Summertime // Sensory Overload
The dusty bookshop tote, colours faded by the sun, filled with a day's worth of activity.
In the safety of tranquility, we hide behind all kinds of screens. Screen to guard us from the sun's rays and screens to guard us from reality.
We clutter the mind in a place built for peace.
The senses heightened in every natural way need no digital distraction.
The sizzling heat of sun on skin, and grind of sand between toes
The rippling swash of the waves, the sickly sweet scent of suncream, and the familiar saline taste on our lips
All while immersed in a world of gold and blue.
The mind dances at natures song.
And yet we plug in, log on, zone out, eyes down, minds transported to new worlds.
But, how about we switch off?
Log out.
Shut down.
Heads up.
And live in this world.
