I Prefer Being Alone
Being an introvert is not often a bad thing, especially in later stages in life. It becomes arduous to find people you can relate to and be comfortable around. It is either because everyone changes from being naive. Or it is because we just happen to interact with a lot more people to which we aren't habituated.
Either way, people get more complicated as times go on. Once a passion, ambition, and sometimes wealth seeps into the mix, even more so. Trying to be around others is taxing when you have your own beliefs.
Others often find it unnatural when they realise I prefer being by myself. It is not the kind of life appropriate for everyone, particularly if one likes having lots of people around them to distract them from the life they have been living otherwise. But it has worked for me in ways I cannot possibly explain.
- No longer am I reliant on others for my own emotions.
- No longer am I in constant need of reassurance that I can trust people.
- No longer do I need to have other incorrigible beings to function.
People who lower their wall to you, sometimes because you have stayed with them long enough, serve as an exception to this case. They are the only ones you can be around in this world without being disappointed.
Having complicated beings around you as your life gets more so is just going to make it challenging. This, of course, is an opinion, and it works differently for everyone due to their own needs and conscience.
The only thing you can confidently control is yourself. No one can take that power away from you. And thus, being by yourself will not disappoint.
