Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Have been wanting to cultivate a daily journaling habit but haven’t succeeded yet. Let’s see how this goes. A lazy Sunday as it gets, just back from the gym and realised the right elbow injury from yesterday’s badminton was a real thing. Resting out from gym for a day and from badminton/tennis for the rest of…
Ahhh 🔁 iteration; continuous testing of an idea until one finds perfection in design. ironically perfection does not truly exists, but iterating on an idea can get design to a point that is almost perfect. i find the most relatable design does not strive to be perfect, yet it it gets so close that allows others to…
First post. Of many I hope. I'm here to support Louis. Because he came up with a great idea. Built it. Marketed it. See a problem, solve a problem. That is how mankind makes progress.
Tried weights to stretch my ears for the first time. They seem to work very well. I’m trying to get back to 38mm like I had a few years ago. I went from 32mm to 35mm with this first time using the two 32g weights. I think I’m going to stay at this size for awhile and let my ears get use to it before I try moving up…
This is not a post where I tell you that getting bored is good and all. But to see why actually am I getting bored! I just said that I've been working as an Intern for the past 9 months, and yet when my room mate is not around, it seems that I don't have anything to do apart from work. My room mate does not make a…
The ultimate sin on Wikipedia is original research. You know, cranks adding lengthy conspiracy diatribes to what was a perfectly reasonable article. Banning original research is a convenient way to shut these people down. Now all you have to do is say 'where's your source?' Unluckily for us, you can fall foul of this…
it's so easy to take our greatest strengths for granted simply because they come naturally to us. and conversely, to normalize behavior that simply conforms to our surroundings. without stopping to ask the hard questions - to quiet the constant noise begging us to react to it, to be fiercely autonomous, it's easy to…
Neil DeGrasse Tyson once made an argument underlining the difference between a political/courtroom debate and a scientific debate. And according to him, the crux of the difference lies in the possibility of an agreement between the two participants based on mutually agreed, objective, observable facts. That is, for…
turned on the water heater to shower and then was like "nah" smelled my armpit, and confirmed my "nah" i smell like nothing.
Yeah, you expect me to believe dinosaurs were mega-huge? And then animals just stopped being so big arbitrarily? Oh we-ow there's not as much oxygen or whatever - so T'Rex woul've been dog sized if it had allergies? Isn't it interesting that the dinosaurs just happen to get bigger the older the fossil is? Don't…
‘Indian Matchmaking’ and ‘A Suitable Girl’ have much in common: producer Smriti Mundhra, match-maker Sima Taparia, and an overwhelming display of complex but problematic routines and notions around arranged marriage. Yet, one is cringe (but binge-worthy), while the other is deeply unsettling. The difference in…
"Do you want to come build something?" It was an important question, something I had been thinking a lot about lately. You can't know the answer if you never ask the question. I had never asked it myself. -- I didn't think much about startups when I was younger. I had always focused on school, moving from one grade to…
ahhhhh i feel to create a more relatable design it helps to introduce imperfection. it provides the end user to continue the process of creation making the outcome more unique...
The magical feeling of New York City just before race day on Sunday is incredible. People from all over the world coming together for a spectacular challenge. Wonderful! nycmarathon2022
In my teens - I was a commi/socialist. Read Che. I thought everyone should share everything in equal parts. In my 20s, I want to conquer the world. Nothing can stop me. Hell yeah! Started tilting towards center. In my 30s, I'm part of capitalist system, and turned capitalist. Believes money can buy happiness & many…
i have heard a lot of conversations attempt to define an NFT era in art as it occurs. the thing is, art eras are rarely defined at their current time. but for the sake of conversation an NFT could be seen as post-post-modern art where a standard is starting to emerge in the format is it created and the exploration of…
To look back at this year, I need to go back further, starting with 2007. I have a tainted memory of a late night wrestling with my thoughts, I seem to remember thinking to myself that I was insulated from the worlds problems because I live in the UK. A few months later, I witnessed a global financial meltdown and the…
I got in to a discussion with a friend about some bill that was signed into law in Florida that, depending on your political orientation, either (a) made it illegal to talk about being gay in classrooms, insinuating that anyone who supported it is a homophobic bigot, or (b) was an attempt by concerned parents and…
if you start the day with a painkiller, you set yourself up for success i thought i'd preemptively dodge any period cramps today by starting off the morning with a beautiful little glowing blue pill and i am feeling just ok just normal so imagine how i'd feel without it! and i used to resist taking pain killers…
"Act the way you'd like to be and soon you'll be the way you act." -Leonard Cohen I can’t agree more. Journaling small gratitude brought more gratitude into my life. Writing about the small steps and wins brought more positives. Small gratitudes and positives became easier to identify. My journaling both became a…
There are two types of learning: structured and unstructured. The first is like reading a textbook from the start to the end. The second abandons all formal progression through learning material. There's one reason why those who follow an unstructured approach end up ahead. When you go through a formal course, you're…
There's been talk on Twitter lately about the massive funds of the Wikimedia Foundation. I had no idea, and I think others were surprised too. It makes sense, though. I was always surprised at the professionalism of their work compared to the homemade vibe of the volunteer communities that run the wikis. They use…
Today is my last day studying, and I can't seem to find any motivation at all. After a month of studying, doing 20 past exams, revising and revising, and feeling like there's always more to cover, today—on the most important day when I should be pushing through the last mile—I feel done, Im done (not done that I'm…
Never do the perfect job - you're not paid to do the perfect job. Do a good job. Put 80% of your time focusing on how to land a good job. 20% to do your development, research on yourself, your colleagues, your partners and your future growth.
I think I've found some sort of silver bullet. Not a magic solution to a problem, but an assumption that nullifies most questions I had. What questions? Questions about human behaviour. Behaviour can be predicted when you're observing a situation and you either have all the information that contributes to a decision,…
Person number 1 vs person number 2 Relationships - people text, fuck, catch feelings and suddenly understand that: you have choices in your life - person 1 heartbroken - person 2 Now can’t admit I’m person 2 Always being telic Trying to “get some goals” “achieve something in your life” “being in that relationship by…
realistic fiction for adults that are uplifting & humorous & exciting: does this exist?
Today, I went to the mall with my nephews and cousins. In the toy section, the kids' eyes widened with a spark of excitement. As I looked at the toys, I started to see things that were so cute but useless, and I found myself wanting them too. My mom bought my nephew a huge box of Pokémon cards. I thought, "You already…
hearts are complicated organs. when i wanted to become a surgeon, i knew i'd choose neurosurgery. there was something - something i haven't still defined - something the world hasn't yet uncovered - that makes a mind make a heart. complicated, isn't it? we look for answers where we know there are none. we wait when we…
Something remarkable had happened. I took that for granted, as so often happens inside a dream, having already accepted the events — whatever they’d been. The shape of society itself had changed, The Events having shaken a greater sense of our collective responsibilities into us. Well, most of us. One such…
“Jesus knew at once that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my clothes?’” Mark 5.30. The woman cured by Jesus could not remain anonymous. Nor can we, once we have touched the saving power of Christ’s blood, remain quiet. MORE: Whether it be shame, or fear, or selfishness,…
Journaling has many benefits. One benefit you may not hear others talk about as much is increased productivity. My morning journaling session prepares me for a productive day. I use these three strategies. 1. Set priorities. I write at least one sentence for each priority task. I simply write what I plan to do. I may…
The dusty bookshop tote, colours faded by the sun, filled with a day's worth of activity. In the safety of tranquility, we hide behind all kinds of screens. Screen to guard us from the sun's rays and screens to guard us from reality. We clutter the mind in a place built for peace. The senses heightened in every…
- tao lin + andy warhol + terence mckenna as Worshipped Rebel Gods - harnessing a type of energy - my fav podcast [i laughed on the bus] - people who give me the feeling of "mm i like that" when they talk about their lives - funneling the energies i like into my life honestly energy is a thing you can touch and see it…
It’s time to lock in. Lock in on your dreams. Lock in on your work. Lock in on your standards. Do the boring work and it will work. Leave nothing to chance. Create your own luck. Lock in.
(original: 2006 March 29) ... o.k., susan ... i'll play Four jobs you have had in your life: 1. smaller leather goods salesperson in dept. store 2. plastic lid putter-onner for canned food stuff 3. junior chemist (summer) 4. working for the voices in my head Four movies you would watch over and over: 1. shawashank…
We went to school together. We have known each other for twenty plus years. Given your unsocial behaviour, your family is surprised that you have maintained a friendship so old. The only other relationship older than ours is that with your family members. We have literally taken work from home opportunity to our…
I never fail to have something to be grateful for. How can this be? My life is ordinary. I have a good life, with a home, food, and health. My ordinary doesn't look like your ordinary. For all of us many days look almost identical. You can only write the same thing in your gratitude journal so many times, right? The…
A simple answer is - because I want to learn how to do things in and around a website. A no-code website of growcket will be a playground for me to experiment and practice a lot of things like: 1. SEO - How can I rank my website higher than existing ones. 2. Content - Practice of writing. 3. Insights - What type of…
A quote on an Oprah Winfrey show got me thinking about how it is important to have the good wines when we are having a bad day. The premise is that if one is having a good day, one does not need the good wine, but an excellent cabernet on a dull day will cheer one up. A glass of champagne will add a sparkle to a day…
2/n 1/n is published - finally - but it wasn't simple. I mean the actions were, but the actions didn't lead to a published post. Eventually I logged out and logged in again ... and voila! (Yes I changed the URL of my site - I wonder if that affected things?)
You’ll find I’m inclined to decline your kind line to wine and dine, as I pine to recline and unwind my mind.
Short one today. Got stuff somewhat ready for tomorrow. Invited some coworkers over for a hangout after work. First time inviting people over to my place. Was trying to print and post some photos that I took as wall decorations. Almost end of the week. One more thing: I think I may want to try and make this a photo…
You might be able to sum up the dharma with “comparison is the thief of joy”. Just expand the comparison to not be versus other people, but versus anything and everything. Your food fell on the floor, and it’s made you sad? Now you’re comparing having the candy versus not having the candy. Let go of it. You stubbed…
