Gathering thoughts…
A world of little thoughts.
Everything is slow - even the money coming in. You should have done something much more; much faster. The money is too slow to come in… The real adulting comes when you think you have enough money to buy something but actually you don’t - you stop and figure out shit you bought is actually still kinda expensive.
i like the typesetting here. good design. lower case is the new hot apparently.
Another favorite Hebrewism, which translates literally to "living in a movie". It is used to indicate to one's interlocutor that he is so bound up in his own narrative that he has lost contact with external reality. It's a refreshing refrain from the inanity of the counter-claim, that reality is in fact socially…
What if we stuff Samosa with Kachori stuffing and vice versa. Which one would you call Samosa now? Is Samosa a Samosa because of its shape or how Intel says 'Look Inside'. Similarly, what makes us humans? Faltu baatein apart, Could someone please experiment with stuffing kachori with samosa stuffing and blah blah and…
The title of the post is a misnomer-I have not written much except when compelled to on a few occasions. In that sense, a more appropriate title would have been "why I'm starting to write and hope to continue writing". However, the urge to plagiarize Orwell and the fear of turning readers away at the outset combined…
Every Sunday my family used to go to church, have breakfast outside, come home and mom used to make chicken biryani, which used to taste delicious. After that meal, my brother and I would pour ourselves a glass of cold drink(Thumbs up, mostly. If you don't like thumbs up, we are not friends.) and enjoy while watching…
When people talk about migrants’ rights, they're not typically talking about people like me, nor should they be. I'm extraordinarily lucky in life. But it seems the sorts of surmountable, administrative issues I face stack up into a major sense of otherness, an elseness, wherever one goes. People like to believe that…
At a bare minimum, they provide a means for the redistribution of wealth, outside of that, they seem to provide no economic value. They can be used as a tool to better your technical analysis skills as well, and may result in great profits for the individual, at someone else's cost. This can be justified using 2…
Writing like a lawyer for over twenty five years had clogged my system with literary cholesterol. I was never a fan of legal jargon - you won't get a "hereinafter" out of me - but years of legal writing made Jaitly a dull scribe. Giving legal advice, or drafting a contract, requires words to have unambiguous meanings:…
Today I went to pick up my parents from the airport. First, the parking ticket didn’t go through, and the car behind me started honking. My dad went and shouted at them. Then, I took the wrong road, and we ended up in a bad area of the city. My dad was furious. Every word that came out of his mouth was loud,…
i have had quite an interest in exploring what it means to build and inhabit more “homey” and inviting digital spaces. oftentimes i've had hangups about the polished and performative pressures that i experience on social media apps. feeling the need to tweet or post the perfect thing to represent myself. very often,…
I always carry pieces of the people I’ve lost with me. Lovers, friends and even some strangers. They reside in me. I have never been great at showing emotion or telling people how much they mean to me. But I miss them dearly. Each and everyone who added to my life. Even those from what feels like ages ago. It’s not…
That’s sort of the goal that you wished to attain That you didn’t have Saw on Bumble the other day “What’s the best thing you did for your mental health: living in the present” • so you sort of just be attracted to yourself, upgrade yourself in so many ways And you’ll eventually attract quality others to you - you…
The other night I gave my wife a formal amends for some wrongs that I had done. And now that I word it this way I forgot the most difficult and important three words: I. Was. Wrong. I admitted to and asked forgiveness for being judgmental, being a score-keeper, being unappreciative around the house. Lastly, I asked…
i chose this topic because this was the recent one i came across. I really do have a big question as to why the dresses made in the met gala are so not normal and not wearable by the normal people like you and me. If something should be encouraged it should have a meaning behind it i can't see what good does it…
I like to set some life goals for me, my husband, our little family. I set long term goals; I set short term goals. Very short ones, even. Like, what is our checklist on a random Saturday? Our goals last Saturday were doing laundry, taking Alia on a swim, and enjoying some hotpot for dinner. And we were right on…
Did I mention this anon stream has been going on for 4 months? When I found it through the 'Random' feature, I pinned it right before it swapped to the next random streamer. And I've been returning to it every night to check for updates. Some posts in the stream have words in Spanish and others in Japanese. I do not…
Louis Pereira's perceptive post on not trusting intuition reminded me of something. (https://nicheless.blog/post/disregarding-intuition) A dear friend once told me that when someone close - friend, family, colleague - says to him: "read that book, its just your type of writing," or "think about taking up tango…
TL;DR=throw and raise are fuck ugly anti-patterns. Golang got it right. In typescript, just use type unions with you return type and a custom error type. Yesterday, my code hit an exception, and I had no idea why. When I went to look at what the cause could be, my eyes started welling up. Not out of pride, but out of…
There are times when I look at contact list in my phone and feel like talking to a couple of them without any agenda. But I am afraid today to do so. I could do it easily in my younger days when the only purpose of phone was calling; SMS and listening to music were additional features. I did it for years and it helped…
Writing a weekly newsletter is challenging and energizing. But two? That's a different animal. As i continue this 100-day project -- writing content, art, formatting, frequency, whether or not to offer paid subscriptions and etc -- it suddenly occurs to me i still have to write content for my weekly,…
I've been following the progress of a cyclist, as he attempts to ride over 2211 miles (3559km) in seven days. It's all in an effort to break a world record for the longest distance cycled in 7 days. He's a local chap and I follow him, Leigh Timmis is his name, mostly because I designed his website. I also built the…
I try to live my life without regret. I try to live in the present, neither the past nor the future. It isn't easy though. I have bad days all the time, horrible, miserable days. At times I just want to give up and many times I do. In these moments, I find it hard to live in the present and yearn for a better tomorrow…
Yesterday after being in Europe for 6 months, I experienced a truly short winter day. Which means darkness by 5 PM. It was a strange feeling for someone like me. In India day lengths don't vary so much throughout the seasons. I guess I will get used to it soon.
one thing i’ve been thinking about a lot is what i’ve thought of as “what-the-fuck art” that is, those artworks that are so weird and so confusing that you can’t help but go “what the fuck, why is this… like this? what series of decisions and beliefs led the artist to think these make sense together?” — i suppose any…
Why stressing into the things when it’s too late to control The first mistake that people make is they try to avoid mistake It’s okay to be making mistake About systematic You remember the times you woke up for school, do the homeworks and be a goodboy That’s training yourself to be adulting It’s nothing “nerd” about…
There are many reasons to want a journaling habit. What’s your reason? A specific reason to journal is not required. Like any daily habit, having a why will keep you motivated. A quick internet search will yield a list of the benefits and research behind journaling. Your why may or may not be listed among the…
A little add-on to yesterdays essay on birthdays. I've spent the evening answering birthday messages, and while some of them were generic from random people, quite some were also very personal, from people I'm not that much in contact with but that I care about and enjoy spending time and interacting with. Birthdays,…
What distinguishes a democracy from mob rule? A couple of things, but chief among them is the legal protection of individual rights. You can't hang all the redheads just because the majority wills it. Redheads have as much of a right to life as their brown-haired fellow citizens - not more, not less. The cracks start…
This will likely happen many times over. I'm not necessarily building towards something, which makes this pseudo-habit hard to complete. Which brings up an interesting thought for me: am I conditioned to do things if and only if it leads or builds towards something? I definitely have this mindset these days. While not…
What enters your mind when you hear ‘the perfect storm’? Negative, unpredictable factors coming together to cause a catastrophe? My friend, Andy Sporring, recently wrote an essay about how a “perfect storm” of events can have negative or positive effects. After reading his essay, I immediately thought of one of my…
Teachers always wrote - "Can do better with more effort" on my report card. I was smart but not smart enough to match the truly brilliant ones. I was hard working but could not match the real work horses. The truly elite I observed were the ones who were both work horses and naturally gifted. I worked when I felt it…
I expect that someone in my family will be on Mars in the next 10 generations. After all, I'm part of a tribe that travels. My ancestors were constantly on the road, exploring opportunities for their next generation and the ones that come after. It's baked into my genes. But it presents a conundrum. What mindset,…
Two young fish were swimming along. An older fish swimming the other way nods at them and says, “How’s the water?” The two young fish swim on for a bit, then one of them says, “What the hell is water?”[1] According to Alan Kay, thanks to the above exchange, the IQ of each of the two younger fishes increased by 80…
Doesn't it feel good to check off a task, meet a goal, or get to your destination? That feeling is equal for small or large steps. For your new journaling habit, you need to start small. A small start means it's doable, less intimidating. It takes less time and fits into your schedule. You still see results. When…
There's few things I like more than a late night. There's few things I enjoy more than time with friends. There's few things I want more than to be someone. There's few things I need more than to stay healthy. There's few things I feel more than a need for money. There's few things I miss more than an adventure.…
Keeping a gratitude journal changed me from a non-believer to a believer. Gratitude became a habit - an essential part of my morning routine. I was always optimistic, but I started feeling happier. I developed a mindset of gratitude. Gratitude made me look for the good in my life. Looking for good led me to…
We must spend and manage these well in order to achieve our best experience of life. Time is the toughest as once we spend it we cannot get it back, so we must cautious in how we spend it. This is a difficult thing to do though, as we human beings love love. We love being loved and we love showing love, and one of the…
reflect & manifest reverb23 in january adapts the reverb10 event shared about in this post - https://nicheless.blog/post/before-%7C-reverb-in-december-20 "... online initiative to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next ... an opportunity to reflect on what's happened, and to send out reverberations for the year…
4 days before I was gonna move into my dorm I got the news that I'll be having to move 8 days later from what I expected, my first reaction was frustration. Everything was already planned, already in order and now I had to deal with it. I guess I'm very lucky that I don't have economical problems and I can just book a…
Retirei-me daqui porque as coisas não andaram fáceis emocionalmente.
After 8 years living with me, my rabbit died this morning. He was not eating properly for days. I gave him his medicines right after I wake up, worried about his health, but he couldn't even keep himself standing. So I tried to force feed him with a seringue. After the first shot of the Critical Care, the mix of herbs…
I've spent so much time in one mode of living (ie the aspirant mode) that something else feels foreign and alien, something abnormal and even wrong. I crave the familiarity, the structure, the discipline of the routine. I crave the sense of purpose it provides. Yet I must also begin to understand that living in just…
We like to think of ourselves as rational decision-makers who are persuaded to accept arguments and ideas on the basis of logical merit. This is laughably divergent from how things really work. The idea itself that humans are rational decision-makers has no basis in empirical observation; it is just some wishful…
