Everywhere I go, I see kids using phones
When smartphones are invented and we start using them a lot, people always say that the next generation growing up on smartphones will be less smart.
Because they don't have time to ponder.
But it's been 16 years since Steve invented the iPhone, are we seeing a dumber generation?
That would be easy to identify.
However, what's harder to identify is how the access of cheap dopamine is causing us all.
I did not grow up with a smartphone. But I see kids now, some not even 2 years old, addicted to phones. Many parents allow their kids to watch shows and play games while they eat.
I've tried not using any form of social media, and there were times it's suffocating. I felt like I had to find something to do or watch.
That's the withdrawal effects of easy dopamine.
It was at that time that I realized how access to easy dopamine has changed how I experience life.
The good news is, I can change that too, in a few days. I see my focus and attention span slowly improving as I ween off social media.
It's not that I'd never use it again. It's just that I'll be more conscious when I go back at it.
I'm no scientist. But I believe that the access to cheap dopamine has changed us forever.
