reflections from behind the lens
I'm currently at an interesting event in Italy as a filmmaker and photographer. The location is fantastic, the weather is perfect, yet I feel empty.
There are the participants and the client's team.
And then there’s me – neither part of one or the other.
This would be fine if my work were the main focus, but it’s not. People came for the event, not to be photographed or filmed. It’s a strange vibe for me. On one hand, I want to capture great shots to meet the client’s and my own expectations; on the other, I don’t feel that anyone else really cares about it. Additionally, I don’t want to be too intrusive as the atmosphere is quite intimate during many of the workshops.
People want the final product but don’t understand what it takes to get there.
Right now, I don’t feel good about it.
It’s probably a communication issue. I need to get better at expressing my needs and demands in this setting – all while maintaining a calm and fun vibe so people are happy to help.
I wanted to write about it to get more clarity and improve.
