Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Why do I need to confirm myself into the system Trying to lie to myself I need to be one of the guys I passed by everyday in the public transportation Remind myself that Theres people who believe in what they do S T Always remind yourself to do important things Once you set your mindset to the goal You’ll align…
Priya, my wife, has turned 41 today, and I wanted to take a moment to pen down what she means to me and record my gratitude to her presence in my life. Soulmate is defined as a mate with whom you share your soul. Acknowledging how much she feeds my soul, she fits the moniker of a soulmate technically, rather than just…
3. writing -- i have so many things to say and no one to say them to, so i write. i say i have no one to talk to not because i literally have no friends or acquaintances but because when talking, one needs to consider the interests of one's conversation partner, and it is exhausting to limit oneself to topics which…
A simple answer is - because I want to learn how to do things in and around a website. A no-code website of growcket will be a playground for me to experiment and practice a lot of things like: 1. SEO - How can I rank my website higher than existing ones. 2. Content - Practice of writing. 3. Insights - What type of…
For years, I spent my Saturday morning grocery shopping for the week. My workweek routine drove my weekend routine. Now I’m retired. I’m very routine-driven. I would need to prepare my list early. This required a change in thinking. I saw an advantage. If my granddaughter came to spend the night, grocery shopping…
My parents video call me everyday. It could sound like I am complaining but that's not it. I like that they do. Most days I do pick up the call regardless of if I am out, at a party or at a friend's place. Usually, the conversation goes as follows- where are you (when I'm out) did you eat? what's happening? what else…
This is by far the most important and most difficult lesson I've learned over the past years. I'm still getting better at it more and more but it's not easy. The whole gist of it is that you should do what you have to do at the time that you have to. Sounds pretty simple but you'd be hard pressed to find someone out…
grab a bottle of omega-3 and, as you take out one serving size, say "do you want some?" without further explanation
I recently came across Anna Lembke's content on YouTube & tapped into my hitherto latent interest in the neurochemistry of pain and pleasure. Fun fact: pleasure & pain circuits in the brain are co-located, i.e., the same part of the brain processes both pain and pleasure. Anyway... I had often caught myself…
i just read an article about forks being the least famous and favoured utensil compared to its mates knives and spoons. it's not even about the topic that intrigues me. it's about knowing this fact now when it already feels so natural for us to use this thing, like it is an extension of our body when we eat. however,…
It’s been several years since I made the decision to bid farewell to my excess body fat. My journey towards a more active lifestyle began during those days. Prior to that, the thought of being physically active didn’t interest me much. Simply walking to the subway or bus station and occasionally taking a taxi…
In the debate over freedom of expression with regard to blasphemy, I find it absurd when the argument is made, usually in response to some Muslim fanatic going on a murder rampage, that "well Christians try to censor expression too." I just don't think there exists a reasonable argument to be made that there is any…
Gil Scott-Heron wrote a powerful poem in 1970, and recorded it into a song – ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’, during the Black Power Movement. Link - shorturl.at/begHU Some references used will send us down wonderful rabbit holes. I went down a few myself, and got curious about how a modern-day version would…
All things and beings that exist are born from the vastness of the universe, shaped from its matter, yet we wander through life believing ourselves to be independent, everlasting souls, existing within but separate from the very cosmos from which we were created. This illusion of separatedness is the mind’s deception,…
Know what others have that you don’t have. Don’t focus on what they don’t have. Focus on what will benefit you I want you to - Take accountability of things you didn’t DO Rather than trying to delay using time To do it NOW And not doing it - that’s the difference between success and stagnant Doesn’t matter if you…
I want you to know I mean the things I say. But how can you When the things I say Are the things I am expected to say Whether I mean them or not?
As I currently sit on the rooftop of my co-living community, I’m reflecting on what I’m grateful for during the past year here. One of the most beautiful experiences has been witnessing how everyone contributes something unique to the community based on what they love and who they are. I’m constantly trying to push…
I realized I’m not a social creature with moments of solitude, I’m a solitary being with social contact. But I miss people I’ve lost contact with. Perhaps because goodbye is the de facto way now, I experience it too much.
You imagine some futuristic tall pointy structures that go into the clouds, like the Sky Tower in the movie Oblivion [0] But I realised recently that many of us, including myself, are already living in the sky. Over the past few years, I lived in a house on the 33rd floor and worked in an office on the 5th. I spend…
how come most people (me included) can name Lewis Caroll off the top of their heads but cannot name J.M. Barrie, when Peter Pan is just as iconic as Alice in Wonderland? I've never read Peter Pan and now I want to. I put on my winter scrunchie, a red tie, and I feel like Wendy now. How many Alice in Wonderlands are…
I think this is such a good outlook and it's something to catch yourself on. A specific example. I went to see The Batman a few months ago and I've had lots of people ask me what I thought about it. I said that I thought it was good, but I said that I had seen it before. Corrupt cops, a mob that runs the city, good…
I am realizing that storytelling is a soft skill that I should have learnt early in my career. Storytelling is one craft that gives a positive spin to the most useless work. It can also turn the most beautiful work into a hot garbage.
Recently, the Indian Supreme Court deferred the decision on mandating a policy for menstrual leaves for women to the Central Government. This raises a critical question: At the current stage of India's growth journey, what's more important? 1. Bringing more women into the workforce? 2. Ensuring the best workplace…
i've been doing this: (1) reading until my brain can't take any more words [currently reading fitzgerald and thomas bernhard; loving both] (2) music a lot of music (3) write repeat that's my fun routine. my unfun routine is boat work. ha.
Happy holloween, a day to entertain our hearts with exciting fright and terror. Humans are weird. I think I mispelled a word or two, probably more as I go write along, but hey, who says I can't be dumb on a spooky day. I habitually nervously scratch my nose as I gather and piece together my scattered thoughts. Do I…
Our friends say they’ve experienced a lot of goodbyes and they used to not bother even saying hello until they learned that there’s a possibility you see each other again and that possibility makes the hello and intermittent goodbyes worthwhile. But there are many people I miss who I will never see again. The feeling…
I've spent so much time in one mode of living (ie the aspirant mode) that something else feels foreign and alien, something abnormal and even wrong. I crave the familiarity, the structure, the discipline of the routine. I crave the sense of purpose it provides. Yet I must also begin to understand that living in just…
The times, they are changing. We're in transition mode between a decade long bull run, and a recession that will last for who knows how long. If you stay quiet and listen carefully, you'll hear the pessimists collectively chant "I told you so". I don't blame them. They only get to be right once a decade. Meanwhile,…
Call me A.S.J. Just turned 16. Dont expect some Shakespeare words in my blog.I mostly use this like a digital diary when i have a shitty day or im going through smth. My interest -linkin park -cry of fear -afraid of monsters -nu-metal -playing musical instrument (guitar & piano) -video games -midnight -silence -music…
Following on from my last post, I believe anthropology can provide ways to avoid future Techlashes. The focus for today is on "reflexivity", a concept that gained ground in anthropology in the 70s in the works of scholars such as Paul Rabinow, James Clifford and George Marcus. Reflexivity means both: a) considering…
honestly, i'm not even sure if it's a skill to have, but two underrated skills are longevity (or persistence) and focus. first let's start with longevity. i was listening to a david dobrik's podcast a few days ago and he was saying that he didn't really speak to any friends he made in his first year in LA. not because…
Every time something bad happens to me i always think about how i could have avoided it had i known all the intricacies of the problem. I think i wish i consulted people apriori. As it is often said hindsight is the best insight. Another perspective to this is had i known all the intricacies would i be putting myself…
"Figuring it out". This has been my go-to mindset for the last 3years. I am someone who thought going to college was useless, to now regretting not experiencing the college life. Now I feel I could have explored a lot. I am someone who started my Chartered Accountacy Course, because my parents told me to, even though…
Do you push yourself to learn new skills? I’m exploring new skills in writing and art. My writing exploration is in its third year. I write essays and short memoir pieces on three different platforms. I also journal. There is so much to learn and so many ideas to try. I recently added art to my exploration. I’ve…
To Jiang Wei & Bryan: don’t just think of yourself: 下次跟你们抽, 我现在赶时间 If you reroute it same destination but different feels: 我回来再跟你们抽 我刚好要meet 朋友; 这个可以让他们好回 因为你让他们开心,所以他们也不会 因为你的不开心而不让你开心 The most topnotch about emotional intelligence: people care about you because you care about them; and also you have that aura ✨ and…
There were few mass shootings in the US over last couple of days and this got me thinking what could be the root causes of such a hideous act of crime. The incidents were given different names such as - gun violence, hate crime, domestic terrorism, white supremist attack etc. based on which media outlet you consume…
https://winnielim.org/journal/where-i-can-take-off-my-mask/ This one feels so like my life except I didn't have that social medium to share things up until now. Really thinking of making this place my own. Hope I can stay consistent with it.
I wish I had followed up on my previous post. Now I completely forgotten what part 2 was suppose to be. So I have this Part 1.5 as an update for myself. We now have rumours and hints that Cortex X4, on 3nm may be able to get 15% Clock Speed increase, and possibly 15% or 20% IPC increase. On a 15%/15% increase that…
We often look to this quote with fondness and admiration. We often use this quote to inspire and motivate. For a new skill. For a promotion. For a healthier lifestyle. Yet we are often baffled and surprised when we see the other side of the same coin. The ugliness of how negative small changes can add up too. For…
People often say running trains the body. For me, it trains the mind. When I first started, I thought it was all about fitness, endurance, calories, pace. But after a few runs, I realized the hardest part wasn’t my lungs or my legs, it was convincing myself to keep going. Every step became a small argument between the…
ahh "an artwork is a pure idea attached to an existing rationale. an artwork for the art world is any idea attached to an invoice." quote by Virgil Abloh. the above quote resonates with me recently because the conversation around NFT art can easily fit into the category of any idea attached to an invoice. yet there…
(original: 2007 Aug 17) fill in the blank with a word or phrase ... Here we go: 1. My favorite childhood toy was ... jacks. 2. My favorite childhood game was ... red rover. 3. The best movie I ever saw as a kid was ... willy wonka & the chocolate factory. 4. I don't do it much but I enjoy ... bowling. 5. If I could…
What enters your mind when you hear ‘the perfect storm’? Negative, unpredictable factors coming together to cause a catastrophe? My friend, Andy Sporring, recently wrote an essay about how a “perfect storm” of events can have negative or positive effects. After reading his essay, I immediately thought of one of my…
A rule I like to use when deciding how to behave is to imagine myself from another person’s point of view. Would I engage with myself if I saw myself doing that, or being that way? It’s a way to get feedback without needing anybody else, and although not ideal, it’s a good place to start. Recently, I’ve been wanting…
it's been a while. i'm again reminded of the power of seasons as I come up for air after another whirlwind summer. time to slow down, reflect, and reset. I love this phase, like I loved the last. but winter in particular always feels a bit like mourning. removing another layer of habits, insecurities, outdated beliefs…
Since the Supreme Court of the United States has punted Roe v. Wade back to a State issue, there has been debate and effort about explicitly protecting the right to abortion at the state or federal level. This issue is also touched upon by many governments worldwide. However, there is a more fundamental right…
What if we stuff Samosa with Kachori stuffing and vice versa. Which one would you call Samosa now? Is Samosa a Samosa because of its shape or how Intel says 'Look Inside'. Similarly, what makes us humans? Faltu baatein apart, Could someone please experiment with stuffing kachori with samosa stuffing and blah blah and…
