Crafting Pencils and Children
They say that not a single person on the planet can make something as simple as a pencil. The creation of a pencil - from the lead to the wood - is the culmination of a grand orchestra of people working together. Very few of them were were actively trying to make a pencil, but it's the collective effort that eventually created it. And the pencil does it's job well and has been doing so for generations now.
If we need so many people, an entire society, to create a something as simple as a pencil, what about something as complex as a good human being? Actually creating a human in flesh is the easier part, but raising them to be good, that's beyond a single parent or family. Society as a whole plays is the grand orchestra that raises the child. We do not actively think about it, but we are playing some role in it nonetheless.
So next time you're doing something and if there are children around, or even if they're aren't, take a pause to think how that impacts a growing child. They are watching and soaking in things like a sponge. The generation of tomorrow is being crafted by all of us right now - irrespective if they are children of our own.
