Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Don't believe every wisdom that you get blindly, do not follow into the dogma instead fuck around and find out, which means test out your own hypothesis. Don't give into the seduction of borrowed wisdom, learn to rigorously test out the biases as well as the wisdom that you are given as true. Do not accept anything at…
It's late, it has been a long day, and I am tired. Opening the laptop to write my daily post as part of the writing challenge feels draining and I don't really want to do it. So why do I do this? In those moments of doubt I should remind myself of the bigger picture. Often, the tasks that seem most draining are the…
H.266 VVC is technically better than AV1. In terms of Quality, Performance and Complexity. FVC is a working name for the successor of VVC. With a target of 50% reduction regardless of computing power. In all previous case they have encoding and decoding complexity target. So it seems FVC is trying to push the boundary…
There's a famous story of a group of blind men who wanted to know what an elephant was like. These men had heard a lot about this majestic creature, so they travelled together to the king's palace to visit an elephant. Since none of them could see, each man had to use his sense of touch to feel what an elephant was…
"Your only power in life is to inspire other people. And the only way to inspire them is to live the most authentic and genuine life to yourself possible." - Naval Got very inspired by this quote from Naval this morning and it made me think of a recent convo I had with ldf saying how I feel almost pressured to do a…
Casey Neistat moved back to NYC in September and started putting out YouTube videos again. His recent videos all center around the chaotic rawness of NYC. We see a place brimming of energy. It's buzzing. It's shaking. The people are all main characters. You watch the videos, and you can't help but fall in love with…
I have three weeks until the first day of school, and the teaching dreams have already started. I don't mean aspirations and hopes kind of dreams; I mean REM sleep dreams. These dreams follow a predictable, yet challenging, pattern. A disruptive and defiant student is acting out, and it's severe enough that it must be…
Journaling has many benefits. One benefit you may not hear others talk about as much is increased productivity. My morning journaling session prepares me for a productive day. I use these three strategies. 1. Set priorities. I write at least one sentence for each priority task. I simply write what I plan to do. I may…
On the whole, I'm pretty big on Science. But it's important to distinguish between the cult of science and the core scientific method. Whenever someone says "scientifically proven" I wince. It demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what science is. Science can only disprove stuff. It's just a method of…
Im normally used to have a routine that is very stable, not much going on, but this past 2 weeks have been very intense for me, from events, meeting people, moving and figuring out this this country I have been picking up very bad habits cause I have so many things I want and need to fit in my schedule. Now I realize…
"He was angry with Jeanie for not having encourage the Laird - He was angry with the Laird for requiring encouragement - and he was angry with himself for being angry with himself for being angry at all on the occasions." -Walter Scott, The Heart of Mid-Lothian Everyone has moments of extreme emotion. It's not healthy…
1. music -- sometimes music can be punishing ("public" music...the kind you can't shut off at will) but music is a blessing when i'm doing boat work. i've found that the only type of boat work i can really do and the kind that i sort of enjoy is the kind that requires merely the possession of my body, and that leaves…
I tell myself as I count down the minutes to 10:49am. In the middle of work, in the middle of a life I should be focusing on. "15 minutes of thought," I say - and I attempt to figure them out right here. I'm overwhelmed by own lies (of secretly working on a task I don't like doing, of pretending to work on things I…
Finally got around to this project after buying the cigar box at a thrift store a few months ago. All the rest of the parts I had around from other builds/mods. I’ve modded a few guitars now but I think I might be most proud of this one. It wasn’t a struggle the entire build, only took me 3 days in total, and best of…
Photography is hard, but working on this project has honestly really made it fun. Although it's taken me this long to finally have an image come out (if we can even call it that) I know I am going to enjoy this the more I shoot. Here is to more tests, fails, and successes.
Approach life fast as possible - applies the same how you approach SUDOKU... So here's the thing I want to tell to my 27 self There's nothing much better than being a player and acting in the game of life rather than being a side character! You want to be a main as much as possible. So act like one! One trait that…
Elas adoram. É bom sentir…
Our attitude acts as a powerful lens, transforming how we perceive and experience the world around us. The same task or situation can feel like a burden or an opportunity, a challenge or a chance for growth, all depending on the mindset we bring to it.
Last Sunday, I took a reverse glass painting class. I’m not a painter. Exploring creative outlets is on my to-do list in retirement. I might find a new hobby. I might make new friends. My new experience was positive. Not for the reason you think. Learning a new skill means making mistakes. Encouragement determines the…
From my experiments: The best sleep schedule for humans is polyphasic in the summer (±5h at night, 90 min during the day) and monophasic during the winter (8-10h sleep at night; no nap during the day). It’s best to wake up with the onset of the morning dawn (slightly before sunrise). It is natural for humans to wake…
Most schools, at least the kind I went to too, are pointless and do more harm than good. People spend about 15 years of their life in schools. During this period, I feel they loose creativity and curiosity. They are taught to compete with peers and learn that failing is a bad thing. They are taught things which are…
What are you doing with your time, that makes you feel like it's not being wasted?
Walking through the English Garden, eating falafel at Königsplatz, and riding my bike through Munich at sunset, the beauty of the city in summer struck me once again. The warm glow on the streets and the vibrant life around every corner reaffirm why I love this city so much. Feels good to be back.
Good Evening. It is 0:24 AM where I am right now. It is nice to write words again. Tt feels good to do something that's not participating in the negativity and cynicism and general heat of 21st century mainstream media. Here's to a new sincerity, to humanity, to thoughtfulness, and the generosity that's only possible…
i'm really glad that my friend is a big lana del rey fan; i almost feel like that's his defining personality trait: love for lana del rey; and he tells me things about her and he sent me an article about her and i keep thinking about it... i'm eating haribo happy cola because lana's song title "cola" gave me a sudden…
Legacy is an idea that has recently been top of mind. Coupled with my retaking three PKM-related courses, I have been thinking about how and whether one's digital and physical "assets" (note to self: there are likely more descriptive and representative words) related to knowledge management provides for one's legacy.…
i've been thinking endlessly about sex lately either my biological clock is ticking and i'm ovulating and the body is desperate or it's because of the things i've been writing, creatively or i'm writing those things because the clock is ticking i'm writing the story i can't get out of my head the more i write it the…
I was in Italy for a week and just got back to Cambridge, UK. Arriving at the train station and driving through the city to my apartment in an Uber was a nice experience. A city I visited for the first time only three months ago, which felt so foreign back then, now feels so familiar. I recognize the routes, can…
Twitter is terrible, as are all other algorithmic feed social networks. I want the fun of early twitter and livejournal back.
when i say "addiction" i mean that it is becoming an actual problem i've been indulging in books, thinking, "this is never going to be a problem -- i have never heard of anyone with a book-addiction before scoff" but i've arrived at it and it is terrifying i'm becoming a habitual book reader and i'm not even asking…
Yesterday night, I left home to take a walk. I spent time looking up at clouds. I arrived on the school field, late at night, and laid down on the cold grass, right in the exact center of the field. It was around 7:30 p.m. - the sky was a mix of blue, pink, and orange. The most perfect time of the day to take some…
I've lived my life on high ambition. In school it was about getting the highest marks, or winning the competitions I enrolled in. Slowly it turned to having a great career, becoming the best person I could be etc. But recently, I've been disillusioned by this approach. Don't get me wrong. Greatness is... great. It's…

You need to keep a habit of doing everything small correct and nicely; Else you’ll just reward yourself for being as you should: like being on time, went to the gym, don’t keep yourself too harsh but don’t keep yourself too loose & without control and discipline. “The most free people are the ones who control…
I am realizing that storytelling is a soft skill that I should have learnt early in my career. Storytelling is one craft that gives a positive spin to the most useless work. It can also turn the most beautiful work into a hot garbage.
Yes, I have a sweet tooth. I love me some sweets: pastries, candy, cakes, cookies… you name it, I love it. But there has been no better sweetener in life than community. Combining community with all aspects of my life has provided that extra 🤌 But how? I’m currently learning how to DJ right now, and sure, learning…
There is a negotiation which I have with myself every time I am presented with an opportunity to get drunk. The decision to get drunk is despite all good sense - it is not a problem of knowledge or understanding. What tilts the balance in favor of the bottle is an innate desire to experience a high like never before -…
ahh today an image created sparked a memory of an architectural concept about modernity (Weak and Diffuse modernity by Andrea Branzi). it theorized an idea for urban planning by taking 'weak' forms such as incomplete design and elasticity, then applied them to how a city can be formed. an ambitious though would be to…
Can we all just agree to spell the word "thru?" Imagine the environmental impact of saving all those electrons and ink not having to write "through." Probably won't happen, tho.
The last few months have been brutal for businesses. Layoff announcements, the world over, are seeing all labor go from being valuable to dispensable in no time. Isn't it a bit baffling that businesses don't pause celebrity-led campaigns while they make all the "tough calls?" A few of the big ed-tech companies in…
i had to name you. one year later, i finally call you what you were: an abuser. does it ever hurt, knowing that you drove a knife through me without ever stabbing me? does it ever haunt you, how i kept begging for you to stop but you were drunk on ego? do you ever get scared of the way it will all come back to you? it…
After I revisited Richard Siken's wonderful poem 'Birds hover the trampled field', I wrote a lot in my Google docs. I didn't 'get it' the first time I read it, which must be about three or four years ago by now, but I didn't have to get it. I let the meaning of it develop in my mind unconsciously without trying to…
