I liked a tweet I read yesterday: https://twitter.com/dremilyanhalt/status/1587111368288866311?s=20&t=P90h_mJLnVlsM4q_xtKkIQ
Dr. Emily Anhalt asked men in therapy about their most powerful learning from therapy. I suppose therapy means lots of things, but I'll try one definition: you're talking to a professional outside of your personal network about whatever is on your mind.
I've accumulated a lot of learning as a guy in therapy. Wrapping them together is best put this way: I've learned that nearly everything I do or say has roots in something else in my life. A particularly anxious reaction might be tied to a night of drinks. An overwhelming sense of confidence might be tied to a need for a control, an underlying anxiety that festers and changes your personality.
I'd like to write more about therapy. But for now, my simple closing statement is this: everyone should go to therapy. Even for a few sessions. It is remarkable to unlock and expand how you understand your own behavior.
