Dinosaurs were big? I've got a *big* bridge to sell you...
Yeah, you expect me to believe dinosaurs were mega-huge? And then animals just stopped being so big arbitrarily? Oh we-ow there's not as much oxygen or whatever - so T'Rex woul've been dog sized if it had allergies?
Isn't it interesting that the dinosaurs just happen to get bigger the older the fossil is? Don't believe the propaganda from Big Dinosaur. It's my earnest, heartfelt, entirely fake belief that fossils get bigger over time - NOT that dinosaurs were just bigger.
Now, I'm not a paleontologist. I don't know how fossils work. My guess is something like the mud and soil around bones is petrified over time, while the bones are mineralised. This sounds right to me, so is probably half-understood high-school biology - the cave drawing on the wall of my brain. My guess is, the mineralisation part is not as singular as THEY want you to believe. It's probably more like growing salt crystals in a dish. Minerals beget minerals (is my assumption, not a stated fact) - and over time, the fossils get bigger.
I can already hear the Big D shills: But wouldn't that distort the bones somehow? Do you really think dinosaurs actually had those proportions? You think there was actually an animal with tree-sized legs, and branch sized arms?
Suppose I show you a fossilised set of bones, and another four times the size. Tthe first fossil is a thosand years old, the latter three million - is it really the most likely that the BIRD changes? And not the RECORD?
That's like saying people used to sing with a crackle because you listen to vinyl.
Again - fake, made up, bullshit belief.
