Good wine on a bad day
A quote on an Oprah Winfrey show got me thinking about how it is important to have the good wines when we are having a bad day. The premise is that if one is having a good day, one does not need the good wine, but an excellent cabernet on a dull day will cheer one up. A glass of champagne will add a sparkle to a day that is getting ahead of itself and a crisp rose might transport one to the French Riviera.
This brings me to my favorite topic - food. For time immemorial, food has the ability to unite people. Over a dinner or grazing table, to satiate our taste buds or to simply exchange notes, catch up and share experiences. At a restaurant or at a home. The venue, theme is not as important as just showing up.
And then to proceed to open the champagne! The delicate bubbles, as they fill the glass, not only are they a pretty sight, but drinking a glass or two as one chats with a friend, put it simply, helps one relax.
For many of us in our 40s and 50s, peak adulting in itself is a full time job. Children, work, extended families. In the midst of all this, certain injuries that creep up on us. A hairline fracture while playing pickleball (while wearing a pair of new shoes), an ACL tear which happens while playing an aggressive game of tennis with a 20 year old. A pinched nerve around the spine for someone with an already weak back. An emergency trip to the cardiologist for an anxiety related elevated high blood pressure.
When a spate of these life events happen continuously, opening a bottle of good wine, sitting back and sipping it seems like a good idea!
