XS650 vs. KZ750 twin vs. T140
I own a KZ750E - the four cylinder. Every now and then I try to convince myself that I do not need another motorcycle - but I mostly fail.
I have narrowed it down to being a parallel twin. But I have a hard time deciding. Today I will share the research I did today between the three mentioned in the headline.
My main motivation for acquiring a parallel twin is to have more torque down low. I like the KZ750 for its mid- and high end power. But at low rpm it is lacking. And having owned it for some years, that is where I find myself driving most of the time.
I then did some research on the XS650 vs. KZ750B vs. T140. Those are the bikes that I have my mind set on currently. The Triumph for being the most sexy choice - but I am unsure about reliability. I really like to drive my bikes. The XS650 for being the Triumph with less sex-appeal but more reliability. And finally the KZ750 twin for being the odd one out.
Today I researched their horsepower and torque figures and way quite surprised. I had heard that the KZ750B had a good amount of torque and that the XS650 needed more revs to deliver its power. But I was very surprised to find the numbers:
KZ750B:
55HP @7000
60NM @3000
XS650:
54HP @7200
54NM @6800
T140E:
54HP @6200
57NM @5500
Those numbers for the KZ750B are incredible. 60NM already at 3000rpm that motor must feel strong everywhere. What is also quite apparent is the high-revving nature of the XS650. Maximum torque at 6800 - that is high for a parallel twin.
On paper the KZ750B wins this one. But the Triumph is still the most sexy! Perhaps I can make it reliable?
