farming
coming from the fertile goddess that is indonesia -- where you spit on the ground and your saliva grows into a giant beanstalk -- back to the arid desert* that is italy, i'm thinking: why are we deforesting biodiverse gems of the earth? why don't we farm more seriously in barren places like most of the "1st world"?
IDEAS: vertical farming, hydroponics, regular ol' farming
why don't we all become local farmers and stop burdening people in "3rd world countries" with our need for produce?
and someone figure out something regarding mining
*arid desert: Italy is actually considered rather advantageous for farming, as far as europe goes, I think? but it is just SAD compared to the tropics. there is no biodiversity here it's basically just citrus and tomato
i feel we should leave biodiverse places mostly alone and should place more responsibility on our local municipalities. it is honestly a WASTE cutting down forests in indonesia to leave space open in places like italy -- there is nothing going on here. there are many things i think you could probably grow here with vertical farming.
also everyone is obsessed with growing meat from plant cells (yawn) but no one is working on growing mangosteen or lychees?
that shit is so expensive in the west bc it's imported from asia (so it tastes like stale old farts by the time it gets to the store). why don't we figure this shit out?
