Video games might be the best way to experience a story
Storytelling is one of the oldest pastimes. Growing up you look forward to hearing stories from your parents or grandparents. Once we grow up, we enjoy stories through various mediums like books, movies, TV shows, oral accounts, news, etc.
This led me to think, what is the best way to experience a story? What would make it truly enjoyable for everyone?
Picture what it would be like to talk to someone about your favorite novel, especially if they don't read books. How difficult it would be for them to appreciate it as much as you do, to experience it like you do.
Is there a way for everyone, regardless of their experience or interest in a certain medium, to enjoy a story the same way?
Video games may be the answer.
Combining visual and auditory storytelling with interactive elements that let you experience things from the characters' perspective, they literally put you in the character's shoes. Add to that accessibility options that games offer like colorblind assistance, audio/visual cues for the differently-abled and you've got a story that a wide range of audience can enjoy.
Most people watch movies or TV shows, but these mediums depict a story a certain way or through a director's own perspective. Often times movie adaptations of books are less than faithful of their source because the director wanted it to be a certain way. Other times you don't like how a certain character was killed off or dealt with in a movie/TV series. With games (some of them at least) you can choose the outcome, choose who lives or dies, and make your own story.
Everyone gets to enjoy games how they want to and still experience amazing stories, without being limited to just one person's vision or imagination.
