Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Very happy with the typo pun in the heading. Been trying to onboard close friends to the first social protocol and also been tinkering with figma make to have a mini app by next month. I've been trying to pitch the premise and thesis to people. Some jump in to product feedback mode without even trying the app and some…
For a long time now I have had an idea in my mind that seemed almost impossible. Poetic in execution and artistic value, one where an echo may only speak the last thing it hears. It's a satisfying feeling to find the right person, now making the idea more possible. The future looks bright for this idea to flourish...
When I'm with you, I feel like I'm a thousand feet tall. When I think I've lost you, I feel like I'm dying. I live for all the little moments I spend with you, your smile, your voice, the little curve of your nose and the silly way you make the worst things funny. You are never far from my thoughts. I could write a…
I will miss her. She listened to me. She made me feel intelligent. Slowly she grew on me. I loved her drive and intelligence. She was colorful. She shone in the crowd. I fell in love slowly, then all at once. But she broke my heart, she ghosted and she left. I thought we could build a lot of things today. I wanted her…
Rarely as bad as one might think. Odd dream overnight: only frag I remember is opening up a box, and seeing 2 x insulated car coffee mugs, upside down & protected by styrofoam dividers. Big work project begun. Leery @ first, but once I started, stuff started coming together. Fair bit of work left to do, but initial…
na tentativa de RESOLVER (coisa que amo e sou viciada em) os milhares de pensamentos que me rondam todo dia estou aqui. já tentei 130 mídias papel post it páginas matinais, nada me parece muito sincero, sempre me edito e tento deixar mais polido do que é na mente. sendo um pouco cria da internet vai que aqui me sinto…
i hate how much i loved your laugh. i hate how lonely all of this growth feels. i hate that you never celebrated my hard work. i hate that i tried. i hate that i loved your car. i hate that i loved every bit of that part of you that made me hate myself. i hate that i stayed. i hate that i waited while your mouth…
Ramesh was sick of it. Sick of a mediocre life. Sick of being an average employee, of having a middling personality. But hope is a thing of feathers... or something... he never particularly enjoyed poetry. Why couldnt they just write what they meant instead ? He figured that his problems emerged from his drifting…
Today is my last day at work. Over the past 2 years, I realised for you to excel at anything, you need to give it hard work and time. All of us face the dilemma of making a decision for the future, but have very low threshold of patience. No one in this world became a star overnight. This is hard to digest but is the…
One day, I picked up my grandson from school and had a conversation with him about his day. I asked if he enjoyed math and English. Then I asked whether he was good at handwriting and told him that mine was poor unless I took my time with it. My grandson's response to the handwriting question floored me a little. He…
I have been thinking about creativity lately. More precisely I have been thinking about how I used to be a lot more creative than I am right now. We have all heard famous quotes about “the system” killing creativity as we grow up. I recently went down this rabbit hole to explore what exactly happens, here is what I…
Often, I am exasperated by the number of people asking for recommendations on Twitter. The recommendations for skin care, wearable devices, or poll questions asking this or that get a free pass. Those aren't as annoying or unnecessary. But anything to do with books to read, music to listen to, shows to watch, and…
Recently, the Indian Supreme Court deferred the decision on mandating a policy for menstrual leaves for women to the Central Government. This raises a critical question: At the current stage of India's growth journey, what's more important? 1. Bringing more women into the workforce? 2. Ensuring the best workplace…
1. What's something that puts a smile on your face instantly? 2. Who's that someone you look forward to sharing the good news as soon as you receive it? 3. If money and responsibilities are taken out of the equation, would you still live in the same city? 4. What's your favourite childhood memory? 5. Do you feel…
Good intentions. Plans and goals. Expectations. Reality. The struggle for me is accepting the intentions I have as good enough. I aim to be a good person, to be kind, to remain open, to be healthy and active. But so often, intention is met with opposition. Whether it’s internal or external, what I wish to do gets…
After 8 years living with me, my rabbit died this morning. He was not eating properly for days. I gave him his medicines right after I wake up, worried about his health, but he couldn't even keep himself standing. So I tried to force feed him with a seringue. After the first shot of the Critical Care, the mix of herbs…
I love travelling by the Metro. I know Bangalore's Metro isn't as tentacled as Delhi's or as old as the tube (of London) - but by god, I adore the Metro. And this isn't even due to its ridiculous affordability. Stepping inside, you can almost taste the bustle of people hopping from home to work. When i see men and…
a new platform shows up on HN, so I'm here, just in case I miss out. I'm also on urbit, just in case I miss out. I'm also on urbit because I am a pseudocoder, but I like fp and weirdness. My real field is [humanities], and after five years I'm only beginning to come to terms with liking it, and being able to undertake…
Daniel Verdad ©
write what? well, just write b/c writing is oft right thoughts can be fleeting but, wherever you left off, writing can pick you right up, right where you left off
Now in the early years of my fourth decade as an adult, am trying to determine what will end up being my go to cocktail in this decade. Wine has and will always remain my trusted and loyal companion at home. Beer will be that calm, peaceful and silent friend walking by my side. But a cocktail will take on a…
For some reason, I have been feeling like I want to do higher studies. My motivations for doing that are 3 fold: 1. I really enjoy student life and want to experience it again 2. I want to stay abroad for a couple of years to travel and experience life 3. I enjoy studying However, I need to find the right program for…
Every time I move - be it from my study abroad in Cambridge, back to my home in Heidelberg, to my student dorm in Munich - I go through a period of adjustment. It always takes a few days to acclimate to the surroundings. The transition often feels sad when it's time to leave (just like now, standing at the Heidelberg…
looks so much like my cousin that i'm not allowed to have a crush on him but old keanu reeves...
The word 'green' or 'sustainable' has no clear definition in most contexts let alone in the construction industry. Outside of complex certification criteria set by bodies such as LEED internationally or the Green Building Council in India, there is no shared understanding of what makes a building green. I wanted to…
These are the first words I've written in many months. I've been thinking about why this is the case, and part of it might have to do with fear. I'm afraid of not being able to do it well. But there's something more there. I think I'm afraid because I believe I might have some type of cognitive decline. That was…
Recently I was wondering about how the world has become bigger and smaller for me at the same time... And probably not just for me but for everyone in a sense... I went back home... where i used to be a small kid 20 years ago... I saw kids playing in the common area... i remembered playing cricket there and always…
This will likely happen many times over. I'm not necessarily building towards something, which makes this pseudo-habit hard to complete. Which brings up an interesting thought for me: am I conditioned to do things if and only if it leads or builds towards something? I definitely have this mindset these days. While not…
It is difficult to think where you’ll be at any point in the future. Things don’t always go to plan. So, what is the point of setting goals? On our default path (ie. 9 to 5 job - thanks Paul Millerd) we are asked to make targets or objectives relative to what we know today. What we think we’ll want to tomorrow. But we…
She's a good girl.
My first post here. Exploring So far so good. I <3 nicheless's clean interface 0 bloat.
Geralmente eu escrevo…
First day of my break. I quit my wonderful job in Fin-Tech a few months back and have finally transitioned out of all my responsibilities. I woke up this morning with a smile on my face. So grateful that I can afford this, that I have savings enough to not be anxious about this break. Despite that, I do get a little…
In the immediate aftermath of the 2020 US elections, Ed Pilkington of The Guardian suggested that US democracy was failing in five key areas: voter suppression, the structure of the Senate, redistricting, the appointment of judges and of course, the electoral college. There's another structural element that…
Lately, I have been reflecting on the often sinful manifestations of our discontent. In particular, when we idealize and glorify "the good old days". Ecclesiastes 7:10 instructs us: Do not say, "Why is it that the former days were better than these?" For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this. In the face of…
creativity is all about knowing the rules and thoughtfully breaking them. in order to think outside the box, you need to understand the box. it's not about fully living outside the box either. use the box as a central hub you can build spokes out from. for example: everything everywhere all at once has been revered as…
I have always felt a lingering conflict about why people who take care of themselves get deadly diseases. Isn't it better to not care about our health, if anyway we're gonna get those XYZ diseases? Why unnecessarily cut down on sugar? Why count calories for every meal intake? Take an example: Person X is a fitness…
My son eyes aren't teaming properly. They create blurry images. To compensate his brain shuts off his weak eye and overloads his dominant eye. This knock-on effects are reading fatigue, inability to stay focused, etc. We may have scratched this up to ADHD and sought medication. Thankfully, my wife kept pulling the…
I think it’s time to pick this thing back up and micro-journal daily. The goal. To create a writing habit that sticks.
7: Wake up, Shower etc. 8: Meditate, Journal 9: Read 10: Write 11: Exercise 12: Work 4: Meet a friend 6: Dinner 7: Hobby 9: Go for a Walk, Call a friend/family 10: Clean House, Shower, Plan the next day 11: Bed Most of my days don't look like this. But this is what an ideal would look like for me. For work, I'm still…
hospitals are scary - their cream tinted walls that seem to stretch out infinitely, the clutter of people walking and what seems to be the most terrifying is the occasional stretchers filled with sick people that pass by. you see their faces, their eroded smiles and the only a husk of the person they used to be -…
So, I learned a few things over the weekend. Can anyone from a so-called third-world country like Indonesia guess the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment in New York City? It’s $4,778 per month or roughly IDR 79 million. Holy. Freaking. Airball. For that price, we could probably rent a room in Istana Bogor and…
They say that not a single person on the planet can make something as simple as a pencil. The creation of a pencil - from the lead to the wood - is the culmination of a grand orchestra of people working together. Very few of them were were actively trying to make a pencil, but it's the collective effort that…
(original: 2006 October 18) a quick acknowledgment of WHY i go to my h.s. reunion - louis = devil (as a term of endearment, of course) - i made a deal with louis at the 1st reunion (the 5 yr) - hence, i made a deal with the devil i do not back out on deals (most of the time) some of my memories from the 5 year reunion…
last night i slept worse than i have in months. i mean i’ve been sleeping like shit since we landed on this rock but last night the pain just took over me. the night before, i snuck out on my own to see if I could figure out what the orb was composed of. i thought, if i could just get close enough to chip off a shard…
A professional is someone who is paid to perform a task. A dentist is paid to care for teeth. A teacher is paid to impart an education. There are clearly defined and agreed upon definitions for professions; organizations are established to accredit individuals and revoke those credentials when ethical norms are…
