What do I know
Knowing. Thinking. Believing.
In order to know something, we generally have personal experience with it.
What I do most often is to think something is or is not. And to think is to trust in someone else’s personal experience or knowledge.
So where does belief come in?
Is belief even necessary?
It often seems like belief only blurs the line between knowing and thinking. Or maybe belief is made possible only when we attach ourselves to knowing something. When the story of knowing something becomes more important than whether it is or is not.
Identity, value, and community form around beliefs.
Then we start to filter out contradictions.
Cementing a view of ourselves and the world around us.
But is belief necessary?
Does it bring about more peace and joy?
Does it bring people together?
Is it possible to live well, to be kind, and create meaning of our lives without being attached to beliefs?
To be comfortable in unknowing.
