Big Deal... Small Deal...
Recently I was wondering about how the world has become bigger and smaller for me at the same time... And probably not just for me but for everyone in a sense...
I went back home... where i used to be a small kid 20 years ago... I saw kids playing in the common area... i remembered playing cricket there and always finding it a gargantuan task to hit a six... It all seemed so big. The world seemed huge... Distances seemed daunting.. Journeys seemed long and tiring...
As I've grown, big deals have become small, minuscule deals. We always want to go back and tell our younger selves, right? How stupid we were, how the things we thought were big deals back then, amount to absolutely nothing in the real world? How worrying about scope and scale did absolutely nothing to make things better?
But then why do I feel like we were still living large when we were kids? Why do I feel now, that I was scared of things back then... when in reality I was just exercising my imagination.
My big deal when I was a kid, was to somehow hit the ball out of the common area. Now it's a small deal.
But the happiness I felt when I did clear the common area, I don't think that... that feeling.. was a small deal. Not back then. And especially not now.
Maybe the world is expanding... because we are getting distant from one and all.
Maybe the world would be better... if it was all contained in that small, childhood common playing area.
Definitely would mean a whole lot now... definitely would be a big deal.
