digital gardens
i have had quite an interest in exploring what it means to build and inhabit more “homey” and inviting digital spaces. oftentimes i've had hangups about the polished and performative pressures that i experience on social media apps. feeling the need to tweet or post the perfect thing to represent myself. very often, sometime after i would post something on any of these accounts, i would delete or archive the post as i felt it didn’t really represent me. i guess a significant part of this is the fact that these platforms are seen as places where people post the best parts of themselves. but when so much of me is changing so rapidly, what does that even mean? while i could display some of the many thoughts that run through my head at any given moment, they never have felt finished or polished enough to convey in whatever-something characters, especially if this snippet of my mind was possibly crafting a digital version of myself that felt inauthentic.
actually, that may be it, i fear inauthenticity and it's something that feels unavoidable when in digital spaces sometimes as so many of us are simply performing.
to combat this, ive been very interested in the idea of a digital garden. a space that is my own quiet corner of the internet. where people may voyer if they so choose but i would never know. something that keeps up with the quick pace at which i gain new perspectives and opinions without the pressure of appearing polished all the time.
