Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
(original: 2010 August 03) i connect dots. random? NO. shuffling around of dots? ALWAYS. including people? YES. mindmapping in motion ... i often find myself connecting events, information, people, and activities that seem unrelated to some but are (or should be) related. back in 1995, i called it POE's Corner -…
Sometimes I get a rush of motivation for studying, even if it’s a subject I don't necessarily like. I enjoy the process and the feeling of learning. However, when I start to feel the weight of others’ expectations about my performance or results, that spark of motivation quickly fades. It’s strange because many people…
You should say something that’s secretive That has a chapter 2 To hold conversations Is not to speak whatever’s on your mind But to pull others head towards your “mysterious and many other missing details” stories. To hold converse is to leading the words on Not spilling everything out cos some people might not be…
While still in the early pages of reading the book- Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman, something deeply poignant came through. Time as a unit of measure, is a relatively new phenomena. Watches and clocks arrived to help us become more productive and achieve more in a 24 hour time frame. Several authors have…
When was the last time did you try or buy some thing out of your own curiosity or without any feedback? Must have been a very very long time i am sure. Today for everything and anything we have an app and someone would have written a feedback about the product or the service which you want to buy or try. This has made…
Curiosity Motivates. And when it’s satiated, the motivation dissipates. Motivation is a minor fuel injection — it simply helps course correct. It’s what the coach uses in the locker room to bolster the team for the second half. It's the climax for the movies. It's cinematic. But it doesn’t sustain. Follow through is…
the act of cooking alone fills my appetite, I guess I'd been picturing eating it so much that I got full is this true also of sex and love? that the thought of sex fills you such that you have no more room for love? i made tom yum soup and realized that the secret is a ton of lime juice this is the "essence" of tom…
The first "fact" that I learnt in childhood was "the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Our day lies in these two extremes. The window of observation between these two extremes is underrated. As the sun swim towards the west, it paints the world around us in multiple strokes of extravagance. From the pesky…
Comportado, bonito e brilhante. Estávamos todos…
i noticed that sometimes i am prone to self-deluding untruths. i have observed primarily two types of lies: (1) "i will do xyz" and i do not end up doing xyz (and this task has nothing to do with difficulty of achievement; if i wanted to do it, i would've done it. it is always something trivial) (2) "i am so excited…
My clinic has been objectively doing well. Two of my fellow chiefs reached out to me to ask the secret to our success. I attributed our success to: a)Size b)stability c)Culture d)tools For size, we are small and when you look at the performance of the small vs. the large clinics, small wins. For stability, no other…
Make sure you have support when you're about to Quit Something. You may want a friendly presence while you're navigating the unfamiliarity of a new identity - the You After The Quitting. You may want help while you re-orient yourself among the bewilderment of others who would rather you didn't Quit the Thing. And…
Every self contains multitudes. It can be helpful to sort these elements of self into defined parts. This can help you conceptualise these competing and contradictory bits of you. One distinction that’s been super helpful to me is the child and parent, the maiden and knight, the experiencer and the agent. Separating…
Today we had some memorable encounters with animals we met along the way - one of them was with a herd of highland cows. As we played classical music, they approached us, each displaying unique behaviors - some bold and curious, others hesitant and cautious. Each animal, like us, has a life filled with feelings and…
We’re meeting more and more. Our calendars are full of it. But why is our hearts empty? The more I’m glued to my screen, listening to faceless voices, the less I understand. Why am I here?
coming from the fertile goddess that is indonesia -- where you spit on the ground and your saliva grows into a giant beanstalk -- back to the arid desert that is italy, i'm thinking: why are we deforesting biodiverse gems of the earth? why don't we farm more seriously in barren places like most of the "1st world"?…
Everybody knows that the quickest way to kill a hobby is to turn it into a profession, i.e., to get paid to do it. A hobby is an activity performed for its own sake. The reward is the pleasure derived from performing the activity itself, generally accompanied by some progression of technical or artistic skill over…
Using a person's name in conversation is more than a simple courtesy; it's a powerful tool for building connection. It can foster a sense of familiarity and trust, particularly when meeting someone new. I've noticed that when others did it with me - the interaction feels much more engaging. Now, I am trying to make it…
For many years, the river apologized for its banks. Whenever it flooded, it apologized. Whenever it changed course, it apologized. Whenever it carried away a bridge built carelessly across its body, it apologized. The villages grew accustomed to this. They spoke of the river as though it were a servant. They drew maps…
Tried weights to stretch my ears for the first time. They seem to work very well. I’m trying to get back to 38mm like I had a few years ago. I went from 32mm to 35mm with this first time using the two 32g weights. I think I’m going to stay at this size for awhile and let my ears get use to it before I try moving up…
I love exploring - it may be a new experience, a food place, a new tool, or a new hangout place. This time I am exploring a new tool - Nicheless. Let's see how this exploration goes. Until next time!
Do you ever do that thing where you see someone out and about who’ve never seen before, but they look a little bit like someone you recognise. Anyway you’ve only seen their face for a second but not long enough to remember it and because it looks slightly like someone’s face you know, your brain fills in the…
I created my account in hopes to improve my daily writing. However I've noticed only posts are from 2022. Hello world? edit I have discovered the search bar - HELLO WORLD!
I have stepped foot on the hamster wheel, constantly running, keeping things in motion—the act of creation and destruction. In my case, my online persona. Just now, I discovered this blogging site, on my umpteenth attempt to write some sorry excuse of a blog which I will be deleting once again, just like the others I…
i remember going to war once. the air smelled of burnt flowers and chemical dreams. the ghosts of my past made a mountain of bodies besides a wrecked house. inside, my mother was wiping off her tears as she made my favorite breakfast. father was dreaming of his aged self. you're on your own, soldier. just a few more…
As a baby your nervous system isn't fully developed yet. When you feel stress, you need touch. Real touch, soft, slow, friendly, safe touch. You're held by a caring being much larger and stronger than you. The gentle motion and smiling face is comforting to you. You feel the stress ebbing away. As you grow older and…
Ever heard this saying, “God helps those who help themselves”? I don’t know who came up with this but it is not in the bible. If everyone can help themselves, they won’t seek God.
Rambling is what I do more than talking only to realise that talking is no more than censoring your rambling and picking out the best variation of a collection of words. The more you talk the better you get at picking out the best words and that is considered normal. The art of filtering your ramble is talking. All of…
i am a temporary software developr my code is written is compiled but never commited i forget it the binary exists but its not mine anymore it's someone elses
Priya, my wife, has turned 41 today, and I wanted to take a moment to pen down what she means to me and record my gratitude to her presence in my life. Soulmate is defined as a mate with whom you share your soul. Acknowledging how much she feeds my soul, she fits the moniker of a soulmate technically, rather than just…
When you’re young it’s okay to make mistake Just be brave to get it back up And learn from it Be brave to dream And do what it is that you wanted to do What’s most matter (especially shown in Asian male context) Is your ability and the knowledge you leveraged against others It’s a game of either you know or don’t…
I like how Nicheless just has this whole, "I am a blank page and I dare you to write something on me," vibe to it.
300 words sits above the atomic essay "limit" 1. repost ship30 essays === this place encourages publishing (people will see it) yet hides the vanity metrics (likes) whether strangers stumble upon or known friends come to learn 2. sandbox for quick thoughts benefit of getting writing out of head bonus if you get…
Giving a talk to 3rd and 4th years next Monday about the challenges and opportunities of tech industry. Discovered Nicheless and am very curious to see the types of expression and community available here over time.
That is life these days. The moles keep popping up. I’m knocking them down but not at the pace that feels sustainable to keep them at bay. So, time to figure out how to kill the moles before they’re out of control.
I love just how quiet this interface is.
After I revisited Richard Siken's wonderful poem 'Birds hover the trampled field', I wrote a lot in my Google docs. I didn't 'get it' the first time I read it, which must be about three or four years ago by now, but I didn't have to get it. I let the meaning of it develop in my mind unconsciously without trying to…
Hi, I’ve received my blissclub offer. Congratulations to me. Unfortunately, it has only served to make me ridiculously anxious and nervous about the decision. However, I have realised. You will always start out being bad at something. And then as you put more time, you’ll get better at it. You might even begin…
A short one about an interesting sliding doors moment. Louis Menand’s 2021 review in the New Yorker of Glenn Frankel’s “Shooting Midnight Cowboy: Art, Sex, Loneliness, Liberation, and the Making of a Dark Classic” contained a brilliant tidbit. It's believed that a key element contributing to the mood of Midnight…
Age appropriate things for me now include ''Temple Hopping'' and getting immense joy from that experience! Who would have thought? Early part of this year, my sister and I set off on a beautiful Friday to explore some wonderful places of worship in aamchi Mumbai! Bright and early, we rendezvoused at 6:30 am at…
it's better to spend time alone than to be bored by people. after the norwegians left, i haven't really enjoyed hanging out with other people our age because all they want to talk about is BOAT PROJECTS and i sit there thinking about how they're wasting my time and how i wish i could go read and write but when you're…
If my body had a group chat during a run, it would be pure chaos. Legs: “We’re tired.” Brain: “We literally just started.” Lungs: “Who approved this pace?” Heart: “Guys, chill. We’re fine.” Stomach: “No, we’re not. That banana was a mistake!” By kilometer two, everyone’s arguing. Legs threaten to leave the chat. Brain…
Emerson wrote, “It is a great terror to be known.” We are terribly scared of the only thing that we want the most. Mostly because we don’t know what looking within is like. Most of us forget ourselves. Most of us never remember to walk to ourselves. We are enormously afraid of knowing our own self. Its easier to never…
A serious daily journaler may have an extensive journaling routine. Three morning pages? They take 30 minutes or more, depending on writing/typing speed. A multiple-component journaling routine? My routine takes 20 to 45 minutes consisting of the following: gratitude, intent for the day, sometimes I need an…
