists in the region. The government's role is not to dictate what kind of art should be produced or consumed but to provide the resources and support that…
It only takes a second for your routine to be thrown off. Lightning hit our TV. It was our only TV. We don’t watch TV that much. It’s a nice way to wind down at the end of the day. We enjoy sports (it’s baseball season!). We love old movies. With no TV what will we do? Lucky for me, I have other pastimes. I am not…
Growth is a function of experimentation; when you stop testing new ways of doing things, you stop growing. -Omar Itani I was waiting in a coffee shop when I discovered Itani’s newsletter, “The Optimist.” The above quote jumped out at me. Newly retired, I was in the coffee shop, optimistically experimenting with ways…
When smartphones are invented and we start using them a lot, people always say that the next generation growing up on smartphones will be less smart. Because they don't have time to ponder. But it's been 16 years since Steve invented the iPhone, are we seeing a dumber generation? That would be easy to identify.…
I get on a writing jags. I am in one now. It exercises an important muscle that has a profound effect on every facet of my life. Communication: documentation, emails, texts, Slack! Clearly stating and articulating what it is that I know, seek to know, or need to move forward is a super power. At work I write RFCs for…
What is a model for radical honesty, and how can we communicate it in a way that others understand both our actions and their role in them? Consider a quadrant with "benefit to self" and "benefit to others" as its cornerstones. The opposite side consists of losses to oneself and others. Examining this model, what…
L. Frank Baum’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which appeared in 1900, is often held to be a parable for the Populist campaign of William Jennings Bryan, who twice ran for president on the Free Silver platform—vowing to replace the gold standard with a bimetallic system that would allow the free creation of silver…
Focusing on work can be quite a challenge when your brain is racing like a little engine. More and more thoughts and desires try to derail your workflow. How can you catch those thoughts, suspend distractions, and transform valuable ideas into something productive when they keep coming? Having a solid plan and…
As I see myself on pictures I’m not happy with how I look. I been self aware that i’m a big boy and have been all my life, only take action as if was seasonal work and don’t commit to myself. Looking at this picture really makes me reflect a lot on my bad habits and how I’m really just poisoning myself.. I don’t have…
Storytelling is one of the oldest pastimes. Growing up you look forward to hearing stories from your parents or grandparents. Once we grow up, we enjoy stories through various mediums like books, movies, TV shows, oral accounts, news, etc. This led me to think, what is the best way to experience a story? What would…
There are three conditions which often look alike Yet differ completely, flourish in the same hedgerow: Attachment to self and to things and to persons, detachment From self and from things and from persons; and, growing between them, indifference Which resembles the others as death resembles life, Being between two…
In my 4th decade I realize that 40s is the real inflection point in our lives - few reflections. 1. Curiosity: Whether getting lost in encyclopedia during my younger days to now reading up about cars. Somewhere during the Social Media era, my curiosity had become perfomative, I caught this bug of sounding…
aren't you afraid, that you'll get so good at controlling your emotions, that you'll become impervious to pleasure?
It frustrates me to watch debates that descend into whataboutery. And if images speak louder than words, I hope the one above manages to drown out a bunch of pointless arguments. --- Whataboutery is a tactic used by people who know exactly what they're doing – intentionally distorting the public's perception of…
It is difficult to think where you’ll be at any point in the future. Things don’t always go to plan. So, what is the point of setting goals? On our default path (ie. 9 to 5 job - thanks Paul Millerd) we are asked to make targets or objectives relative to what we know today. What we think we’ll want to tomorrow. But we…
They say a camel is what you get when you try to design a horse by committee. What do you get when you try to govern by committee? The main idea of democracy is that the state should embody the will of the majority, restrained by a set of laws that protect the rights of individuals. Democracy makes no substantive…
I feel that verbal (and even nonverbal) communication is the most important thing for all beings! But it seems, that such capability deteriorates, becomes empty, or (and) false. Not only in hackneyed phrases of politicians or some of journalists, but generally... What about to discuss about possible reasons?
Since the beginning of the web, people have been making personal websites. But when someone makes a personal website, it is forever an exhibition to the public and cannot truly be a private, authentic space. Recently, the concept of a “digital garden” has become popular. It’s like a personal website but welcomes a…
Ah! the speed of our world does not sync with our concept of time. most experience time at a different pace to others and is relative to their context. there is an exception though, find the person who shares your speed. because with them the context of time become irrelevant...
Today is so much more than yesterday Today made yet another tomorrow. Today can forgive Today can relive Or just love and forget all of last night's sorrow Today can be different or just another whistle, a name given to a former ride Today can be wild Today can be a lie YOU GET TO CHOOSE (you really really do) The…
For a long time now I have had an idea in my mind that seemed almost impossible. Poetic in execution and artistic value, one where an echo may only speak the last thing it hears. It's a satisfying feeling to find the right person, now making the idea more possible. The future looks bright for this idea to flourish...
The founder of this blog wrote a couple of days ago that Nicheless had found a couple of niches of its own as follows: "(1) Content creators who use it to publish content outside their niche. (2) Other creative people who use it as a low pressure environment to publish their thoughts." There's perhaps a third niche -…
I took this picture last year as we were walking on our way to the Mukteshwar Temple in Uttrakhand. The pathway leading to the temple was full of vendors selling their farm produce. Many emphasized the fact that these products were grown organically without the use of pesticides, which was the main reason we stopped…
I have worked at a dozen companies and every company has its own culture. By the way you may wonder how does a company have it's own culture. Culture is all about how people treat one another i.e. how do peers interact, how do superiors interact with their subordinates and the list goes on. If you take a company which…
Feel the pain. Look for the silver lining. Feed a distraction. Journal the thoughts. Blame not yourself. Think of the other times you’ve gotten over things. This too shall pass.
I am going to tell her. I feel the emotions flowing all over without the conversation happening yet. But this is the time. And this is the time because yesterday reminded me of why I need to do this: I don't want to feel proud of much I can drink, or think it's awesome that over people drink a lot, or that normalizing…
I own a KZ750E - the four cylinder. Every now and then I try to convince myself that I do not need another motorcycle - but I mostly fail. I have narrowed it down to being a parallel twin. But I have a hard time deciding. Today I will share the research I did today between the three mentioned in the headline. My main…
Today I submitted my thesis and fully enjoyed life afterwards. Cooking great food, laying in the sun, kayaking in the lake, enjoying the sunset next to the water, going into a woodfired sauna - I kind of understand now, why Finnish people are the happiest in the world.
Its 16/Apr/2023 I have entered a weird patch in life where I dont know what I feel. I am turning 25 and that's not making anything better. Its been more than half a year I escaped an extremely abusive family and the trauma still lingers on. Too broke to have a therapist. It feels horrible, I feel like I am fighting…
Species, amongst other things, are defined by their niche. The environment they interact with defines the trajectory of their evolution. You notice a tradeoff between specialization and flexible adaptability. Typically, to dominate a particular niche, a species must specialize. The Environment Confines and Refines.…
I need to recognize that taking decisions is one of the worst things for me. I like what Shubham said - do things that you can which are in your control and hope for the best. I am finding it very difficult to take a decision. And I think the reason I struggle so much with it is because I: 1. strongly fear the blame…
Walk around. And conceive the best things Because really; it wouldn’t make sense if you try to think “you’re special”. The fact is probably you’re not - it takes hard work to build confidence and real talent/effort into doing certain things well. It wouldn’t makes sense if there are 2000 years of mankind history And…
We are the patient-zero generation for a lot of things that were, safe to say, uncommon practices even a decade and a half ago. When Walt Whitman said, “The future is no more uncertain than the present”, he implied that while what is to come is hard to tell. It is equally hard to understand the consequences of our…
Micro habits are important for creators. They build muscle memory to ship things faster. In my opinion, two foundation habits are - writing and reading. Atomic writing is a forcing function to reduce fluff. A path to clear thinking. But more importantly, It's a small bet that reduces inhibition in sharing. It gets you…
I took off my bracelet i recently made, in the night, whilst asleep and must have set it in another dimension because it's not reappeared yet today. This is reason to clean my room. Which I'm not happy about. Executive function is not a strong force in me.
