Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
One of the surprising facts I learns was that YouTube are now doing up to 2Mbps H.264 Video for 1080P content. And the quality is quite impressive for Internet Video. And the world doesn't seems to want to save bandwidth from Audio Codec, vast majority of it are using 256Kbps AAC / Opus rather than 128Kbps. As…
i'm serious. just let me know. remember myspace surveys? the best part about myspace surveys is that as you fill out your answers, you get to read answers from the person you copy&pasted from and it's so fun to learn about them... https://coffeeandcrows.com/2020/07/13/an-old-school-myspace-survey/ this person is so…
I don't really have much to write for today, so let me see: 1. Mehul's birthday party: I spent 15 minutes trying to get a unruly bunch of teenagers to play darts. It wasn't as annoying as i thought it would be, though. I pretty much jumped into auto-pilot mood of needing to take-charge 2. Pitch night by Build: I…
I'm currently at an interesting event in Italy as a filmmaker and photographer. The location is fantastic, the weather is perfect, yet I feel empty. There are the participants and the client's team. And then there’s me – neither part of one or the other. This would be fine if my work were the main focus, but it’s not.…
to build a resilient & flexible system, you need iteration. it’s inevitable. a system can only prove its value when exposed to multiple different contexts. if it fails to adapt to a new context, it’s not a great system yet. as you iterate on multiple contexts, the system will progressively adapt to cover more edge…
Being an introvert is not often a bad thing, especially in later stages in life. It becomes arduous to find people you can relate to and be comfortable around. It is either because everyone changes from being naive. Or it is because we just happen to interact with a lot more people to which we aren't habituated.…
After being in the world of business communication for a while, it seems that whenever someone takes a long time to respond, they apologize for it. They say that their personal life is busy, or had other priorities to take care of. The problem is that after seeing this over and over, it loses its effect. I would do…
15 months ago I left my home and moved to NYC, marking my entry into the most socially disconnected phase of my life. Faced with the formidable foe of newfound isolation, I wanted to hold on to those in Seattle who made me feel like a loved member of humanity. I felt optimistic that maintaining contact over the phone…
This blogging platform (the one you are looking at) was created by Louis Pereira, a student in Write of Passage which I was also taking. It is very simple and clean. I like that, so I decided to try it out. I am trying to see how having writing viewed by others changes it. How does having an audience (or even just the…
Congee served in a ceramic bowl, cubes of salmon still cooking slowly in a thickened broth of grain, stock and minced pork, each bite velvety on the tongue. Tangerine pollock roe smushed into a paste, generously seasoned with salt, pepper, lemon, egg yolks and a spoonful of Japanese mayonnaise. Expertly tossed through…
You’ve heard you should journal first thing in the morning. Get up early to spend some time with gratitude and bring clarity to the day to come. You’ve heard you should journal at night. Don’t go to bed without reflecting on your day and settling your mind. I advised both of those. You must journal both in the morning…
The world announces itself loudly. It never asks for permission. It arrives as friction, metal against rail, voices colliding, engines coughing smoke into the afternoon. People move with purpose or pretend to. Everyone is going somewhere. Everyone is late. Noise becomes the proof of existence. I stand inside it and…
“We are splinters and mosaics; not, as they used to hold, immaculate, monolithic, consistent wholes.” schreef Virginia Woolf in een van haar dagboeken.
At times not doing anything even though you have a lot on your plate and too much in your mind going on is actually relaxing. I have been in that phase for the last three days and i feel lighter a lot. Too many thoughts passed through the mind and they did not bother me much. Often we are told don't take life too…
Knowing. Thinking. Believing. In order to know something, we generally have personal experience with it. What I do most often is to think something is or is not. And to think is to trust in someone else’s personal experience or knowledge. So where does belief come in? Is belief even necessary? It often seems like…
Pari hey. Let’s be real. Are you feeling bad that Shivani is dating Nelson? And if so, why? I think yes, I am. And maybe it’s because I’m feeling like her liking nelson enough to date him is like her taking his side? This person, whom I carry so much grudge and dislike and disrespect for, my own best friend (Who I was…
Writing is something I enjoy doing. Not because it's easy. It's hard, so hard I always avoid it. But It gives me a sense of improvement or fulfillment. ever since I've read "How to take smart notes", I've been writing more and more, for myself. At one point, I wonder "why do I write?" To learn, to think better. So…
It’s not how smart the guy is But how passionate he is towards each thing, how interested and motivated based on his own desire That is why you do not simply let yourself tear and wear away given what life has thrown to you People has it even far more worse To operate based on pain rather than joy Is harder to…
In the taxi last night, conversation with the driver turned to identity - religious, national, cultural. He was a melange of Middle Eastern, Eastern European and Turkish. I'm Indian with connections to various parts of India. Neither of us was religious or believed in god, but we agreed that religion had value and…
When I started writing on Nicheless, 300 words on a daily basis did not seem an insurmountable task. I was proven wrong. An overseas work trip, between airports, the aircraft, hotels, office buildings, malls, high speed trains and cars, I was struggling to keep up with my writing. Finally after two days, I settled…
There's this man on death row in California, Ronald Stanford. He's there since he was 13. Lost his childhood, his youth, and still in the prison that took everything away from him. Somehow, he still takes care of his body, of his mental state, showers, cleans up, reads and express. On the walls of his 'room', you'd…
In LYT, a question posed was exploring whether folks lack interest in publishing. Part of the context was one's possible tendency to focus too much on expressing one's self to one's self. Here's my abridged/edited response. I don't know if there is a right or wrong approach about one's publishing process. I face a…
This quote is famously attributed to Dom Pérignon, a Monk from the Champagne region of France, who in the 17th century spent a significant part of his life perfecting the drink that we now know as Champagne or Sparkling Wine. On a recent flight, flying 35,000 feet above earth at 600 miles an hour and sipping…
I have always been anxious when presenting, I even get this increase in body temperature when I answer questions in big classes. But, for some reason I have been feeling comfortable when presenting in class, the groups are small and personalized, there is no pressure from teachers, because for them by doing the task…
You need someone you can tell everything. I share with my friends. They know a lot about me, but they don’t know everything. You can tell your journal everything. This essay and the next are examples of how I use my journals as a best friend. You may be surprised when your journal gives you an answer. I often clear my…
A trivial pursuit. Do you know why? Because it doesn't matter. Dates, names, elements, places, books, movies. They don't really matter. What matters are the ideas, trends, actions, systems that they create and perpetuate. It doesn't matter what the leader's name is, what matters is what they did and why. It doesn't…
We don't really know what is actually happening in others peoples lives, lying is so easy, specially when people are far away, you could just not say where or what you are doing and easily fool others. Today, I discovered I was lied to and it just makes me feel uneasy about the other person, kinda lost trust, even if…
A simple answer is - because I want to learn how to do things in and around a website. A no-code website of growcket will be a playground for me to experiment and practice a lot of things like: 1. SEO - How can I rank my website higher than existing ones. 2. Content - Practice of writing. 3. Insights - What type of…
It's late, it has been a long day, and I am tired. Opening the laptop to write my daily post as part of the writing challenge feels draining and I don't really want to do it. So why do I do this? In those moments of doubt I should remind myself of the bigger picture. Often, the tasks that seem most draining are the…
I know other journalers through my online writing cohort and social media connections. I don’t know other journalers among my family, friends, and acquaintances. When others find out I journal, they express admiration. In my visual journaling class, I was the only one who journaled. Even the instructor didn’t journal!…
Writing like a lawyer for over twenty five years had clogged my system with literary cholesterol. I was never a fan of legal jargon - you won't get a "hereinafter" out of me - but years of legal writing made Jaitly a dull scribe. Giving legal advice, or drafting a contract, requires words to have unambiguous meanings:…
if you start the day with a painkiller, you set yourself up for success i thought i'd preemptively dodge any period cramps today by starting off the morning with a beautiful little glowing blue pill and i am feeling just ok just normal so imagine how i'd feel without it! and i used to resist taking pain killers…
She's a good girl.
Today, I had a really nice Zen day. I'm in Crestone, CO visiting for a month. I enjoyed the mountain view and the local library, where I read a book about stillness and being present in your moment. Last night, I contacted our Airbnb host to ask about why my trash had not been picked up. The response kicked me out of…
This is my first post of nicheless, I think the idea for the website is great, and I am happy to be a relatively early adopter. What gets me excited about the platform is the late of likes, reposts etc, and just the ability to get one's thoughts on paper. I'm not sure I would consider myself a writer, but I surely…
Last month, I started learning how to make homemade ramen. The goal was simple, make something edible. Now I'm getting pretty good at making ramen. And my interest is starting to peter out. I'm not waking up thinking about where to source local chickens anymore. I'm no longer rifling through amazon for better fridge…
The goal: stay within 380 words. I liked a tweet I read yesterday: https://twitter.com/dremilyanhalt/status/1587111368288866311?s=20&t=P90hmJLnVlsM4qxtKkIQ Dr. Emily Anhalt asked men in therapy about their most powerful learning from therapy. I suppose therapy means lots of things, but I'll try one definition: you're…
Lately, I’ve been thinking: home is not a place, a country, or any physical location. Home is a feeling you get around people, people who always welcome you with a warm hug every time you see them and give you a tight hug every time you leave. While some people identify with their country or hometown, I identify with…
I do not want to be dependent on the arbitrariness of others. I do not want to do something just because another person has decided for me that I should do it. I want autonomy and freedom. I notice that I have developed a real allergy to authority in recent years.
I think the hardest thing I’ve had to do is to decide who to be as a creator. Helping others explore and develop their creativity felt much easier than developing my own. There is such joy in standing with another creative and helping them t o aim their creative arrows toward their desired target.…
This is day-2 of my 30 day atomic essay streak. Ironically, this simple act of keeping a count ties back to something more fundamental. I call it 'mindful repetition'. If you google it, high chances you'll land some esoteric definition of 'mindful repetition' - closer to meditation & learning. However, that's a very…
We often sign up for tasks without considering whether we'll be able to show up with full intention. We think about how fun or exciting it'll be to experience something. Soon enough, we begin to wonder - did we even think clearly? The sudden responsibility to be fully present is daunting. But we get baited by the rush…
